Riu Dunamar - All Inclusive

Nice resort. Beds in room were smalll. Hard to fit 2 adults, or even 2 kids in the bed. Food was food and plenty of polite and wonderful staff. One things i didn’t like was the gym. Half the equipment was broken and it’s really small…. Would be nice if it was open 24/7.

Very nice all inclusive. There are a LOT of people at the place. There are only a few toilets by the pool and lobby. always a line. Great beach with white sand and palm trees.

This hotel property was very nice and clean. The pools were large and warm with plenty of seating. The beach was beautiful with plenty of seating. Besides the front desk staff (not very accommodating including not allowing us to check-in until 3:45 even though we arrived before 1), the remainder of the staff was great (we did tip them well) and more than willing to help. The entertainment wasn’t amazing but good enough. My complaint and why I likely wouldn’t return, is unfortunately the food and drinks were not very good. I saw this mentioned in many of the reviews but was hopeful they were just overly picky or had too high of expectations. We stayed for a week and my kids had a hard time finding something they liked and overall the food was just ok. The mixes for the drinks were very sugary and did not taste great. 5 star property but 3 star food.

Excellent stay. Property is wheelchair friendly. Allowed us to walk and enjoy facilities with wheelchair bound guest. Outstanding staff member Jose, the person that places and arranges the chairs on the beach. Helped me to carry my husband to the beach from where the walk ends and he was able to enjoy the beach and be close to the water he loves!!!! Thank you Jose!! You made the difference!

Waterpark is nice

There are a lot of negative reviews for this property. Take them with a grain of salt. Overall I would say it was not spectacular, but not terrible. The water slides were our biggest draw since we were traveling with our kids (11 and 15). They were really fun and fast, and open 10 to 5 every day except Monday; that info is hard to find online but it was posted at the property. Our favorite part was the beach. This RIU has a beautiful beach, nice soft sand, plenty of chairs. There is a rental place onsite where you can borrow snorkels, sailing equipment, kayaks, etc. There is also the option to rent waverunners. The wait staff (for drinks) does visit the beach but it seemed like it was a much longer wait than when we stayed at the RIU Palace in Playacar. They do bring you cups of pineapple, watermelon, and cucumber, which was very enjoyable! The pools were okay. Not as clean as I expected after the RIU Palace. The snack bar by the pool was not well kept and one day had empty ketchup packets, etc. strewn around. The dining options are thoroughly mediocre. We ate a little of everything and got a full belly every meal, but nothing was great. Often the food that should have been hot was cold, and the tastes were bland. Our room was quadruple occupancy, but they always brought two washcloths instead of four. Also, many of the wall outlets were faulty. It was hard to charge our devices because the plugs would pop right out of the outlets. But it was clean and comfortable.

Nice water slides and pools. Free catamaran rental. Music, ambiance and resort activities. Food is good.

Dining options were great. No wait and lots of choices. Pools were clean and warm. Love the covered shade areas. Still battle in the morning for a group of seats together. If you don't save a seat before 7am you struggle.

Property and staff were nice. Food was amazing. Only downside is the pools close at 7pm, limited time if you have a family who would like to swim after dinner.

Staff was polite and the property was gorgeous especially the beach. Didnt like that the bedsheets weren't that clean and not too many english tv channels

Front desk and most bartenders were really pleasant and fun. Housekeeping was HORRIBLE. They only made our beds and left us with our old muggy towels, failed to replace our toilet paper when we were completely out and the shower drain in our room clogged leaving a horrible odor coming from the drain. They threw away some of our new toiletries and razors so we had to go down to the store at the resort and buy new products which were priced 3x it’s average US price. The food was tasteless and sometimes cold. They had very little entertainment during the day, not many options but the nightly entertainment was great. I’ve been to Cancun 3x with this being the 3rd, I definitely will not be staying at this hotel resort again.

Muy sucio hotel. Aire acondicionado muy polvoso y con mal olor. No se puede apagar el AC de las recámaras. La zona del comedor general donde se encuentra el buffet debería tener extractores de olor ya que el golpe en general de la zona es muy desagradable.

The pool was too hot for the climate in hot weather who wants to get into a hot pool wish it would of been cold the pool seemed dirty and their was a smell that lingered around yhe fopd court that wasnt good when eating

My family and I travel to all-inclusive resorts often and have never had a bad Riu experience. Riu Dunamar was no different. My family of 9 (including 2 kids, 12 and 9) spent a week there over spring break and it was wonderful. Pros: the grounds were impeccably maintained, people were hard at work cleaning/maintaining at all times. Employees were friendly and helpful (special shout out to Willy at the swim up bar and Elizabeth at the breakfast buffet). The beach was AMAZING; free of seaweed, clean, and ocean was swimmable. The pools were clean and warm. The water park was a huge hit for my kids and I felt safe sending them there. The food was pretty good (I'm a picky but not fancy eater) and I didn't have any trouble finding something to eat for any meal. The drinks were pretty standard, nothing fancy but I couldn't complain. Cons: chairs by the pool were completely claimed before 8am. Beds in the double room are SMALL, like smaller than a full size small. With 2 kids, we were lucky to get a room facing the outside of the resort, as I can see if you face the interior of the resort the sounds from the show and guests would be really loud into the night. There were a lot of unruly spring breakers but the staff was pretty good at handling them. All in all, this might be one of my favorite Riu resorts and I would not hesitate to go back.

There were a few staff members that were great but we did not feel it was worth the money compared to other resorts we’ve stayed at. We were charged extra for an ocean view and we could NOT see the ocean from our room. Little to no food options at all hours of the day. Elevator numbers weren’t labeled and had food smeared on them for days! Tried to charge us for a dirty towel from pool. We have kids, kids get messy

Room was clean, spacious and a beautiful ocean view. Bars were great with great staff. Entertainment was great and the entertainment team was fun and upbeat. Other Italian restaurant was by far the BEST meal we have had and went 2 times in which the waiter knew us. The buffet was very good. Steak house needs some assistance and better food, would not recommend that at all. The beach was large, spacious and amazing swimming conditions with No seaweed The whole property was phenomenal and we will be back!!!

Beds are too small on double beds, they are full beds not queens

Very small beds in the rooms, in the pools it takes too long to pass the cart service and you have to walk to the bar for a drink.

The property was really nice but the walks were really thin you could hear everything everyone else was doing.

There was no ocean view from the room and the room was clean

Excelente pero crítico la permisividad que se le otorga al sonidista de espacio teatral que supera los Decibeles normales que hacen que los que estuvimos en la segunda planta (room 2106) sentimos como si las paredes se vinieran abajo!!!! Disminuir los mismos no afectaría la calidad de los show

Front desk staff were rude and unhelpful. Security guards staring at you all day at the pools. Very uncomfortable. 2 bartenders at swim up bars were great! Buffet food was delicious! We also loved the Japanese restaurant. The steakhouse was really bad and service there was awful!

They did not carry out the check in, even though I did it days in advance. They rented my room and made us wait for the room to be cleaned. At night after 11pm they made repairs, I could not sleep for several days. At the reception they do not answer calls. When I asked to replenish the drinks in the minibar, they came to remove the drinks and entered without permission, finishing my shower, very unpleasant, without an explanation, this due to a mistake. The staff did not have the professionalism to check and avoid an incident due to an error for another guest. For a five star hotel, the service was not appropriate, I stayed a week and what I received was an apology note, when I asked to speak to the manager in person to clarify the inconveniences and he did not agree to see me

The staff were rude the entire trip. The phones did not work in the rooms. The customer service was horrible. When I tried to complain about cigarettes smells in the room, no towels, no phone service, I was treated very nasty by the front desk staff.

Staff was not accommodating with transportation. Over charged me

Good stay at the property. Expedia needs to remove the information about the shuttle. I was left in the airport without access to the shuttle. The hotel claims that I need to talk to Expedia and they did nothing about it. Ended up needing to rent a car for a lot.

The property is gorgeous and very well maintained. Super friendly staff and very helpful. The only thing that I think could be better is the American options for food. No maple syrup at breakfast time but some apple type instead. I went with my teenage son and there were no chicken nuggets, tenders or fried chicken wings of any sort. Still a 8.8 out of 10 for me.

Wonderful Staff at Riu Dunamar! During our recent stay at Hotel Riu Dunamar, we were truly impressed by the exceptional service provided by the staff. They went above and beyond to ensure our comfort and enjoyment throughout our vacation. Overall, the staff at Hotel Riu Dunamar made our stay memorable. Their warm smiles, prompt assistance, and genuine care truly set this resort apart. We can’t wait to return!

Limited food variety, but ok for the price and being an all inclusive Hotel I guess. Most of the servers looked and acted as if they didn’t want to be there. Only one good guy that earned well deserved tips throughout our stay. His name is Neto and works at the buffet for lunch and dinner time. One of the things that stood out the most was how rude and disrespectful the staff at the kids water park were. They will start letting you know( In a very pushy way) that the park is closing 40 min before closing time, which is 5pm. Then 20 min before 5 a staff member came and shut the shades on top of the lazy chairs we were seating at. No “excuse me” or manners at all. When we told him it was disrespectful, he brushed it off and said “it’s time to go, you people take too long”. We have a picture of the staff member we can provide.

The property was nice, however 45 mins from the airport. Staff very friendly & helpful. Food was average.

We really enjoyed our time at Riu Dunamar. It takes about 45 mins to get there from the airport so be sure to arrange transportation ahead of time. Food is decent and the drinks are strong. Be careful because those drinks will keep coming!! The resort is spotless and the beach is large and perfect. Check in takes about 2 mins and check out is the same. Perfecto Schedule a day trip if you are there for 4 days Would return to another RIU

Location

The hotel is on the developing area too much far from the parks and interesting areas to visit around Cancun. It is too big with to many people. Restorants, pools and entertaiment areas are not enough. Cloud and noisy everywhere.

Lovely property far from hotel zone. LOTS of families and quiet areas.

The property was very beautiful staff very friendly. Only downside is it’s far from downtown Cancun so you will have to use a taxi to get places

It was the our first trip to Cancun , and choosing RIU Dunamar was the best option, the only thing was it is about 30-40 min away from airport and since we reached around the evening rush hour it took us about an hour to reach there , and the area between airport and resort felt scary.. all jungles both sides and barely any through traffic, Cancun is a safe area though but still.And there Queen size beds are actually not queen size , they were small. Other than that everything was great ..food , food service, cleanliness, staff ..kids had a great time on water slides and pool . Beach was beautiful. Had a great time .

Chose this hotel because of the waterpark. Glad I did because my daughter loved it. The property is very clean and most of the staff was friendly. The food options were better on some days than others, but still very good. The only downside is that there is nothing at all outside of the property. But I already knew that when I booked. If you want to be in area where there is entertainment and shopping nearby, the hotel zone is where you want to be. If you are just wanting to stay within the facility and enjoy yourself, this is a great option. Overall, I would came back again.

One of the most memorable things from my first visit to Cancun more than 30 year ago, was driving the Hotel Zone and seeing all the beautiful resorts located along the ocean. You will not have that experience here as the location is quite a distance north of the Hotel Zone and felt very isolated. The dining hours and options are limited with NO room service. The 24 hour food that is advertised as room service is actually nachos, cold hot dogs, hamburgers and sandwiches kept in a fridge at the sports bar that you have warm using the microwave in the bar. The pools along with the associated bars close at 7pm and everyone is shuffled to the stage area where they make a big deal out of their "parties". Everywhere except that area and the sports bar shut down at 7pm leaving the entire rest of the resort oddly vacant. Luckily it was not crowded when we were there, but if had been this would be a big problem. With a few exceptions (pool bartenders) the staff was not overly friendly or accommodating. Every other All Inclusive that I have stayed at really made the experience feel like a true luxury vacation. Riu Dunamar made it feel like the guests were children that needed to go to bed early and if you wanted a bedtime snack it was only going to be a crappy food that you had to make yourself. All considered, I would not return.

Overall great place to come with kids, water slides are top attractions for kids and adults. Great food. Buffet has small selection compared to other Riu hotels but was not bad. Would recommend to others and would come back again.

Un poco decepcionada por el hotel, no es un 5 estrellas como tal, las bebidas son muy malas, el alcohol es el más barato que hay, en recepción desafortunadamente no ayudan mucho con la información del hotel, no saben si hay algo incluido en el spa, o si el kayak está incluido, tienes que ir directamente a buscar todo la información. Comida muy repetitiva en el buffet, la comida es buena, los restaurantes de especialidades también, el asiatico fantástico y el italiano también, no recomiendo el Kulinarium porque es muy tardado y la comida a parte esta muy x, solo bonita presentación, todas las mesas estaban esperando su comida y se veía la gente molesta, hasta una mesa se fue por esperar tanto, a ese no regresamos. Tienen bonita playa, personal muy agradable, equipo de animación son muy buenos, personal en los bares y restaurantes son muy atentos. El hotel no está malo solamente que no vale un 5 estrellas, mas bien un 4 o un 3. Está muy lejos de todo así que si quieres salir un taxi te va a cobrar carísimo

We loved this property for a quiet, relaxing vacation. The food was good but not completely 24hours. We wanted more seafood options. The activities and entertainment were great and fun.

This is an average all-inclusive. If it had not been for the amazing customer service, I would have given it a lower rating. The food is well below average at all concepts. The best food option was the breakfast buffet, and even that was lackluster compared to other resorts we have visited.

Great staff! Ocean view rooms were nice. Beach was excellent. Plenty of pool options. Clean resort. Food was not very good at any of the restaurants. Most items were over cooked or not warm. Buffet was probably best overall. Ok alcohol selection, but nothing high end. Budget and kid friendly resort.
