I like the traditional feeling of the inn. The room had lots of space and the staff was super friendly and spoke english. Two point i found negative was the fact that to be able to shower you have to reserve a slot in the osen and also you will have to walk uphill from the train station.

Peaceful bliss! Right up in the forest-laden mountains of Hakone, this traditionally modern ryokan should tick every mark you need for relaxation: simple, quiet, and surrounded by nature. The mineralized onsens feel fantastic... so much so, I was melting straight into myself! All the tension from long walks in Tokyo, gone in a sultry soak. You get to pick two bath times too -- one in the evening, one in the morning -- in one of three baths (one indoor, one outdoor, and one I forget). You also pick a time for breakfast, and which breakfast too: an American-style eggs and waffles and sausage (and some other bobbles), or a more traditional Japanese-style bento with cooked salmon, rice, miso, and nine assorted sides. I opted for the latter, and it was *very* tasty & filling! Combined with the very kind staff (who can speak English, if you need), made in all for a phenomenal and much-needed getaway from the hustle and bustle of city streets and crowded alleyways.

Our first ryokan experience and it was amazing. This place is a little remote and it was snowing and raining when we arrived so we decided to stay in and enjoy the relaxing 2 days here. The Japanese breakfast is awesome. If you want to try their dinner, make sure to email and order at least 2 days in advanced, it costs 8800 yen per person but it totally worth every penny. This is all private onsen meaning that you get the whole area for your group. Need to make reservations for onsen as well and we can have 2 onsen per day, each time lasts 50 minutes. The hot springs water is hot so we enjoy the outdoor onsen a lot more even it was snowing. Wish we live nearby so we can enjoy this more often. The staff are super nice and helpful.

大人男女3人で家族で温泉を楽しみに行きましたが貸し切りで時間が決められているため何度も入ることが出来ない上に男女３人だと混浴も出来ないため不便だった。３タイプのお風呂があるので「男」「女」「貸切」にすれば良いのに。サウナは予約時間に電源を入れるため最後まで温まらず炎天下の外にいる方がよほど汗をかく。全く意味のないサウナだった。

The best part of this stay was by far the onsens - there are 3 to choose from and you can reserve 2 at night and 1 in the morning. It was chilly but we loved the hot soaks morning and night. Be sure to reserve early because only one group of guests is allowed at a time. The room is very traditional with floor sleeping arrangements but still clean and comfortable. Nothing fancy, but nice. This hotel is a bit of a hike from the main train station - we got in at night and there were no taxis available so we made the cold and rainy walk 20 minutes uphill to the hotel.

This was a unique experience. The 2 indoor and 1 outdoor onsen were very relaxing. The staff were extremely friendly, polite and helpful. The traditional Japanese food was beautifully presented and tasty. The standard of cleanliness was exceptional. About 25 minutes walk from Gora station if you are dragging heavy cases up the hill! Otherwise about 15 minutes.

The Onsen Resort entrance is located in a small driveway beside the main road, driving in with caution will avoid you from missing the driveway. Stairs exist between the carport and the resort entrance (~50m walking), and most of the rooms in this resort are on the 2nd floor, just take in mind that you will have to move your luggages through stairs. There are 3 Onsen in this resort, and each Onsen will be allocated to respective room guests within respective 50-min time slot, then you got your own private Onsen within that time. The private Onsen is your only way to take the shower as well, as there is no other shower space available in room (there is private toilet). The room is very Japanese styled and sleeping is relaxing after Onsen.

This was one of the best stays I've had recently. The staff were very helpful and went out of their way to make our experience great. We ordered room service and it arrived with a smile and a special treat. The traditional rooms were very clean and were lovely. The hot springs Onsen were great. We had 2 reserved times for our room and enjoyed a private indoor/outdoor experience.

Food was sub-par, then served the same breakfast the 3 days we were there. Dinner was similar situation. Room was very dirty and tiny for 5 of us. Only saving grace was the onsen. Even so, not worth the $1000/night price tag.

We loved our stay at Ajisai! Wonderful and courteous staff. The property was beautiful and well kept. Rooms and onsens were clean and the meal service was excellent. Great for families with kids.

This property was beautiful and the onsens were amazing. We loved that the baths were private so that our children could use them as well. We had dinner at the property and it was delicious and quite a treat. Anyone planning to stay should know that this property is not very walkable. It is not only further away than other properties, it is on a hillside. We utilized taxis a great deal. This property was also not clean. There was mold growing on the walls and bugs (mosquitos?) smashed into the walls.

We enjoyed the dinner and breakfast. The onsen was not super clean but the facilities in general were. It was hard to get there and back without a cab and calling a cab to leave was a challenge. But overall it was a great experience to try a ryokan!

The hotel is small but makes the whole experience more intimate. Nice, super clean, the room was big and comfortable. The staff was great, and the onsen was super nice. And the best part was the dinner. Extraordinary!

Very clean and room was nice, large, and comfy. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Food was great - mix of different things every day for dinner, filling and good. Location is a bit tricky because it is just above a very steep hill - can just call a taxi at Gora (3 min ride and very cheap)

We enjoyed our stay at Ajisai. The rooms and futon were comfortable and staff was nice and accommodating, but for the price I have stayed at far better Ryokan. The images online made the rooms seem bigger and as if we would have our own baths attached to our room. Which is my own fault for not reaching out to clarify. But, personally, I would not have paid the ammount we did if I'd known it was only two tattami rooms and a toilet. Also, my companians were dissapointed in the way that the staff handled a large spider entering our room, as it made the room very difficult to be in, but we sincerely hope that the older man who sprayed an entire raid can into our room is okay as we could hear him coughing from upstairs. Speaking of which, the floors are very thin so if you have the downstairs room you can hear everyone walking in the hall and in their rooms upstairs.

My family had a one-night stay in Hakone on our way from Tokyo to Kyoto, and were interesed in a hot springs and ryokan experience. We opted to stay at Ajisai Onsen Ryokan since it offered that experience while also being near places that we wanted to sightsee in the area. During our stay, our room was incredibly spacious and comfortable, and the hot springs were straightforward to reserve and so relaxing to enjoy for our group. The food was pretty decent and very filling for dinner and breakfast, especially since we knew that dining options were scarce in the evenings where things shut down early in Hakone. The staff were also friendly and helped us with questions that we had. Overall, there seems to be quite a bit of good ryokans in Hakone, and I would recommend this one as one of those options.

Lovely, private Onsen facilities at this humble ryokan. Staff were very nice and helpful and it was very clean. Our traditional room was hard on the back for us since we are not used to sleeping on the floor, lol. Also could have used bigger/more towels. Great location - close to the center of Gora, easy to catch the “Hakone loop” of cable car, ropeway and boat.

Etwa 15 Minuten zu Fuß von der nächsten Bahnstation entfernt. Aufgrund des steilen Geländes empfiehlt sich unter Umständen ein Taxi. Die nahegelegenen Cable-Car-Bahn macht es einfach, den Ort zu erkunden. Sie stellt allerdings spätestens um 18 Uhr den Dienst ein. Auch sonst ist in dem Ort (Gōra) nicht viel los. Der nächste Konbini liegt im Nachbarort. Es gibt nur etwa 5 Gästezimmer wodurch man viel Ruhe hat und gut entspannen kann… vorausgesetzt man hat keine Familie mit Kindern als Nachbar. Die Zimmer sind sehr geräumig, bieten aber kaum Möglichkeiten Kleidungsstücke oder nasse Handtücher aufzuhängen. Man kann morgens und abends jeweils 50 Minuten lang eines von drei Onsen nutzen. What an incredible gem! We had a wonderful and memorable experience. Luggage drop off before check-in and then check-in itself was seamless (we arrived early and we just followed the instructions at the front entrance to label our bags and place inside the doors, and when we came back the bags were already in our room). Staff is very friendly and helpful. We were able to select our onsen times (one evening and one morning bath) at check-in and as they had availability, we were lucky and were able to do a third one! The facilities themselves are great! All the onsens were fantastic, and it's nice they are all private. Highly recommend the traditional dinner option, it was delicious, well worth it, and a highlight of our trip. The breakfast was lovely. Definitely our favourite stay and would love to come back again! P.s- if getting off at Gora station, yep that is one steep hill to climb to the ryokan! We had carry-on size backpacks and I'm still happy we took the cable car two stops further as per the instructions we received from the ryokan even though it was busy and a bit of a wait (or with more luggage the taxi is likely we'll worth it. It's really not that far, 15ish min, but quite the hill!). The ryokan was also very prompt in responding to my messages prior to arrival, and that was much appreciated. I have visited this ryokan before in a past trip and had a wonderful stay with family, so I had a chance to come back again with friends. As usual, the staff was very professional and accommodating. The onsen was still the highlight and great as I remembered, and the on-site provided dinner and breakfast was incredibly delicious. Strong recommendation when coming to Hakone.

I had the most relaxing and healing stay at Ajisai. It is in a beautiful quiet setting and the hot springs are fantastic. The staff was incredibly helpful and even helped me retrieve a lost item. The dinner was very memorable and totally worth it - traditional Japanese food that was quite delicious. I will visit here again someday!

The staff was wonderful. Kind, eager to help and make sure guests were taken care of. We had a wonderful dinner and equally excellent breakfast. It’s a small quiet place out of the way, and it felt private and peaceful. The onsen reservation system was simple and we got lucky to get multiple chances to try indoors and outdoors. We had a great experience.

Great hot spas (there are 2 inside and also outdoor) and nice Japanese style room, with all the amenities. The staff is super nice and friendly, they even gave us a ride to the station, because taxi service was not available. Well worth the experience!

Stayed a night at Ajisai Onsen Ryokan and it was a great and comfortable stay. The staff was helpful and nice and allowed us to leave our luggage at the facility before the check in time at 4pm. It came with 3 types of private Onsen which has to be booked beforehand for an hour use in the evening and in the morning. Breakfast set was good too. Lily was helpful throughout our stay. Highly recommended. Do take notes it’s a steep climb up to the location and it will be difficult with a lot of luggage.

Unparalleled hospitality at this small onsen ryokan. The staff was beyond helpful in preparing for our trip, with thorough explanation regarding arrival and excellent communication. They were super flexible about holding bags before check in and after check out while we explored. The inn is a little tucked away from main restaurants and shops but taxi was easy and cheap and we could walk to the really delightful gora garden and craft house. They prepared a delicious multi course dinner accommodating a food allergy to gluten, a vegetarian, and teen dietary preferences and an interesting and generous traditional breakfast for our family. The dinner was the best meal we had in two weeks in Japan! The onsen facilities were so clean and it was a delightful experience. It was easy to sign up for private time for our group in both the evening and morning in both the indoor and outdoor onsen. Beds were really comfortable (best in our two weeks!) with nice in room amenities including flower tea. This was such a wonderful experience. We would feel fortunate to return!

Google maps made this place very hard to find. It’s way up a steep hill and not an easy walk so don’t plan on walking there. It’s a very difficult 20 min walk. Call a cab. Breakfast is not that great and is kind of expensive. Hot mineral springs are nice and are booked by the hour for each room so they are private. Staff is very nice.

This property was beautiful and the onsens were amazing. We loved that the baths were private so that our children could use them as well. We had dinner at the property and it was delicious and quite a treat. Anyone planning to stay should know that this property is not very walkable. It is not only further away than other properties, it is on a hillside. We utilized taxis a great deal. This property was also not clean. There was mold growing on the walls and bugs (mosquitos?) smashed into the walls.

This is a small, charming onsen hotel with three separate bathing areas. Don’t expect it to be very modern, but the staff are truly exceptional and will go out of their way to make sure your stay is pleasant. Short walk to the cable car stop and easy access to Gora trains. I wish I’d stayed longer.

The Onsen were wonderful. And on the whole, this ryokan felt very nice. However, we would NOT recommend eating there. The dinner was very expensive and very poor quality. The tempura was old and had been cooked 2 or 3 days ago. Each dish was pretty vile. Also there was a family in the room above ours with extremely noisy children and we could hear everything. Other than that, it was a lovely place

良かった点: ・3種類の温泉。露天風呂。露天+内風呂。内風呂+簡易サウナ。すべて貸切。夜と朝50分ずつ確約だが空いていればスタッフが案内してくれる。結局家族で3種すべて一緒に入れた。泉質がとても良くすぐにお肌がもちもちスベスベになった。おもちゃもあり子供も飽きずに入れた。 ・夕食の牛肉。柔らかくボリューミー。 ・朝食。9品の小鉢。ご飯にお味噌汁。焼鮭。 イマイチな点: ・夕食。牛肉に予算を振っているのか他は微妙。所謂お造りではなくスーパーのお刺身レベル。牡蠣のホワイトソースチーズ焼きはがっかりするくらい身が小ぶり。茶碗蒸しは出汁が効いてない。おそらく日本料理に精通していない料理人なのだと思う。朝食は味がちゃんとしていたので外部から仕入れているのでは。 まとめると温泉◎で料理は△。子供たちが楽しんでたので良し。小さいうちは良いけど大きくなってからはリピートは難しいかも？料理さえ美味しくなる事を願ってます！

We absolutely enjoyed our stay!! The staff was so amazing and helpful, even when we were delayed on arrival. The private onsens were so relaxing and incredibly well-maintained given that they are outdoors! The traditional dinner was fun for our family and we really appreciated the small, relaxed atmosphere after arriving from the busy city. The traditional room was incredibly spacious and the tatami mats were actually quite comfortable and something our kids will remember forever. Highly recommended!
