I have stayed in this hotel a number of times and every time is better than the last. I didn’t give a full 5 star rating this time as the lift was not working. Apart from that everything and everyone was 5 star and I definitely recommend anyone visiting Cheltenham to stay at the Hotel du Vin

Warm welcome from reception on arrival. We parked in the rear car park for £10 extra. The hotel is huge with a warren of corridors. We were a party of 3, myself & my husband and we were travelling with our grown-up son. I had booked two ‘classic’ rooms therefore it was slightly odd to get our rooms only to discover that my son had been allocated the room with the super king bed and we got given a room with a standard double bed! Luckily we swapped. Just something to be aware of! Rooms had recently been decorated to high standard. The beds were super comfy and whilst the bathroom was rather small it ticked all the boxes for what we needed for a one night stay. We had booked an inclusive breakfast rate which offered good value for money. Good continental selection, help yourself, and then a menu was offered with one hot dish per person. The hot breakfast was very nice too. Overall a great stay at a great price.

Typical HDV property so you know what to expect and centrally located Bar/restaurant was a little soulless when we stayed but it was a Monday night. Menu was good and steak special good value Nice rooms but be careful if you don’t like ground floor. We had one of the “best” rooms. But windows faced to the front car park. I would ask higher floor next time

This is a hotel that is relying on former glory. The room was a little tired, although very clean. A lot of the services that Hotel du Vin provided prior to covid haven’t really returned - nothing in the mini bar, for example. The bar closed at 9.45 without any communication from the staff even though we were sitting having a drink.

Comfortable hotel with great ambience. Room was spacious and well-appointed. Staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast was very good. Only issue was paying £10 to park on the road outside the hotel.

The hotel overall was very good, and staff were generally very helpful. Although scope for little improvements. We took a late breakfast for practical reasons and whilst we were down for around 9:30, approaching 10, things were being cleared away and coffee saucers for eg not replenished. The room was spotless and as per photos. Bathroom was exceptional. But the garden and seating area didn’t look at all cared for and the tables were not cleaned for the duration of our visit.

In general a very nice place to stay. We have stayed here several times before. It is a treat to stay at this hotel. However on this particular occasion we experienced a few maintenance issues. We were given a very pretty room but a little later discovered the TV did not work. The team were helpful but could not fix this so suggested moving to another room which we accepted.This room was initially cold but later warmed up. Unfortunately in the new room the kettle did not work so was replaced by the team. It is also worth noting that the hotel lift was not functioning. This remains a very nice place to stay with helpful staff but a little more attention to maintenance issues. The issues we experienced did not make for a relaxing experience and we have never before had any issues at this hotel. We enjoyed the breakfast and good WiFi.

Check in was slow because people were being shown to their rooms and it was not until a young woman came out of a back office that we were welcomed. Unfortunately the lift was not working so as a 78 year old man I had to carry our suitcase up to the second floor. Not good! The room was clean and all that we needed, the bathroom was large with a big shower and very hot water, but it was dark so putting contact lenses in was a challenge. Our stay was on a Saturday and the hotel was being used by family groups and so it was quite noisy in the public areas. There is little parking space and the bays are quite narrow. Dinner and breakfast were fine.

Quick and friendly check in, bedroom spacious and well appointed - including an iron. Bar service and ambiences amass very good , what key it down was the chaotic breakfast with no tables ready, poor service and explanation / greeting. Stay was also let down by building work Banging starting at 9 am on a Sunday !!

Booked a standard room which cost over £200. The room was on the whole clean but the bathroom was i would say not up to standard of what you would expect! The shower screen had mould along the bottom. All taps and plug holes had a build up of scale which was black! Also found three long dark hairs in the bath an the door handle was broken! Have stayed in much nicer hotels and paid less!!

The receptionist was very friendly and helpful. and gave us a warm welcome. The et seemed a little short staffed, and U gad ti ask for my coffee ti be changed ad it was lukewarm due ti a faulty machine. The waiter was very obliging and they then made it by hand which was far better than by machine, The bedroom was clean and comfortable. My only criticism, and thus has happened before, is that the seals un the shower room need to be either cleaned or changed in a regular basis as they are mouldy and therefore not very hygienic. Pkease see picture. The other criticism is no shower cap or body lotion are included in the price if the room which was £220.00 for one nights stay

A lovely hotel situated close to the centre of Cheltenham. The staff were all extremely friendly and welcoming. There was some refurbishment work going on in the hotel but this wasn’t detrimental to our stay in any way with it being well managed. Parking is limited but £10 for on-street parking outside was fair and convenient. The room was well presented and clean. A very enjoyable stay.

Property is looking very tired. Room needs deep clean and refurb. Reception staff on check in and departure very disinterested. No greeting or information, no thanks on departure. Stayed many times in Hotel du Vin but not again.

However, the lighting in the bedroom did not work due to an over loaded dimmer.This has also happened on a previous stay to this hotel The breakfast was disappointing. Firstly cold coffee from the machine. Wrong order delivered, then had to wait for correct order which when served was overcooked, very small, anaemic looking boiled eggs accompanied by cold dried toast. The shower seal in the bathroom needed to be cleaned as there was mould. This was also evident in our last stay in this hotel. What has happened to this place? I have stayed in this hotel several times, but this will be my last. The place is so dirty. Short staffed. I feel bad for the employees. The people who check you in also deliver your luggage, provide room service, and serve at the bar.

The room was lovely, really nice and clean. The staff were fantastic. Especially as they rang me to say I left my EpiPens behind (I didn’t get the message until I was home sadly) but they were super prompt to let me know. On checking in the lady (can’t remember her name) went “oooh I’m meant to be going home, but I can check you in” my friend was being booked in at the same time.
The room was lovely, really nice and clean. The staff were fantastic. The hotel was lovely and the staff were extremely helpful. Booked a junior suite which was well worth it and it was a great room. You won’t be disappointed. Lots of space and very comfortable. Great location too, only 10 minute walk to the shops and restaurants. The restaurant in the hotel was also really good.

Lovely hotel and room. Bathroom window didn’t lock and had access from outside. This was brought up immediately but was not rectified. Service at dinner dreadful but breakfast service really good and all food outstanding. If these issues were addressed, it would have been top marks.

Our room was amazing! A large, beautifully decorated room with his and hers stand-alone baths! And a large walk in shower. Would definitely recommend. We hope to go back.

Stayed here a few times now. Rooms nicely decorated and comfortable. We were upgraded to a better room free of charge which was a lovely surprise. Check in staff member was friendly and efficient. The only negative was the air conditioning temperature it the room could have been colder. The air con unit was struggling with the really warm temperatures and couldn't go any cooler. However, we still slept well so it was fine. Montpellier is a lovely area with lots of restaurants and bars nearby.

Well located but expensive. The “deluxe” room was not. Did not like having a bath in the same area as the bed - it should be in the bathroom - personally I would have preferred a sofa to relax on.

I'm sorry but my experience wasnt a good one. The room ( Villia Maria ) was at the very back and top of the hotel in the attic with slanted ceilings ( I felt hidden away ) and had no working air conditioning..after a very hard day this was not what i needed..an absolute furnace.. The room ( Villia Maria ) was at the very back and top of the hotel in the attic with slanted ceilings ( I felt hidden away ) and had no working air conditioning..after a very hard day this was not what i needed..an absolute furnace.. The decor in this hotel is traditional and very tasteful. The room was a good size. The odd things is that there is a bathtub in the bedroom, in front of the window. Why I don't know as there is a very good sized shower area in the bathroom. There was an expresso machine, and a kettle for tea/coffee, and biscuits and chocolate. Very nice. I only wish the lighting was better, in the bathroom and by a mirror (for applying makeup). Also I wish there had been a sheet --the duvet is nice but in summer it was too much, but there was no light coverlet or sheet. There were many electrical outlets which was much appreciated.

A very disappointing stay, especially having selected this property due to the reviews. The whole time we felt that we were being extracted for money. Upon checking in, there was no mention that the parking was payable until charged £20.00 upon checkout. Ordered two double G&T's at the bar, was charged £30.80! Seems somewhat extravagant. The receptionist mentioned a sustainable programme where they would not clean the room in return for any drink in the bar, only to find out it was limited options. Food and drink that was not ordered by us was placed on our bill. When talking to staff, they all said 'that is the Hotel du Vin way' so I can only assume that it is a regular occurrence. Check-out time was 11am yet the cleaners were banging constantly on the door at 09.20. My suggestion would be to stay elsewhere in Cheltenham which is a real shame because it could have been so good as the location is amazing.

The staff were excellent and the breakfast was excellent. However, the corridors looked a bit tired, needs a repaint and new carpet. My room was very comfortable, and based on staff, food and location I would stay again.

A disappointing stay at HDV Cheltenham due to poor customer service. We were told 24 hours before our stay that, even as residential guests, we couldn’t get a table in the restaurant until late in the evening as it was full. 24 hours later they managed to “fit us in” at 6pm. The restaurant was barely 30% full when we arrived and remained that way until we left around 8pm - so quite why we were told tables weren’t available, I don’t know. They must lose so many bookings through incompetence. The following morning, we were told we didn’t have late check out but could pay £15 for it - even though it was included in the specific package we booked, so I had to go to reception and prove it was included. No apology for their error or disputing that I had it included. So much for a relaxing lie in. Finally, when I checked out, I was presented with a massive bill for a load of drinks that had been charged to my room by guests of the private event that was taking place the night before - even though I was clearly not part of the private event and specifically asked not to have a credit allowance on my account and to pay as I go. Why such a large amount of drinks were even allowed to be added to my room I don’t know and, again, no apology for their mistake. Not the kind of customer service you expect at HDV. More like Fawlty Towers. We wouldn’t stay here again when other better options are available.

This was an overnight stay as part of a proposal. Fortunately she said yes and the stay here was the sugar on top. I generally enjoyed the look and feel of this hotel with the bath in the bedroom and the dark wood or leather finishes that make up the theme. The service was some of the best I have had at a hotel with Millie on reception offering fantastic service and helping us make the stay plesant. We had a minor housekeeping issue that meant that we needed to change rooms, which Hakeem on the night shift took special care to find us a similar room and even one on the same side as quickly as possible. Although ive stayed here before this is the only time we've needed to change rooms and its a testimate to the service they provide how well it was handled. They clearly have a good team and we'll be coming back in the near future, thank you all for making our day that little more special

The room was lovely, really nice and clean. The staff were fantastic. Especially as they rang me to say I left my EpiPens behind (I didn’t get the message until I was home sadly) but they were super prompt to let me know. On checking in the lady (can’t remember her name) went “oooh I’m meant to be going home, but I can check you in” my friend was being booked in at the same time.

Check in was slow because people were being shown to their rooms and it was not until a young woman came out of a back office that we were welcomed. Unfortunately the lift was not working so as a 78 year old man I had to carry our suitcase up to the second floor. Not good! The room was clean and all that we needed, the bathroom was large with a big shower and very hot water, but it was dark so putting contact lenses in was a challenge. Our stay was on a Saturday and the hotel was being used by family groups and so it was quite noisy in the public areas. There is little parking space and the bays are quite narrow. Dinner and breakfast were fine.

Bar service and ambiences amass very good , what key it down was the chaotic breakfast with no tables ready, poor service and explanation / greeting. Stay was also let down by building work Banging starting at 9 am on a Sunday !!

The hotel was lovely and the staff were extremely helpful. Booked a junior suite which was well worth it and it was a great room. You won’t be disappointed. Lots of space and very comfortable. Great location too, only 10 minute walk to the shops and restaurants. The restaurant in the hotel was also really good.

Typical HDV property so you know what to expect and centrally located Bar/restaurant was a little soulless when we stayed but it was a Monday night. Menu was good and steak special good value Nice rooms but be careful if you don’t like ground floor. We had one of the “best” rooms. But windows faced to the front car park. I would ask higher floor next time

Stayed here a few times now. Rooms nicely decorated and comfortable. We were upgraded to a better room free of charge which was a lovely surprise. Check in staff member was friendly and efficient. The only negative was the air conditioning temperature it the room could have been colder. The air con unit was struggling with the really warm temperatures and couldn't go any cooler. However, we still slept well so it was fine. Montpellier is a lovely area with lots of restaurants and bars nearby.

The beautiful hotel is conveniently located in the centre of Cheltenham, close to fabulous shops, cafes and restaurants. The hotel projects a welcoming English country house feel to it with a comfortable bar & lounge area to relax in. We upgraded to a suite that had a huge four poster bed, two huge rain showers and two roll top baths! I would really recommend a stay at this hotel and will be returning again as we were so pleased with it.

The hotel was great with lovely helpful and welcoming staff. Rooms were good. The location is ideal for visiting the town. We were disappointed that, although we booked half board, everything on the menu had either a supplement or additional charge for fries or other usual accompaniments. The menu was limited. We had shnitzel but had to pay £4.95 per portion for fries to accompany it as it only came with leaves etc. In addition to that, there was a service charge of £8.00. Therefore, a charge of £17 extra although we had already paid for half board. I can’t see anywhere on the booking where this was explained. This trip was a gift for our anniversary but the charges left a sour taste. However, I would stay here again but not use the bistro for our evening meal as there are cheaper and better places in town. Breakfast was fine.

However, the lighting in the bedroom did not work due to an over loaded dimmer.This has also happened on a previous stay to this hotel The breakfast was disappointing. Firstly cold coffee from the machine. Wrong order delivered, then had to wait for correct order which when served was overcooked, very small, anaemic looking boiled eggs accompanied by cold dried toast. The shower seal in the bathroom needed to be cleaned as there was mould. This was also evident in our last stay in this hotel. This am a shame, as these points could easily be rectified and really let the hotel down. I mentioned this throughout our one night stay, and to the receptionist on checkout . The receptionist was very pleasant and apologetic and deducted the cost of car parking as compensation. We have stayed at this hotel on numerous occasions over the past 8 years, and do feel that standards have slipped, although prices have risen .

Lovely warm cosy room on a freezing night. Dinner was a bit chaotic. There were two very very noisy large tables of men, one of which had apparently been the since lunch. They were shouting non stop. The staff moved our (well behaved) table of seven to a quieter spot as nobody could hear themselves speak. The staff were very helpful and I felt a bit sorry for them having to deal with such uncivilised behaviour. Unfortunately the kitchen also had its problems as we had to wait well over an hour for our orders of one main each. It was well cooked and presented but most of us had lost interest by 9pm when it arrived. So, nice hotel, warm cosy room, pleasant staff and fellow guests from hell.

I like the style of this hotel and those in the chain. It's modern and roomy. The very best thing by far is the staff. Very efficient and charming, so that any arrangements/requests are carried out perfectly. I would warn guests to book dinners in advance, do not assume availability.

Quick and friendly check in, bedroom spacious and well appointed - including an iron. Bar service and ambiences amass very good , what key it down was the chaotic breakfast with no tables ready, poor service and explanation / greeting. Stay was also let down by building work Banging starting at 9 am on a Sunday !!

A bit of a mixed bag. The hotel is well located for shops, restaurants and the theatre. The staff were pleasant and professional. The room however was well below what we experienced in other group hotels. It was located in an extension at the end of corridors and stairs with no lift. It was small with a very low ceiling - only c 10 centimetres above the door frame - and the plug in the basin did not work. The rooms are named and when we gave it at breakfast the member of staff asked if it was our surname - says it all!

The lady at reception was superb, and all the staff in the bar and restaurant were excellent. The room was perfect. I would not hesitate to book again when in Cheltenham for business.
