Wonderful experience! The staff was super helpful and attentive. The room had a lovely feel to it with a nice view of the ocean and lots of little extras. We loved the restaurant on the property and the in-room breakfast. Wish the pool was a little hotter, but I was still able to enjoy it and it’s probably will be perfect for warmer weather. We’re definitely coming back when we are in the area! I recommend this place.

We had a very nice getaway here. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Great view of the ocean and nightly bonfire from our patio. We had a short walk to the shore. The dinners in room and at the restaurant we both super delicious. If you like spicy I recommend the crudo. They have golf cart rides from the car to your room. Once your bags are dropped off, walking around resort is no problem. My wife thinks we’re making this a yearly stay

The location is beautiful and it’s a dog friendly hotel which is why I chose it. The staff was friendly and generally helpful. The Salt Wood restaurant was delicious and they had a menu for my dog. The room was spacious, designed well and had drink and snack offerings included. I loved that it had a fireplace, large soaking tub and shower. Unfortunately, the shower didn’t drain well and the bed mattress had very little support. It was way too soft and I woke up with back pain. 1 of the 2 reading lights and an electric plug next to the bed didn’t work. I was in a bottom level suite and could hear quite a bit of noise from the people above me, as well as when the room next to me opened and closed their door. Lastly, the EV charging was misleading. The app said the rates were set by the hotel and offered free overstay charging from 12am-9am, with a 1 hr grace period. When I unplugged my car at 9:30am, after charging overnight, I was charged for a 30 min overstay. The front desk receptionist stated that the EV company set the rates and I would have to contact them to dispute the charge. I explained that the app said the hotel set the rates. She seemed confused and said she would relay the info to the manager. The lobby is very welcoming with a spacious seating area, fireplace, coffee, hot chocolate, tea and fruit available 24h. The issues I had were manageable, I would be happy to stay there again.

The resort is truly a unique and amazing property. Located right on the private beach with amenities like nightly bonfires, bocce ball, pool w/ hot tub, spa and an amazing restaurant! The restaurant on property was so spectacular with an open grill and great ambiance and incredible menu. Staff is very attentive and friendly. You move about the property in gold cars with a driver, so fun! Rooms are clean and new - beautifully decorated with a fireplace and balcony. Highly recommend!

Second stay and even better than the first. Lovely staff and rooms. Great location on the dunes, right off Hwy 1. My only complaint is parking for hotel guests. There is public parking with beach access that takes away from guests, which also opens up to non-guests using the fire pits.

Beautiful beach location. Booked entire road trip around a 2 night stay at this hotel. Bonus points as they were pet friendly. We booked an ocean front king with a patio. The room was perfect! The fenced in patio with 2 Adirondack chairs facing the ocean was magical. Our pups names on the dog bowls and treats was a nice touch. We enjoyed dinner at Salt Wood. However, for the price I was extremely disappointed that we weren’t given any notice of the ongoing construction/ landscaping occurring on property. I appreciate they are making improvements but walking through the “resort” amongst all the workers felt like a construction site, not a beach getaway. Yellow caution tape, paint cans, vehicles, landscapers and noise was ridiculous. We paid a hefty price to bring our 2 dogs and the pet relief area was closed die to construction according to a staff member and the area we were shown to use was a dirt field full of stickers/burrs. The only grass on property belonged to the time share units that share the property but posted signage everywhere indicated not to enter with a pet. Another bummer was that our room was directly behind the hotel’s beach fire pit area where guests sit to watch nightly sunsets. This same area is also popular for guests to use as a smoking area. Be prepared to wake up and see guests on the beach in their bathrobes, chatting loudly on their phones while dragging on their smokes. Gorgeous room, beach and view otherwise!

The property is a very nice collection of buildings. Our room was a suite (we were upgraded supposedly for free, but there was a $50 upcharge per day) and we had a partial ocean view. The separate shower and tub were lovely, and the bed and furniture were very comfortable. There were noticeable issues, however. The first was the cleanliness. The floor was sticky in a few places upon checking in, and the half and half container for coffee only had a small amount left. I would have expected this to be topped off before my arrival. Also, we had requested a change of bedding and room cleaning for our second day (not the fault of the hotel, but one of us got sick). The cleaning staff only replaced the sheet on top of the mattress, meaning our only blankets for our visit were the backup fleece blankets in the closet. And STILL the floors were not mopped, and coffee creamer not topped off. We had to supply our own! They did clean the container and left it out empty, but refilling it would have been preferred. Also, the old bedding was left on the outside patio instead of getting taken away by the staff. The second issue I had was a lack of temperature control. There’s no A/C or climate control in the room, there’s a fireplace for heat and open windows for cooling. It made it hard to sleep through the night, especially with the thin fleece blankets. The front desk staff were great, and made an effort to be understanding and accommodating. I’m unsure if I would stay here again.

We enjoyed the view from our oceanfront room and found the staff to be very friendly. We also appreciated the shuttle service from lobby to the room and used it several times. However, the bathroom shower head was rather unaccommodating. There was no way to change the flow setting and the water just kind of drizzled, took forever to take a shower and the soap kept accumulating. My husband actually slipped in the shower and hurt his head because of the poor water flow and soap accumulation. While he was fortunate to get away with slight pains only, I definitely think that the condition of the shower is likely to pose serious hazards to others. I definitely urge the owners to look into this matter seriously.

The room was on the surface fine but lots of problems. The shower handle on the tub didn’t work. The faucets on the tub required a lot of force. The standalone shower didn’t drain. The bathroom door frequently jammed. The curtains were inoperable. Not at all consistent with the price point of the hotel.

Thought I’d try somewhere different, as I’m in the area quite frequently. What a mistake. This place is an absolute joke. Checked in & they couldn’t offer keys- said to call them when coming & going, waiting for someone to meet me at the room to allow entry. Wow, super inconvenient, but thought ok, things happen. They’ve now brought me FIVE different sets of keys & I’ve been locked out of my room TWICE today. With medication I need, inside. The girl at the front desk doesn’t appear to understand English, offers zero help & has to have someone call back with every complaint. Manager called back with little to no help. Have literally had to talk with a manager MULTIPLE times, in less than 24 hours. I’m now on the 6th set of keys in less than 24 hours. No thermostat! Whom has a room you cannot control the temperature? Extremely loud, although they claim sound proofed rooms, which it seems everyone complains about. Went through a recent renovation according to their site, but things are quite run down. Dead RAT right outside my room & this must be usual, as I now notice rat traps everywhere. The smoke detector is BRIGHTLY flashing, flooding the room with flashing light all night. It’s obviously a problem, as they’ve attempted placing stickers of some sort over the units. And ceiling soiled in the area around it. Online they didn’t make it clear you must park super far from your room, which I’m sure would be an issue for many. I’m not super bothered, but it’s inconvenient.

Our stay was amazing. The staff were friendly and very responsive. The rooms were beautiful and literally right on the sand. The tension to detail was pretty impressive. What a beautiful resort! I spent some time there for a girls weekend and it was so relaxing. The rooms are updated and clean, and they even leave snacks for you at no additional charge. The views from our patio were absolutely amazing. We were right on the beach. The first day was a little chilly, but they have blankets for you to take outdoors if necessary. They light bonfires in the evening and have many chairs available for their guests right on the beach. Saltwood restaurant is onsite and we had a really great dinner there too along with some drinks. It is really a wonderful little hideaway from all of the hustle and bustle. If you need a special getaway I would highly recommend a stay here.

The location is beautiful and it’s a dog friendly hotel which is why I chose it. The staff was friendly and generally helpful. The Salt Wood restaurant was delicious and they had a menu for my dog. The room was spacious, designed well and had drink and snack offerings included. I loved that it had a fireplace, large soaking tub and shower. Unfortunately, the shower didn’t drain well and the bed mattress had very little support. It was way too soft and I woke up with back pain. 1 of the 2 reading lights and an electric plug next to the bed didn’t work. I was in a bottom level suite and could hear quite a bit of noise from the people above me, as well as when the room next to me opened and closed their door. Lastly, the EV charging was misleading. The app said the rates were set by the hotel and offered free overstay charging from 12am-9am, with a 1 hr grace period. When I unplugged my car at 9:30am, after charging overnight, I was charged for a 30 min overstay. The front desk receptionist stated that the EV company set the rates and I would have to contact them to dispute the charge. I explained that the app said the hotel set the rates. She seemed confused and said she would relay the info to the manager. The lobby is very welcoming with a spacious seating area, fireplace, coffee, hot chocolate, tea and fruit available 24h. The issues I had were manageable, I would be happy to stay there again.

A few challenges were (1) the weather being too chilly and windy to enjoy the beach and bonfires, but obviously not under our control and that’s what’s expected in norcal, (2) no air conditioning in the room we were in so we had to switch multiple times between opening the windows and balcony doors, getting very chilly, and turning on the fireplace, getting really hot and stuffy., (3) the spa service was nice but it was loud for a spa. You could hear the next door neighbors and the massage tables for some reason shook during the session. But overall, it was a very relaxing experience. And I would go back again just to enjoy the peace and quiet and the views.

We enjoyed an oceanfront king suite with pull out sofa. What an absolutely amazing experience. The room was right on the beach, the sand literally up to the patio. Everything was perfect, from the room and amenities to our meal at Saltwood!

I would echo what some other reviewers have mentioned that the sound proofing is not great between rooms especially if you are on the bottom level. We could very vividly hear whomever was above us specifically at night while we were trying to sleep. I brought ear plugs so that was helpful but I would never stay on the bottom floor again if we came back. Other than that we really enjoyed our stay, the amenities, property layout, and the staff. The yoga in the morning was so so wonderful- highly recommend! Would love to come back during a warmer month when it’s not as rainy or windy. We did leave a breakfast request outside our door the first night and no one ever came to get it- not the biggest deal but I’m not sure why they give you those food requests to hang on your door if no one checks them.

Decent stay however rooms are not soundproof and we could hear the people upstairs walking around and the flushing of their toilet. There is also no way to manage the temperature of the room. There was a fireplace with a manual switch which meant waking up in the middle of the night to turn it on and off if we woke up freezing or too hot. Wouldn’t recommend staying in the colder months for this reason. Staff were nice and views were great.

Sanctuary is one of my favorite resorts, not just b/c of the beauty of the hotel and the uniqueness of lodging on the beach, but because Guest Services is 10/10! From check-in, room service, the Salt Wood restaurant, to special requests, the staff is outstanding and provides an amazing experience.

As Platinum member of OneKey rewards, got a free upgrade to Ocean Front Deluxe room which is part of little villa that is right on the beach. You have your balcony and then sand - when they say Ocean Front, they mean it! Room was recently updated with high quality fixtures. They also have in-room breakfast service that they give you a card to fill out and hang on your door knob the night before. Very convenient. They also do bonfires right around sunset time on the beach, and it made for a dreamy evening. The residence buildings may be a few mins of walk away from parking, but the staff is very quick in helping you get rides to the main lobby or your parking area on their shuttle and they also helped with luggage. We had no trouble ordering on Doordash, food was delivered to front desk, which they called to confirm that they received, and then it was at our door brought by one of the staff in no time! Definitely made a wonderful experience. Highly recommend!

Thought I’d try somewhere different, as I’m in the area quite frequently. What a mistake. This place is an absolute joke. Checked in & they couldn’t offer keys- said to call them when coming & going, waiting for someone to meet me at the room to allow entry. Wow, super inconvenient, but thought ok, things happen. They’ve now brought me FIVE different sets of keys & I’ve been locked out of my room TWICE today. With medication I need, inside. The girl at the front desk doesn’t appear to understand English, offers zero help & has to have someone call back with every complaint. Manager called back with little to no help. Have literally had to talk with a manager MULTIPLE times, in less than 24 hours. I’m now on the 6th set of keys in less than 24 hours. No thermostat! Whom has a room you cannot control the temperature? Extremely loud, although they claim sound proofed rooms, which it seems everyone complains about. Went through a recent renovation according to their site, but things are quite run down. Dead RAT right outside my room & this must be usual, as I now notice rat traps everywhere. The smoke detector is BRIGHTLY flashing, flooding the room with flashing light all night. It’s obviously a problem, as they’ve attempted placing stickers of some sort over the units. And ceiling soiled in the area around it. Online they didn’t make it clear you must park super far from your room, which I’m sure would be an issue for many. We love the Sanctuary and we come ever year for our anniversary. We celebrated my birthday here this year and they gifted us champagne and macarons, as well as several other perks! They really spoiled us and have excellent service all around. Dinner at Salt Wood always exceeds our expectations! Can’t recommend this place enough

I enjoyed my stay at the recently renovated Sanctuary Beach Resort! This was my fifth visit to this lovely facility. The staff kindly welcomed me, and they even had my room ready earlier than the scheduled checking in time. I got an upgrade too! The room fixtures, furnishing, and bathroom updates were much needed and it is great to see the investment being poured into the property. The nightly bonfires are amazing! For a good dinner, you should visit Salt Wood or order room service. Robert was also a great guy. He was so welcoming and send me home feeling happy about my overall stay. I will surely be returning! My doggie approves!

The room fixtures, furnishing, and bathroom updates were much needed and it is great to see the investment being poured into the property. The nightly bonfires are amazing! For a good dinner, you should visit Salt Wood or order room service. Robert was also a great guy. He was so welcoming and send me home feeling happy about my overall stay. I will surely be returning! My doggie approves!

We had a very nice getaway here. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Great view of the ocean and nightly bonfire from our patio. We had a short walk to the shore. The dinners in room and at the restaurant we both super delicious. If you like spicy I recommend the crudo. They have golf cart rides from the car to your room. Once your bags are dropped off, walking around resort is no problem. My wife thinks we’re making this a yearly stay

We enjoyed an oceanfront king suite with pull out sofa. What an absolutely amazing experience. The room was right on the beach, the sand literally up to the patio. Everything was perfect, from the room and amenities to our meal at Saltwood!

Our stay was amazing. The staff were friendly and very responsive. The rooms were beautiful and literally right on the sand. The tension to detail was pretty impressive. Personalized bowls for our dogs and assign that welcomed our dogs as we entered the lobby. The lobby by the way is very beautiful on the outside area next to the lobby is also equally as beautiful, lots of places to sit and relax next to fire pits and fireplaces. Cute boutique type shopping is also available in the lobby.The rugs in the room were a little bit worn, which was the only reason I didn’t give it a perfect score. Also, the restaurant that we had dinner out for my husband‘s birthday was an epic fail. it took over an hour just to get our appetizers which was steamed clams. One of the clams was completely rotten and bad once we finally got our entrées. They were just OK. I got a crab pasta, but I ate the crab out of them left the rest service was very slow, but friendly. It was very disappointing considering the prices were very high. We did have brunch there earlier and brunch was amazing so I’m not sure what happened with the dinner service. Definitely was not worth the money and kind of put a bad taste on the end of our stay. Everything else was great though.

This place was amazing! We only wish we could stay longer. Call in ahead of time and speak to the manager. The staff there is very accommodating. The location is beautiful and the restaurant on site is also top notch. Highly recommended.

Great Property! A spluge for sure at about $600/nt. It's really a nice place. Well maintained. The restaurant is good.
