SpringHill Suites by Marriott The Dunes On Monterey Bay

The staff from the time we checked in to the time we checked out, the staff was courteous & kind. On the day we we’re going to check out, both the elevators broke! We were on the fourth floor & I am disabled, stairs would have been a problem. Vinecia at the front desk assured us that the elevators would be fixed & she told us that we could take our time checking out (check out is at noon). We were ready to leave at 12:30 & the elevators were working! Thank you very much Springhill by Marriott! We will definitely stay again when visiting Monterey!

Spacious, clean, friendly staff, and breakfast is always good. My only concern would be the parking, which isnt a big issue. If you arent there early enough, you might have to park on the street; however, it does beat paying $40 for parking.

The pool was heated. There is a small market where you can purchase snacks and drinks. Location is great. It is near restuarants and even a mall area with a Target. The elevator didnt work when we tried to check out, but other than that it was a good hotel.

Nice place to stop and spend the night. The fireplace terrace is calm and has a nice view

New building. 15min drive from Monterey Downtown. Inside pool is small. During our stay, there were many families with kids. If you want time to swim, try early in the morning when everybody is having breakfast.

The room was nicely appointed and well designed. The location of the TV was a bit awkward but the layout of the suite made the location mandatory. Over-all an excellent room. The rooftop lounging area is also very nice for viewing spectacular sunsets. Location is very convenient in terms of quick access to the highway and we really appreciated the new TJs across the street. On the down side, the room features a 3 panel pass-thru bypass sliding glass divider between the desk and bed area that rattles every time you walk near it. We stopped it by wedging napkins between the panes of glass but it is annoying. The single biggest detractor, sadly, was the hotel bar. IMO, a hotel bar is an accomodation to the clients and should not be treated as a profit center. I understand the cost of alcohol at bars, but the glasses of wine that we were served were price as a premium wine at $9 a glass and were truly mediocre on top of seriously over-priced. Worst of all, the bartender had the same welcoming personality as an airport parking attendant making him the biggest detracting aspect of the entire stay. I would recommend the hotel to fellow travelers with the caveat of avoid the bar (you can pay the per glass price for wine across the street at TJs for a full bottle of a much better wine and not have the aggravation of a surly bartender), and we found that you'd best hit the continental breakfast early if you don't want to be in a line (PS; no pastries).

Has EV chargers which was a pleasant surprise. All was great.

Great time for the kids. Pool was kind of small. Didnt have a bathtub like I was told during booking. But it had a good breakfast and the forepits were awesome

I liked the room, it was clean and a decent amount of space. The staff I interacted with were friendly. The free breakfast was ok, standard. My one point of contention is the “heated” indoor pool. I knew this pool was small but calling it heated is a stretch. I even asked a staff member but could not get a straight answer about the pool temp. This pool was maybe 78 degrees. I regularly swim in an outdoor heated pool and this pool is barely heated if at all.

With a property this big, there needs to be more laundry units, especially if you have a pool. With that said, there also needs to be available towels for guests when they are using the pool.

Had ants this morning

Things I enjoyed: proximity to shops and food, the breakfast, the fire pit, pool and work out facility Things I did not enjoy: my room had ants, housekeeping did not clean my room or provide new towels each day

Easy check-in and the room was extremely clean.

This hotel is very clean and all of the employees are most helpful. Big screen tv 's in the lobby along with a small bar that has a nice happy hour. Our room was immaculate! Perfect location with 15 minute access to Carmel and Monterey. Will be back again.

Very clean and close to shopping and restaurants

The property was close to shopping and food. There were ants in the room. Staff did respond in a period of time and sprayed with raid. The ants returned over night. This is not acceptable for a hotel. I will not choose to stay here in the future.

Almost amazing. The air conditioner did not stay on through the night making it warm in the room. We woke up frequently to adjust the temperature. Bath towel had someone else’s hair on it.

It is also conveniently close to a big shopping center, which is literally a block away. It’s nice that it’s close to that to have other options to eat and to shop.

Had a few ants when we woke up this morning

This hotel was very conveniently located. Was a 21 minute drive to the Monterey Bay Aquarium and the Cannery area. It’s next to a commercial shopping area with a Target, REI and lots of chain restaurants. Breakfast was adequate, parking was convenient and the rooms were large. My only complaint is that the rooms could’ve been cleaner. There was still hair in the shower from the last guest and gunk on the wallpaper in the bathroom near the sink and toilet which I had to clean myself with bleach wipes to keep from getting too grossed out. Otherwise was a good choice for families with kids.

There were no toiletries in rooms. Rooms are odd shape and barely room to walk

It was generally comfortable. At night, I was on the third floor, but there was quite a lot of noise from the fourth floor.

The hotel is nice but the climate control in the room was less than ideal. The bench built over the ac/heating unit pushed the output of air onto the bed. Combined with the thermostat being in the lounge area on the other side of the room it was either way too hot or way too cold air blowing on the bed. Otherwise it was a nice hotel.

Hot breakfast in the morning was very nice, with thoughtful dairy free options. Staff were very friendly and helpful. The property is nice and well kept. The rooms are very poorly lit. There is no in-room safe. Housekeeping service was subpar.

Spacious suites, great for a bigger family, breakfast was yummy and the attendants were very friendly! The view from the roof was perfect! Definitely will visit again!

Great stay! super clean and great amenities. The room size and layout was the best part. Absolutely perfect really room for our family. comfiest stay we’ve experienced in years.

The bed was the worst bed i have ever had, in ANY hotel. Had to take a cool shower because the water did not get hot. We were up and int he shower by 6:30 am, because the bed was so terrible, so it wasnt like they were short of hot water because everyone was showering.

We were very impressed with the lobby, the amenities, like a mini grocery store, complimentary coffee, tea, and hot chocolate, and water. The lobby was inviting, and the outdoor space had firepits and lounge seats. The problem was in our room. The beds are ROCK hard and made sleeping very uncomfortable. Our shower leaked and our tv had been disconnected. These issues we didn't discover until after 10PM. When I mentioned all of this to the front desk the next morning, I was told it would be noted. When I spoke to management via email, I was assured my experience would be addressed to make future stays more enjoyable. I felt a reasonable response would be a discount on our current stay or a voucher for future stays.

The room layout was a bit odd. The tv on the wall was between the bedroom and living room so not a good vantage point for either. Very dark room with not much lighting. Bed was so so. Check in person was not friendly at all. Breakfast was the usual.

Beds were not comfortable

The service was excellent! Plenty of staff at the front desk to help check in, store luggage & answer questions. The staff let us use the conference room to celebrate a birthday, which we totally appreciated. Ordered mimosas from the breakfast bar & they brought them to us in the conference room! 5 stars to all the staff.

Not great. Deadbolt didn’t work. It was reported along with the broken phone. We were told someone would come to fix them but they didn’t. High priced but not great.

The staff working the free breakfast were amazing. They were constantly refilling and cleaning. They did an awesome job.

Joann and the young gentleman with curly hair were very nice and helpful. Definitely enjoyed our stay here. Loved that the hotel was close to the Dunes State Park. The continental breakfast was the best I had ever had. Other hotels we have been to were just okay. Their rooftop lounge was nice too. And they have a shopping area across the street if you forget or need things from clothes to grocery and food. I would avoid the Brass Tap restaurant. They weren’t good.

Every staff member that we met during our stay was so friendly and very helpful.

We had a situation in our room and the staff was great about switching our rooms in a timely manner.

The front desk staff member who identified herself as the manager was extremely rude, they did not give me the room I booked and when I asked for a different room she said they were sold out and when I asked for other solutions she threatened to kick me out of the hotel. I later checked the hotel availability on Expedia for the same night and they had two rooms available, I don’t understand why she had to lie and why she was so quick to threaten to kick out a family of 5. As a 39 year old frequent traveler who has stayed at many Marriott hotels all over the world this was the worst treatment I have ever received. The room itself had a very dirty sofa bed that my 15 year old was grossed out to sleep in.

This hotel did Train the staff and the girl That was working charged me double for the room. I booked they Expedia and you have to pay right away, but when we got to the hotel late that night she charged me again for the room. Before the check out in the morning I noticed that. Asked the guy to refund me and he said he will try. He tried to make it Expedia, which they don’t have nothing to do with it, as it was charged directly to my card that only deposit was going to go on there. Still waiting for my money. I told him the girl should pay attention, and tell the customer what she is charging, not just roll her eyes and pretend to be happy at her job. Horrible horrible. This is not $20 dollars or $500

Really love this location it’s very convenient to shops and restaurants and of course the Monterey Bay shoreline,

We were told that it was 5 minutes away from the beach and that was untrue.

Clean and welcoming hotel. Rooms are comfortable. The couch is large enough for a small child without pulling it out as a bed. Hot breakfast buffet was simple yet met our needs. Location is great, about a 10 minute drive to Cannery Row. And it's right across the street from plenty of big box stores.

We enjoyed our stay but it is a bit off the beaten path. Great price for what you get. I would stay again for the amenities and staff :-)

Good central location

Great location, great views! This place was great for our family. The facility was clean, staff was kind and close to many local places. If any complains the pool was the only thing, it needs to be warmer, kids still jumped in and had fun. Their breakfast was great all their staff was very attentive!

Loved how it was centrally located near dining and shopping. The hotel states it has a restaurant, but truly DOES NOT! It's a bar with appetizers. Customer service was amazing. The clerk up front was very friendly. Things were tidy and clean, which I appreciate. We will absolutely stay here again in the future!

Easy to walk around with food options and shopping being very good. Pool size is too small. Breakfast although free is quiet low quality. No pancake or waffle station, Eggs are powdered and sausage is dry. No fresh fruit other than banana and apples. Would be nice to see a larger fresh feuit section

First and foremost I want to thank Joann for making the stay for me and my family absolutely wonderful. Joann was so kind,gracious , and catering to my grandchildren. We had an amazing room with an amazing view and the breakfast was incredible and fresh. Because if this I will be coming back very soon. the room was clean and spacious enough as well.

Liked the modern look of the hotel. Breakfast (included) was a bit basic, limited choice or daily variety served on paper plates and limited seating. Room was nice, lovely beds but did have issues sich as low water pressure and no housekeeping. We had to take our own rubbish out. By the 3rd day beds were finally made. Had to ask at reception for soap. Staff quiet young and apathetic style. Overall, enjoyed the stay but couldn’t help feel overpriced at >400 USD inclusive of taxes, given the below par service levels and location. Actually paid less in San Fran plus an extra night with all services we needed and expected!

The Bistro’s food offerings were terrible. We sent back the calamari. Both nights we were there they didn’t even have a chef.

We stayed here during a trip to Laguna Seca as is seems do many race fans and crews. The rooms are really nice and spacious; clean and well laid out for a longer stay. The staff are super friendly and helpful. Although there is a bar for cocktails (barman was pretty good at his cocktails) there is no food to speak of, just fried snacks. Coupled with a pretty awful breakfast complete with rubber scrambled eggs, you should avoid the food here. There is a newly built strip mall across the street with a few choices of places to get food but nothing to call a restaurant. So they really only lost the one star for food and when we come to the track again we will definitely book here again.
