We really liked this place! It's not your usual 'fancy high-end' place... instead it's charming, comfortable, and has great amenities: the restaurant was VERY nice (heaters were awesome on a chilly Feb night) ... the free bikes were terrific and fun .. the location is awesome. Rooms were recently renovated and very clean/comfortable/nice. Vibe is "casual beach sophistication" ... perfect!

Gym is a complete and utter joke. Huge negative. Pool area could be nice but not well laid out or managed Tiny waters provided, for the cost of the rooms its a joke. I see multiple charges with no explanations on my credit card bill now. those charges on not well detailed on the bill View from the room is a big positive, bed was comfortable. I will not consider staying there again.

The property itself is nice BUT I don’t it is not a good place to stay again. $45/night valet, $40 “convenience fee”, and the pool area is only open until dusk?? You leave with the impression that it is a scam

Great location! Right on the water with several restaurants within walking distance. The only downside is that you’re forced to pay $45 per night for the valet to park your car a few feet away on the surface lot. Highly recommend this hotel, especially for the price.

Nice! Wish I could stay longer and enjoy the tub on the balcony. Pool is intimate but warm. Works for kids and adults. Nice to have a bar/restaurant on the property.

Excellent location with large well appointed room. Think Vegas style on the water. Excellent service from staff. Unfortunately many added fees (approximately $100 for mandatory valet parking and amenity fee). Unfortunately the gym does not meet minimum standards. The roof top pool was nice with amazing views although the loungers are showing their age. The daily happy hour is a great value with tasty options. The amenity fee based breakfast was of average quality and not worth $39.00 or even half the price. Overall I have mixed emotions due to cost versus value.

I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at Shade Hotel. My room was so spacious and well appointed! I loved the tub out on my private balcony! The industrial type steamer was fabulous at getting a long formal dress ready to wear for a wedding. The robe was so comfy, as was the bed. Great room to relax and enjoy the view of the marina. Really appreciated the "living room" area with the couch. Nice touches like heavy shower doors, good hardware on the drawers... The ONLY thing that was not 5-star was the breakfast - dried out eggs, greasy sausage... nothing special there. Better than nothing, but you do pay for it dearly in the "amenity charge" which is another $34+ ! For that I would expect better quality breakfast. The oatmeal was good. We did like the rooftop pool and the food we ordered there was delicious! The shisito peppers had a tasty citrusy crunchy salt/spice on them, and the burata pear with arugula, ariels, on a good bread was yummy.

We enjoyed the proximity of this property to both Redondo Beach and Hermosa Beach. Both are definitely within comfortable walking distance. The breakfast buffet each morning was a very convenient start to the day as well. However, we were not pleased with the restaurant on Friday night. After we were seated, we were left without a single waiter or staff looking our way. Even the supervisor sitting at the bar height table at the entrance did not notice that no one came to help us. The rooftop pool area also requires staffing. No one is around which allows children to simply use the already small pool as a play area. There were toys and food floating in the pool as well as sand or dirt collecting in the bottom at the corners. All in all, not a inviting area at all.

Unfortunately, above the shower in the bathroom, there appeared to be some type of mold. Additionally, when we initially walked into the room, there was an odor that we believe came from mold. Other than that, the stay was amazing.

No hot water for over an hour after arrival, had to call maintenance to be fixed. Very large carpet stains all over room, and leafy greens still on carpet near bed from prior guests. Ac shut off and wasn’t fixed until morning time…myself, my 7 month pregnant wife, and 11month old were extremely hot for our get “get away” from the desert heat. Also no room gift as paid for and called 7 days, and again 3 days before my visit to ensure would be in order to surprise my wife for her birthday…not the experience I was expecting to have when paying over $800 for 1 night stay.

Hits: Location—easy walk to The Strand, Hermosa Beach and Redondo Pier. Rooms were clean and spacious. Staff was friendly. Parts of room were modern. Very good in-house restaurant. Great balcony off pier. Good price. Misses: Hard to overlook one room had bugs. “Amenity Fee” for that room was waived as result, but fee was BS to begin with as not much for amenities. Parts of rooms (carpet) were dated.

We booked the penthouse suite for my birthday. On arrival after checking into the room we asked to be moved to a different room as our original one had not been cleaned, and there was no cleaners available. Daily we had to ask for cleaner to come back to do something. Cups and glasses were left dirty and floors not washed in fact we had dirty feet without shoes. The room itself was large with fantastic facilities which need a refresh. We had to ask for maintenance to help with the door and a llighr bulb. The staff were always friendly but at this price point attention to detail really lacking. On this basis we would choose elsewhere in future

The room was very modern and amazing! I loved the view I had of the marina and the ocean. What I didn’t like was the freezing cold temperature of the room. Even when I turned the thermostat up to 80° with the door closed both the sliding door and the room door. The room was freezing. I ended up catching a cold from freezing all weekend long.

Great location and the rooftop pool area is really nice. The rooms are huge, nice balcony. Welcome drink was delicious. My complaint really is the lighting in the room and bathroom are terrible - soooo dark! Even opening the curtains as far as we could didn’t remedy it. The hair dryer could also use about 70% more power / took about 20 min to dry my hair. Comfortable bed and pillows made up for it.

The hotel sold this expensive room as “executive penthouse” which suggests strongly that it’s at the top or at least an upper floor. It’s not. It’s on the ground floor where literally people from the wise walk can look in and see everything and hop a very small balcony and be in your room. This prevents you from leaving large balcony windows open, the whole point on staying on the water. Complete lacking in privacy.

The room was lovely and large and perfect for our last night to just wind down and pack for our long flight home. The marina view and bath on the patio was lovely. The only issue on that first floor was the noise. The other guests walking past the room on walk path and the room door, the marina jetty gate slammed regularly and the hotels trolleys rattling past. possibly that floor isn't the best for quiet rest.
The room was lovely and large and perfect for our last night to just wind down and pack for our long flight home. The marina view and bath on the patio was lovely. The only issue on that first floor was the noise. The other guests walking past the room on walk path and the room door, the marina jetty gate slammed regularly and the hotels trolleys rattling past. possibly that floor isn't the best for quiet rest.

The room was ok, but is more of a three star hotel than four. Small pool on the rooftop, but with a lovely view over the harbor. We were four people and booked a room with one kingsize and a sofabed. The sofabed was very hard. Almost no matress and just a blanket cover. Not ideal if you want a good night sleep. Ok breakfast, but not the best of options unless you want to add additional cost to your alleready 25USD continental breakfast. The hotel is situated 10 mins walk from the beach, Hermosa. Poor service at counter. Not friendly. On top of getting 80 dollar charge after booked room this was added to bill. Then they call me to offer me a a free sparkling wine . I dont drink wine i said can you just send some beer. They said no we cant. What the heck. Why offer?? Wont stay here again. Be careful of the extra fees here im going to spend an extra 150 that i didnt plan on.

We attended a family function nearby and The Shade was a recommendation. We booked it and decided on our trip down to book a 2nd room for our older daughters to have more space. Well, that reservation did not get to the hotel despite us having a reservation number. In any event the woman at the front desk made some adjustments and got our 2nd room sorted out. About 20 min in she offered us a glass of sparkling wine since it was taking so long. We gladly accepted. The entire process of checking in took about 30minutes. Hubby not happy. It was strange how long it was taking. The couple before us had about a 10+ minute check in and my husband asked the valet if this is normal to take so long & they said yes. Final note re: front desk. When we checked out, I mentioned the time it took to check in, she muttered something about their computer system. Attitude was not appreciated considering how much we just spent there. We did enjoy our rooms and loved the outdoor bar restaurant and the servers. Just wish it had stayed open passed 10pm. Lots of people but still closed at 10pm. Recommendation would be to tell people especially those with kids that screaming, playing & yelling while running down the corridor at 7am is not very neighborly. It echos so it would be nice to make it a quiet zone from 10pm to 9am. Beware to future travelers that the parking is $45 a night and they tack on another fee at check in of $34.95 Amenity Inclusion Chg.

We’ve been coming to Redondo beach a few years now and this was our first time staying at the Shade Hotel. Very friendly staff, nice rooms and great restaurant and bar area. The roof top pool and lounge area was very nice. Easy walking distance to local shops and restaurants.

Unfortunately many added fees (approximately $100 for mandatory valet parking and amenity fee). Unfortunately the gym does not meet minimum standards. The roof top pool was nice with amazing views although the loungers are showing their age. The daily happy hour is a great value with tasty options. The amenity fee based breakfast was of average quality and not worth $39.00 or even half the price. Overall I have mixed emotions due to cost versus value.

We had an excellent experience here! The food at the restaurant was so delicious! The cocktails were amazing. All the staff at the restaurant/bar and hotel were so friendly and helpful! The views here are breathtaking! We loved the 3rd floor marina facing room. The beds were very comfortable. Everything was clean. There were lots of thoughtful options in the mini bar selection. The roof top pool was a vibe. Loved all the amenities. One beach is much father walking distance so be prepared for that. We celebrated our 10 year wedding anniversary and we felt spoiled. We would love to come back sometime!

Nice Hotel at Redondo with big rooms and a smaller rooftop pool. BUT there are two things to mention about which wasn’t quite good. The charge for car parking is about 45$per day! For me installed as a money making machine. There is much free space around and the half should more than enough. The restaurant close by has a good menu and ice sitting area. Absolutely horrible is the breakfast each morning. I never had such a bad experience!!! 2 fruits, two yoghurt, scrambled eggs and yes coffee. But the price of the breakfast is absolutely not correct for the quality and variance of the breakfast. I staid 9 nights and I’ve had always the same at the morning. Juice will be extra charged for example. By checking out nobody was asking me about my stay so it seems there are not really interested about. At the end one of the hotels I cannot prefer to be again.

I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at Shade Hotel. My room was so spacious and well appointed! I loved the tub out on my private balcony! The industrial type steamer was fabulous at getting a long formal dress ready to wear for a wedding. The robe was so comfy, as was the bed. Great room to relax and enjoy the view of the marina. Really appreciated the "living room" area with the couch. Nice touches like heavy shower doors, good hardware on the drawers... The ONLY thing that was not 5-star was the breakfast - dried out eggs, greasy sausage... nothing special there. Better than nothing, but you do pay for it dearly in the "amenity charge" which is another $34+ ! For that I would expect better quality breakfast. The oatmeal was good. We did like the rooftop pool and the food we ordered there was delicious! The shisito peppers had a tasty citrusy crunchy salt/spice on them, and the burata pear with arugula, ariels, on a good bread was yummy.
