For those searching for a basic hotel in a great location, this property may be for you. Basic accommodations and rooms, that are generally well-kept for an older hotel. They do lack drawer space for clothes, although they do have a decent sized closet for hanging clothes. The staff do a great job keeping the rooms and balance of the hotel property clean and tidy. The on-site restaurant serves a wide range of breakfast, lunch, and dinner options. It's a little spendy for certain selections, but the food overall is good if you prefer to stay on the property. The hotel features a couple of swimming pools with the main infinity pool right in the main beach lounger area facing the ocean. The pool can get a bit busy, especially on weekends when occupancy goes up. The hotel is located in Zihuatanejo Bay on Playa la Ropa. It's a great walking beach and generally safe to wade into and swim in. The waves and under tow aren't too crazy like other beaches. You can walk to a number of restaurants within 10 minutes of the resort and there a ton of great restaurants in downtown Zihuatanejo, but the walk is a bit challenging because of the hilly terrain.

The service was good and the staff was responsive. Although the towels were clean they were stained and frayed. They ran out of beach towels. The television remote was old and the television was not working well. The hotel seemed old and out dated . The pools were a lot smaller than they looked in the pictures. We ended purchasing day passes at the hotel next door.

Right on the beach! Clean room & linens. Hotel pool is nice, very busy & lots of lounge chairs to choose from, but they do get full. Hotel is older but in good repair. Noisy a/c compressors outside that rumble a bit in the room, but they work just fine. Suggest earplugs to sleep soundly. Staff is pleasant, food just ok, lots of other dining options nearby. Nice sunsets!

Good: You cannot beat the location in front of the most beautiful beach of Zihuatanejo. The rooms are clean and great bkfast restaurant. Bad: Personnel is rude, lacking understanding of a minimum customer service. They lack enforcement of rules and let guests do whatever they want which affects others. No place to enjoy the beach as all of the chairs are reserved by guests with towels.

Rented 4 rooms ac in all the rooms barely blew cold air, tried getting them to fix it but wasn’t any better. One room had roaches, and wasn’t to clean. Front desk charges fees for any little thing. Property is in a great location by a nice beach but I’d rather stay somewhere else next time

Rooms are clean, well appointed! Right on the beach is why we stay here every year. The restaurant is wonderful! (Try the chile rellenos) but the best part of this place are the employees.

We enjoyed our stay at the Villa Mexicana very much. It is a beautiful beachfront property. Very clean, friendly staff, the first hotel where we met people who, have been coming back regularly for 20 or 30 years!

Great location, room was OK. There was no real water pressure in the shower and the shower stall itself was disgusting. It looked like it was never cleaned as you could see the layer of soap residue everywhere. Definitely use your sandals when taking a shower. I most likely will not return to this hotel.

Rooms were clean and well maintained. The staff was helpful and friendly. The restaurant chef does amazing work with the menu. The beds were a bit firm. They should add some memory foam. The pillows were lumpy and too firm. They need to be replaced. Having said that, we loved the place and we intend to come back next year.

Checking in we got a room we were not happy with. Hotel was full but they moved us the following day. Our room was kept spotless by housekeeping. Staff was friendly and very helpful especially our favorite waiter Francisco. Security insured that nobody came on the property that shouldn’t be there. The only negative was people would reserve their chairs and not come to the beach for hours. We would walk early and all the chairs would have towels on them but nobody in them till much later in the day. The hotel states no reserving however they do nothing to inforce it. Security is there in the morning they should tell people no reserving especially big groups who would take up a lot of chairs. All the staff work very hard there so if you go please tip them generously!

Unfortunately lacking accommodation. Requested when booking for a first floor room, provided documentation of the request, and was declined. The ladies at the front desk are service oriented. The man at the front desk is rude, flippant , perhaps should consider moving to non-client facing position.

We had gone down to Mexico for a wedding. After the wedding we were going to stay with family and friends for a couple of days at or very near the Villa Mexicana. When we arrived we found that the hotel was overbooked and they offered to put us up in their other hotel, Hotel Irma. They did offer to upgrade us to ocean view (we could see a bit of it from our room), include breakfast, and transport us between the hotels at their expense. The cost between the two hotels (including the upgrades) was pretty much a wash. However, being that far away from our family and friends took all the spontaneity of our short stay there and the inconvenience and time wasted at check-in and travelling between the two hotels left us very bitter. The only reason I didn't give a 1 star rating was because the staff at breakfast were very nice. As a side note, one of the couples we were with did actually get a room at the Villa Mexicana. However, they had arranged for early check-in but were kept waiting at the reception area for 3 hours before they got their room. I understand that sometimes there are unforeseen problems, but the problems we encountered were made by the hotel.

I love this villa I have been there several times already, is quiet, friendly staff and very very clean. The beach is calm and steps away from villa. This last time we check in after 3, only 1 out of 3 rooms were available, we got the keys about 2 hrs later. I understand this may have been an isolated situation, I am planning to go back. Great place to stay

They provide beach towels (make sure you hang on to them to return at the end of your stay), and water coolers are throughout the property. Multiple restaurants are within walking distance. I highly recommend this restaurant and hope to be back!

We just returned home from spending a week at the Villa Mexicana and we loved our stay. Super location on La Ropa Beach. Nice for beach walking, ocean swimming, or a wonderful circular pool which sits just off the on the beach. . Plenty of lounge chairs with lots of shade, attentive staff, nice restaurant with great views and a wonderful menu. Just about anywhere you sit you have an amazing view. Cabs just up the street will happily take you into downtown/pier area for lots of shopping or plenty of Restaurants but we honestly loved it so much we found it difficult to leave. Great find, can’t wait to go back!

You can’t beat Villa Mexicana’s location- steps to the beach-easy walking to a variety of on beach restaurants too. The staff is professional, helpful and extremely personable! Our 7th visit!

The hotel is right on La Ropa beach! Cannot beat the location. Rooms and grounds were very clean. Staff was friendly and helpful. Would definitely stay again.

Wonderful five nights at Villa Mexicana. Very basic but clean, functional and right on the beach at LaRopa. We had a great time and would return.

For those searching for a basic hotel in a great location, this property may be for you. Basic accommodations and rooms, that are generally well-kept for an older hotel. They do lack drawer space for clothes, although they do have a decent sized closet for hanging clothes. The staff do a great job keeping the rooms and balance of the hotel property clean and tidy. The on-site restaurant serves a wide range of breakfast, lunch, and dinner options. It's a little spendy for certain selections, but the food overall is good if you prefer to stay on the property. The hotel features a couple of swimming pools with the main infinity pool right in the main beach lounger area facing the ocean. The pool can get a bit busy, especially on weekends when occupancy goes up. The hotel is located in Zihuatanejo Bay on Playa la Ropa. It's a great walking beach and generally safe to wade into and swim in. The waves and under tow aren't too crazy like other beaches. You can walk to a number of restaurants within 10 minutes of the resort and there a ton of great restaurants in downtown Zihuatanejo, but the walk is a bit challenging because of the hilly terrain.

Beautiful well maintained property. Tanya at the front desk very helpful and proffessional All maintentance staff friendly. Food in the restaurant good for breakfast, overcooked for supper and more expensive than surrounding places. especially beer and alcohol. Only recommendation would be have a mini fridge in the rooms. And expedia shouldn't promise king size beds with ocean views they have only five on site. .

Incredible ocean view, friendly staff. Unfortunately bar doesn’t open until noon, so you have go searching for a mimosa or bloody after breakfast. Limited selection of beer.

Rooms are clean, well appointed! Right on the beach is why we stay here every year. The restaurant is wonderful! (Try the chile rellenos) but the best part of this place are the employees.

I enjoyed that this property is located right in the beautiful beach of La Ropa! The workers are very attentive of fixing issues when they occur. The front desk staff are extremely helpful!! . Also the restaurant on site is superb. The only drawback is that the restaurant opens at 8am. The hotel should have a coffee machine accessible at 6am for guests.

For the price it is not worth it. The staff is very unhelpful, limited options at the restaurant for dinner if you are vegetarian, they let all the people put out their towels and save chairs at 8am even though they arent there so there are none left for anyone, even though all of them just have a towel on it.

This place is quiet to relax, having access to the beach is great. The waves are calm and children can have fun and play in the waves. The hotel is an old but acceptable structure. Every night we enjoy the beautiful sunset! The staff was very friendly and helped us in every way possible. Breakfast and whiting were perfect. All the rest of the food is acceptable. WHAT NEEDS TO BE IMPROVED IS TO HAVE MORE VARIETY IN BEER. THEY HAVE ONLY ONE TYPE. THEY ALSO NEED NEW TOWELS, THEY ARE VERY OLD! FOR 2 DAYS OF 3 OF OUR STAY THEY DID NOT HAVE BEACH TOWELS AND THE HOTEL WAS NOT FULL TO ITS CAPACITY. ALSO, IN OUR ROOM THE TOWELS WERE VERY OLD AND STAINED. We had an amazing stay! Off season, very hot and humid. Room ac thankfully. Spent most of our day playing in the ocean or pool and sitting under the palapas. Staff was wonderful. Breakfast at the restaurant was excellent. Loved sipping on margaritas in the afternoon and evening. Rooms were clean and comfortable. Highly recommend!

I first booked through Expedia and got an excellent deal. I wanted to extend my stay, I did but was more expensive. I liked the location of the hotel and the room I got, so I paid the extra. The problem when making reservations, you do not know what room you will get. The rooms on ground level might have great access to beach and pool, but most rooms are not private al all. When in the room you would need to draw your curtains. The first-floor rooms are a gamble, you might get a patio but if you do not, there is no privacy at all if you have a room facing the hallway. The staff is wonderful and make you feel at home. Breakfast included many options; If I go back, I will get the package, it is great. The rooms are basic but more than enough, do not expect luxury, only clean and comfortable with easy access to the beach. EVERY member of the staff is GREAT!
