Emotions by Hodelpa Puerto Plata

The rooms paint was damaged from water seeping through the walls. The ac was not working in our unit and we notified at 830 pm and did not get a new room until 1130 pm. The hot water did not work at times and also the water was cut off for short periods of time on multiple days. The arcade where kids would’ve loved to play was mostly inoperable. The only thing that worked was the VR which you had to pay extra for. The bars were very limited. They only had liquor from DR that tasted horrible. The speciality restaurants were mostly booked because they were so small and the only option was the buffet so you were forced to eat there every day. The beef that they claimed was beef did not taste like beef at all. The jacuzzi which you would assume would be a hot tub was not hot at all. The pools were very cold most days. The WiFi was spotty at best and the tv only played local channels which would be fine if you were able to get a solid connection which most days we were not. The staff hounded you at the buffet entrance to ask you questions and get you to sit through a presentation to buy a room there. They had a members only bar that seemed decent but was not accessible to anyone but members understandably but that should be a paid option because the bar in there was nicer than the rest. The beach area was nice but seemed rundown. The chairs were falling apart. Overall I would not stay here again. Just based off the condition of the property and how many problems we had.

Friendly, fun, helpful staff, great selection of food, beautiful beach and pools. Loved the coffee bar cafe.

Staff is very friendly and courteous. Rooms are clean and comfortable. Beautiful grounds. It was tough finding an umbrella at the beach for shade. Very limited. Not much of a variety with food, but what they had was tasty. Great coffee and desserts. I would definitely re-visit!

Overall service outstanding. Like the hotel. To improvement needs to review their maintenance department responsiveness. Needs to fix air conditioners in Coffee Shop. In our room found leaks from the ceiling, the closet couldn’t be used.

Need more service on the beach

I didn't like that the pool bar was closed.

The property itself is really nice. The service is excellent. However, they need to work on their entertainment for it’s a bit antiquated. They are also selling vacation club memberships and because of their approach found it to be annoying.

I have been to many resorts in the DR and this one has been my less favorite. They could have more umbrellas in the pool area. 1 bar to service all in the pool area with limited staffing. Back of the bar should be used as a pool bar which is a missed opportunity. The disco, if you want to call it that is very small and it was very hot in there. AC not working properly. Overall amenities are minimal. The Arcade is not included. They have only 1 shop here. The main dinning area is very hot and could use additional fans. Also limited staffing to service with drinks. The food I can say was good. Only 3 featured restaurants of which on Sunday only 1 is open for service. Room fridge just somewhat cool. AC could be colder. No option to bring ice to room.

One person who stands out of the rest in service and hospitality, Mike you feel welcome and it’s very accommodating is Chimi the sommelier at the winery. Shout out to him ! His great service made a difference. Everyone else was just too indifferent and detached and not caring at all . Facilities is very small and there’s not wait service at the beach area . Also no umbrellas. The only food worthy of eating was at the buffet area . Who has an order gentleman servicing coffee with such gusto and willingness. Shout out to him as well . We were two couples- same experience. Will not return

We came to this hotel after having to leave Gran Ventana. While this was definitely much improvement from that hotel, the cleanliness here is rather lacking. I even thought maybe they don’t have cleaning staff on Sundays when we checked in. The pool was dirty - cups everywhere, hair floating- a lot of hair. The hallway of our building (#11) was strewn with garbage- again hair balls, clothes tags, leaves. It was like that when we arrived and also Monday despite there being a swarm of cleaning staff around. There’s also some broken down water cooler in the first floor that just looks like garbage. Our bathroom was not clean- shower and sink had hair and other debris-maybe shampoo residue? The drawers also had hair and clothes tags, mirror was dirty…beds seemed clean. Buffet restaurant can also use cleaning in between guests, crumbs and sugar packets and generally dirty tables. This though you can tell was because guests had left recently - it didn’t seem caked on. I’ve stayed at Hodelpa properties before and cleanliness is one of the reasons I chose to stay at this property since it’s Hodelpa but this is not what is to be expected from this chain. Please up your cleaning game. Otherwise the property is more modern, the a la carte restaurants are wonderful. Buffet is meh but I think that’s to cater to perhaps a wider range of people with blander palettes, this is a tourist town after all.

Stayed here for 3 nights and was not impressed. The resort is very basic and average. The price made sense once I got there and seen what was offered. The food was not good quality at the buffet and the restaurant Oregano was only slightly better. The wait staff was usually pleasant and were quick to notice you sit down and get your drinks. The drinks were super sugary and very limited. Only 1 local beer option and well liquor for the few mixed drinks they make. The room was average and showed many signs of wear and tear. The sheets had some small stains in places and the glass in the shower was not clean. The floor seemed clean and the a/c worked but the remote was a little touchy. The bed was overall pretty comfortable as were the pillows. It downpoured for the second half of my second day there. The entire resort was flooded and the walkways had 6 inches of standing water on them. Its a beach resort so not the biggest problem except for during this rain a friend staying 1 room over had the ceiling in the bathroom start pouring down water. He called the front desk as well as placed a complaint on their website where you can post issue you are having. No on showed up or called him back. The next day we stopped by the front desk, they said they would get someone over there and still no one showed up. I had no hot water in my room on the 3rd night and another friend I was with that was in a different building had no hot water for 2 days with no help from the front desk.

Staff very friendly. Stayed 3 nights. Enjoyed entertainment on 2 of the nights- live band and silent disco. Didn´t enjoy the other night as I don´t like karaoke. Room- basic but clean, smell in the bathroom of mould/ drains

The hotel was nice the maintenance staff was friendly but need to be trained more on cleanliness and the buffet area the dishes were dirty as well as the cup and utensils disgusting. The hotel should focus on there cleanliness when it come to utensils and cup there are a lot of diseases and it can be transmitted by dirty utensils. The waiters, most were friendly but others were as if they were in a bad mood. Only one stood out for excellent customer service and it was Maria I give the coffee shop a five star

The bathroom was dirty and smelled dirty, it smelled like mold

My solo trip was excellent! Exceeds expectations! My room was clean and had extra water & drinks for me. The food was delicious, so healthy and fresh, drinks were so refreshing. I tried new foods that I’ve never had and I had drinks that were so strong and tasty. The resort was so clean, everyone there was very pleasant and tried teaching me spanish, so grateful for them. I didn’t have to pay for anything extra, and the hotel recommended a taxi driver for me and it worked out perfectly to get there and back from the airport! I felt very safe. Planning my next trip back asap.

This was a last minute booking wanting to get away from snowy weather and my daily routines in the northeast. Emotions by Hodelpa was a great choice because of the all inclusive amenities plus quite good food choices including the main dining area and more exclusive restaurants like Amici (that I thoroughly enjoyed). The staff were always greeting us with ‘Hola’ and answering questions in multiple languages. It was a toned down and relaxing week for my spouse and me. What I truly enjoyed was the private pool (shared only with 4 rooms on the first floor). It was private, clean, and convenient to walk out my sliding glass door and pop into the pool multiple times per day. The location of this resort is about 3 miles to the historic center of town. I took a private tour to get the full story from a local driver. On another occasion, I walked to the Jumbo store (kind of like Walmart) about 2 miles away and then took a taxi back to the resort. The beach is cleaned daily from seaweed and refuse left over from late night parties or brought up from the ocean. Evening entertainment was free and quite fun. Okay, I over-ate but didn’t over-imbibe, not that the temptation wasn’t there. Back to the gym to lose those 5 extra pounds I put on. I’d recommend this place above many of the other choices in Puerto Plata.

The rooms needs renovation

Stayed one night. Property very nice. Rooms ok. Bathrooms need to be updated. Took shower water was cold. Light in bathroom very dim. Didn’t care for the dinner buffet

The room was great; the staff were wonderful and helpful. We appreciated the all inclusive package very much and found joy in walking on the beach

Ac wasn't working they changed me 3 time for the same problem , im not recommended that resort

Staff was very kind. Hotel itself is a little dated, rooms can use some TLC. Food was good.

We arrived at 3:15 for checkin and our room was finally ready at 4:30. The room service (cleaning) was really good. The room was a decent size, however, there were several things broken in the bathroom (shower light, no toilet paper holder, shower doors wouldn't shut, shower head didn't work). We requested maintenance through the APP and never got a response. When mentioned to the guy in blue shirt who is selling timeshares, he told us "stuff breaks"! Speaking of the guys in the dark blue shirts, if you're offered something FREE at the resort, remember there is always a catch, in this case, lets try and sell a timeshare. The food was good, not great. My husband got food poisoning from the fish that is grilled per order in the buffet. He was very sick for 2 days. We stayed away from any food sat near the grill that needed to be cooked per order. The drinks are all full of sugar, except the beer. Even the juices were just sugar drinks, not actual juice. If you want shade, you need to go to the beach (which was great). There were only about 5 umbrellas all together at the pools. There was very limited reservation times to the restaurants. Overall, I would not recommend this property for a vacation to anyone. Look elsewhere.

After reading both positive and less stellar reviews, we were pleasantly surprised. Dinner at the Italian and mexican restaurants were excellent. Staff were, for the most part, excellent. For the price, we found it to be a good value. Our concierge who took care of arrangements on-site fornus was excellent. Only negative was the drink choices included in the package. Overall a 9/10.

the staff and the food was great the hotel administration wasn't great and the check in process suck , wanna to charge extra for a 1:30 early check in. Our ac was broken took for ever to get another room. the beach was nice and the employees , but not worth the almost $300 a nite. my opinion.

I was expecting a good service, but that was the last thing I received. The restaurants were closed only the buffet was open. The employees didn’t do any effort to make us feel that we were on vacation instead they were rude and only 3 of the employees were nice to us. Horrible service overall and I would never recommend anyone that I know to visit that place. A lot other customers felt the same way as I was in the pool 2 ladies came to my and asked me to translate for them that they wanted a drink and the bartender say they need to get out of the pool and come over to the other side if they want a drink. That was terrible to the point that I felt so bad that I got out of the pool and went to get the ladies a drink my self when I wasn’t working there. But i just thought if they were my family I wouldn’t like anyone to have that nasty attitude with my grandparents. I hope someone do something about it. Because I went to guess service and complained and nothing was done. Never coming back!! I don’t go on vacation to be treated like that. That place is over priced (bad service) and charging a lot of money.

Mi estadía en el hotel fue excelente, instalaciones en muy buen estado, limpieza y servicio del personal A+, excepto en el check in tuve una situación que el primer representante que intentó cobrarme US$40 por entrar al hotel a las 2:10pm y preferí esperar 10 minutos a que otro representante me asistiera y me diera entrada. Al cual le comenté lo sucedido anteriormente y me indicó que no era necesario ese cobro US$40 por la hora que era.

Had a fun. The 1st room the AC didn’t really work but we got a room upgrade and had better luck. Staff was great.

What a catfish. 0/10, I was getting married in the area and thought this would be a decent place for my guests to sleep but what a disaster. The rooms are so old, worn and broken down and on top of that 5 rooms that were booked had issues. Mosquito ingestion that they had to call a fumigator for, dirty, broken ac’s. And the service was even worse, they refused to give a pregnant women a new room with a functioning until 9:45pm when we back to complain for a 5th time. Their attitude is unmatched, it’s as if we’re bothering them by being at the hotel. The rudest were one of the guys in the front desk and the girl from guest services. Stay literally anywhere else, I don’t know how these reviews are so high.

This is my 2nd stay at this resort this year and I will be back for sure. The staff goes above and beyond to meet your needs. Rooms are always clean. Food is great and there is always a wide variety. Having access to the beach is so convenient as well. Only little issue is the long wait to check in but they do their very best to get everyone check in quick.

Everything was great, the staff, the view and the area.

Le site n'était pas trop petit. Facile à s'y retrouver. Très propre. Internet partout même sur la plage. Nourriture était correct. Le café shop très prisé. Petit mall tout près, rien d'extraordinaire mais ok. Un marché aux puces à 10 minutes de marche par la plage. La plage très propre. En somme, c'est un beau resort. Nous avons eu un manque d'internet dans notre édifice pour 2 jours mais je partais après. Les activités de soir sont plutôt fait par les clients. On les fait participer à des jeux. J'espérais des spectacles de danse ou chant. Les chambres sont belles, lit confo, douche très moderne, eau chaude tout le temps.

Emotions Puerto Plata is a great beach front property. The staff are friendly and efficient and the food is good. I would not hesitate to stay here in the future.

Nice, clean place.. food is good! Easy access to beach.. definitely good value

The Emotions by Hodelpa is a really good resort. When you get there , you can find a nice parking lot. When you walked through the customer service was number 1 by Manasés ( reception area), after the staffing take the baggage and put them in the cart through your room. The bedrooms were great, clean, great decorations, easy access from there to the beach, lunch, dinner, and breakfast areas, very good swimming pool and a magnificent animation team ( Honey, Lisbeth, and the leader team Malangueta). The food with great quality, drinks reached out to everyone. The Coffee One for coffee lover excellent. They need to improve Casino, better activities in the middle of the week. Thanks Emotions, I will be there very soon.

We had a booking for 20 people. Overall this resort was nice. Everything was close to the rooms, you didn't have to walk too far to get around the property. The food was ok. We were not able to get a reservation to any of the on site restaurants because they were booked our entire stay. The buffet theme changed each night. Our favorite was definitely the Dominican Theme night. The employees were nice and helpful. Would definitely recommend if you are looking for a smaller resort.

Adult area, beach and pool options and closeness

I recommend this property both for its excellent location and for the service they provide. The hotel is very comfortable and all the attractions you are looking for are nearby. I will definitely return.

La comida estuvo muy buena, sin embargo el personal debe ser mas amable o empatico. Cuando hice mi reservación llame para solicitar king y no se me otorgo. El hotel necesita más actividades nocturnas, despues de las 9pm se muere el ambiente. Las habitaciones muy limpias y comodas aunque huele un poco a humedad. El aire y tv se solicitó reparaciones.

Needs better options on food, quietly and peaceful

The room smelled like mold, we had to change twice, the food at the buffet was pretty much the same breakfast lunch and dinner

Overall, the result was okay. The staff is extremely friendly, the food is good however the restaurant “Lolita” was extremely unorganized. Our dinner reservation was for 7:30pm we arrived at 7:36pm, once being seated we were not acknowledged until an hour later (8:42

The rooms and staff were great overall, Solid resort for value. Food was ok at the buffet and the drinks were pretty weak as any other typical resort. There’s no room service at night only “drink service” that takes forever to deliver water, 2.5 hours later. Only food to eat at night is at the snack bar. The 3 restaurants are always booked better book as soon as you can. The beaches don’t have any umbrellas like their neighboring resorts do. Beaches were calm and clean and have services such as pedicure and massages that are better deals than the resorts.
