Really nice hotel with a lot of character. Nice large room with a large en-suite. Good breakfast ( although i never did get any eggs) it was always empty and told they were coming. Nice bar with good selection of draught beer. Nice outdoor seating areas.Has local bus stop right at hotel to get into town center. Being an older hotel there is no elevator and has quite a few stairs to climb.Overall still worth staying to get the location and helpful staff.

Braid Hills hotel is very well sited in a pleasant Edinburgh suburb. Buses to the centre run frequently from a stop a few steps away. There is ample free parking.The bed was comfortable and we had a lovely view of the city. We enjoyed the evening meals we had in the hotel. The staff were friendly and helpful. The hotel is on a hill and there is no lift so those with mobility problems might find it unsuitable

Good location, easy access to local shops bars,restaurants in Morningside. Also bus stops outside hotel gives good access to Edinburgh town centre .Bus service is frequent , No 11 into centre of Edinburgh. Only drawback could be that there is no lifts in hotel, we had to climb over fifty steps to get to our room on top floor. Also after leaving main areas ,stair carpets are grubby and worn.Main bedroom could do with being redecorated,,though bathroom loooked recently refurbished. Did'nt detract from our short stay overall.As we were out most of the day and evening. We would stay again as we thought the price we paid was good value for money.

Very good stay with no complaints. The breakfast was amazing, free carpark and closed to all amenities. Around just over half an hour walk to the castle of Edinburgh and there's also a bus stop right outside to get us to the centre. The check out should be at 12pm and not 11am... Apart from that, everything else was good and I will stay there again.

I travelled with my partner and 10 months baby. I have to admit I only look at the reviews but I had completely overlooked the fact that it is a very old hotel. I sincerely appreciate the hotel staff to help carry my suitcase up to the second floor with the help and support from the receptionist is outstanding. but everything else is a nightmare. There was a spider the size of my baby fist, the room floor carpet was definitely not clean or at least appear clean. The shower water drips out so you have to take 2X more time to wash. The baby co sleeps with us and having 2 singles put together is fine but then you get the gap in between which the hotel can cover it with a topper? Unfortunately with the price we paid, I don’t think is worth. I hope you can look into improving the hotel condition.

Staff were friendly and the location of the hotel was great but the room did not feel very clean: around 40 hairs in the bathroom, an empty plastic cup and a packet of biscuit crumbs the side of the bed. The decor is nice enough but damaged and stuck back together with sellotape. Quite strange. We got the room on a deal - £110 instead of £210. I would have been absolutely livid if I'd paid the latter price.

Lovely building, but in very poor condition and really needs major refurbishment. Corridor carpets were worn and in held together by tape on some stairs. Our room was small and in poor condition- peeling, flaking wallpaper and plaster, one wardrobe door completely missing, all paintwork chipped, stains, splatters and a couple of hairs on the walls. Shower water flow was poor and barely lukewarm. We were only here briefly for one night otherwise would have requested a different room. Staff were courteous and friendly though, and the star attraction for us was Magnus the wonderful hotel cat, who we spent ages petting in the reception area (my main reason for booking a room here!).

Whole hotel needs urgent updating from the corridors, stairs and room. Wallpaper coming off wall, woodwork chipped, wardrobe door was missing and could not close bathroom door. Shower very poor, but bathroom and bed clean. Breakfast very good.

Poorly lit car park and access to room which was in a separate building. Directed to a separate building through the car park with no lighting. Room was heated with a portable heater as towel rail and radiators not in action so was very cold when we arrived. Pleather headboard peeling. Cobwebs. Window blind not fit for purpose, light pouring into room as soon as it started getting light. Peeling ceilings. Cat in restaurant and sitting on tables.

I was very disappointed. While the building is dated, that's no excuse for the overall state of the room. From torn wallpaper, a dirty bathroom ceiling, stains on the carpet, and a lingering mildue smell. I read other reviews where people mentioned the coffee maker, so I decided to look inside before making a coffee. And like others, it was not in good condition. I did notice a service sticker that was last dated 2017 with the next to be in 2018. It's 2023. One set of stairs in the hall were patched with duct tape. For the high cost I paid it was not at all worth it. Location from the city center is 20min by car or an hour walk. It is not ideal if you plan on spending a lot of time going back and forth. While I had limited interaction with the staff. I would say it was poor. You're not really made to feel welcome, and upon checkout, I wasn't even asked how my stay was. A typical service question in the hotel industry.

Staying on the 3rd floor really means going up 5-6 flights of stairs from bus stop. It’s an opening in the bushes with a 20 feet of stairs. No lift makes this property difficult to navigate with luggage. The upper floors were very hot from sun. Poor ventilation and lack of cooling except opening windows approximately 2 inches. It is very unique property but these drawbacks need to be considered.

This is an older hotel, which added to the charm. We found the room with 2 twin beds to be roomy and comfortable with a sitting area of 2 chairs and tea unit quite nice. . The bathroom was clean and large. I'd stay again!

Lovely room with view over park. Bed was comfortable and room was clean. Breakfast was good - plenty of choice. Dinner was excellent and staff were friendly and helpful. Hotel is looking a bit tired and could do with a bit of a freshen up but otherwise everything was fine. Good transport links into Edinburgh and handy for the bypass if travelling further afield. Would definitely come back again.

It's a nice hotel, a little shabby and down-at-heel in places (carpets with black tape over the worn areas). The member of staff who greeted us on arrival was not very friendly or welcoming and gave us a room key that wasn't activated. The worst thing was how hot the room was. There is no aircon and it was hard to sleep, you start sweating as soon as you get out of the shower, etc. It's not cheap so I'd expect aircon in a place like this. The window only opened a crack and didn't help much. Well served by buses around the city. Didn't have breakfast there so can't comment. Cleaner knocked at 8.20am when we were still in bed! Overall somewhat disappointing for the money.

We are extremely dissatisfied with our stay at this hotel. At the end of our tour through Scotland, we stayed here. unfortunately, it turned out to be a very disappointing experience. Firstly, three glasses we had collected from various distilleries during our trip disappeared from our room. The hotel initially conducted an internal investigation to try and determine what might have happened to them, for which we were grateful. However, since then, we have never received any follow-up, and our requests for updates on the status of the investigation are now being ignored. While the glasses were not of great monetary value, they held significant sentimental value to us, as we will likely never visit those distilleries again. Secondly, we had booked two rooms, yet they were placed as far apart from each other as possible within the hotel, which was very inconvenient. To make matters worse, one of the two rooms had no hot water on the first day of our stay. Overall, this stay was far below our expectations and left us with a very negative impression of both the hotel and its customer service.

Nice spacious room - quiet and comfortable. Adequate breakfast - good hot food although bread offering could be better. Lovely staff at breakfast but reception staff could be more professional. Lovely hotel but very tired . Staff are very welcoming, friendly and professional. The views from the hotel. Though the view from our room was not but I suppose someone had to stay in it. There were a few issues with the room which I informed the reception staff on checkout and welcomed the points I noted . The dining room furniture, in particular the dining chairs need replacing . We liked the area and we walked into Edinburgh which is a good 50mins. We caught the night bus home once which took about 15mins .

There were a few issues with the room which I informed the reception staff on checkout and welcomed the points I noted . The dining room furniture, in particular the dining chairs need replacing . We liked the area and we walked into Edinburgh which is a good 50mins. We caught the night bus home once which took about 15mins .

Signature room was awful: no side tables or side lights by bed which meant I had to switch off the central light by the door and then navigate back to the bed in the dark. The bed allegedly had controls to raise the mattress and pop-up a Tv from the footboard but again, nothing worked. The central light was a chandelier which had a dodgy light which flickered and neither the TV in the main room, nor the one on the bathroom actually worked. I was staying two nights and complained on the first day and was told that someone would arrive the next day to fix the main TV but alas, although a new TV arrived, it still didn’t work. I emailed the manager to complain again but no response was forthcoming, Terrible customer service. I can only assume that the signature vibe was Fawlty Towers.

We booked Braid Hills as we were going to an event at the O2 arena and this was a good commute base. From the minute we walked through the door till the minute we left the staff couldn't have been nicer, especially Jake who was definitely made for hospitality as he was a credit to his role he was extremely helpful and informative and happy to chat and make you feel right at home he was a lovely you man.Our room the signature castle view room was spotlessly clean, cosy and comfortable with fantastic views over the city. I can’t comment on the breakfast as I was unfortunately a little worse for wear the next morning so unfortunately never managed to get to breakfast. I would definitely recommend staying and will certainly stay again.

I really enjoyed my return visit to this hotel, it gets the important things right. In particular excellent service from the staff, from the reception, restaurant, cleaners all only too happy to help. A special mention to Liane (not sure of spelling) who went above and beyond to help me. Strongly recommend!

staying for business purposes, I always prefer an independent hotel over a 'chain'. Braid Hills is full of character, in a tremendous setting. The breakfast was outstanding value and quality! There was an issue at dinner, where the restaurant staff were at times overwhelmed. The Manager kindly addressed this to my satisfaction. It would not prevent me from returning on a weekly basis for the next 2 months.

Beautiful Leanne hosting the biggest smile and hospitality, Rekha ( good luck with your pregnancy), Raj, Wing, and the other staff whose names escape me, and compliments to the chefs just a great team of people representing a great place to stay in Edinburgh... the 3* doesnt matter to me, you will be 5* in my books. Braid Hills hotel is very well sited in a pleasant Edinburgh suburb. Buses to the centre run frequently from a stop a few steps away. There is ample free parking.The bed was comfortable and we had a lovely view of the city. We enjoyed the evening meals we had in the hotel. The staff were friendly and helpful. Really good location, short distance from bustling Morningside, and not far from central Edinburgh. Bus stop across the road. The Hotel is impressive. We got a cheap deal, so our room didnt have a view, but more expensive rooms are available. Room was a little tired, but comfortable and spacious enough for a short stay. Communal areas were spacious, comfortable and clean. Enjoyed our stay.

We have stayed at Braid Hills Hotel on several occasions as it is conveniently located for visiting family members who live a 10 minute walk away in Morningside. The free parking is an import factor in our selection of this hotel. We also like the fact that should we wish to go into the city centre there is a frequent bus service right outside the hotel. The hotel is a little dated and would benefit from some refurbishment, but the rooms are clean, beds are comfortable and bathrooms function properly. Staff are welcoming and helpful and bar and restaurant prices are reasonable.

This is the 2nd time we have stayed at Braid Hills hotel. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. However we were disappointed in the hot breakfast. The first morning we came down to breakfast at 9.05 am and the hot breakfast was non existent. The hot food had not been replenished only black pudding in the tureen which looked like sludge. No croissant or pastries and only a few slices of bread for toasting. Not at all appetising. Our bed mattress had a considerable lapse on one side so we took it in turn to sleep on that side. We always use Best Western when staying in Edinburgh.The Brunstfield is another hotel that we have stayed in and would recommend to family and friends. Great hotel and rooms, The only down side is the cost of the food and drinks. My brother and I were working and the company covers the bills. Needless to say, Sausage and Mash, a Pork Burger and two bottles of Thatchers Gold and the bill came to £48.40 The food portions were nice but not big. The prices stopped us eating there again, even though we were not paying. If they drop their prices they would make more money because we would have eaten there 4 out of 4 nights instead of just the once. I had a great room (413) but my brother's was on the small side although comfortable and both had good showers. As I said the only downside was the cost of the food and drinks, otherwise a great hotel. Would I stop there again ? Probably I would, but I'd either get a takeaway ( like we did) or eat else where.

Crazy business set up. the catering and bar are run by a separate business to the hotel. So arriving back at 11.15pm the bar was closed and the night porter couldn't help as its separate to the hotel, even though it in the hotel. Went for breakfast which we had not pre-booked and before being able to start you had to pay. I had left my cards upstairs so as them to stick it on the bill, again its a separate entity they cant do that. So a business set up with no thought to what customers might need. Terrible, and there is no lift !! All this for £200 per night!!!!!

Lovely room with view over park. Bed was comfortable and room was clean. Breakfast was good - plenty of choice. Dinner was excellent and staff were friendly and helpful. Would definitely come back again.

Rooms are large but overall they are tired and need updating. Limited menu in the restaurant for dinner and the breakfast area is like a sauna. Additionally the key card stopped working every day which meant I was up and down three floors (no lift). Positives are nice staff, the food is good and there are lots of hills for those that like walking.

It’s okay but not good enough for the price £800 for 5nights, room is too small and bed is low and very uncomfortable. They need refurbishment tbh as most of their chairs needed to change. Cleanliness is okay. Be mindful that you now need to pay travel tax £34 for two. It’s a bit convenient that is not too far from the city centre. Lovely Edinburgh we’ll surely comeback in Scotland again.
