We enjoyed our stay this weekend. Friendly efficient staff, comfortable room, great pool and lovely breakfast. The only complaint would be we booked a room for 2 adults and 2 kids - so they had a sofa bed to sleep on - it was really uncomfortable so they kept fidgeting around- very creaky and so none of slept really. Be good to upgrade those or put two double beds in. It didn’t spoil the stay.

We stayed for 2 nights for a family get together. The hotel def needs some TLC. Our room was clean, so no issues there, but the public areas were very 'shabby'. The toilets near the swimming pool and conference rooms were poor. There was no soap, and many of the taps were not working. The biggest issue is breakfast on a Saturday/Sunday as the dining room cant cope with the number of guests in terms of seating, so there was a long queue waiting for tables and once inside, we encountered further queues waiting for food to be brought out. There was also a lack of dishes available or cereals/fruit. My husband and son were also disappointed with the beer. It was flat and the taste wasn't the best. Overall, the hotel was OK for the two nights, but I wouldn't stay again.

My reccomendation is, Do not book this hotel SPA is miss advertised. They do not have a spa person or area. Steam room and sauna are not working properly. Jacuzzi hasn't been working for 8 months not sure if it is yet Facilities are dirty and old and broken. Just look for yourseves. Staff not acknowledging any complaints neither are they within there own 48hr SLA. Customer service at hotel and remote don't respond and ignore. We checked out with a long line of complaints in front of us. Hotel staff were refunding car park to get rid of customers rather than delayed with issues reported. They advise they can't do anything to help yet they don't help remotely. Still not heard back now from customer service been two weeks since raising complaint. As Expedia keep asking for me to review I will. :) Breakfast is a total joke quality and price. £16.95 Just walk up road to small local places much cheaper and much better. £7 for a pint at bar. My advice book the ibis. Half the price and brand new. Go to an actual spa, pool etc as this place is not what's advertised. I would rate this a 2.5 star hotel. I spend most my time in hotels and I couldn't believe how bad this Is for the price.

I enjoyed an early swim noting a reasonable sized pool and that the cleanliness was good. I was able to use the jacuzzi, steam and sauna room also available. All staff were friendly and helpful. The bedroom was good and bathroom although the temperature was quite warm. Tried to alter it but with no luck.

Breakfast very good, lots of variety, good alternative options, nice environment to eat in. Dinner very good value, mostly tasty. Service by front of house at dinner - exceptional, lovely manner and very attentive, fast service. Pool and Spa facilities okay, but could be improved aesthetically with mood lighting & music to enhance relaxing atmosphere. Jacuzzi too cold and on switch too far away, changing room floor needed cleaning. Premium room seemed very similar to standard room. Mistake made with my booking which was easily corrected, however, was still given a double instead of twin room. Bed a bit too firm and could still hear outside noise from top floor. Lovely views though across Southsea and Solent. Shower good although inside a bath. Room facilities good with complementary snacks & drinks in premium room. Very friendly front desk and spa staff. Bar and dining area nice and well kept - modern. Overall comfortable stay in nice location with very close to bus stops into Portsmouth Town and walking distance to beach and Southsea Common.

It was a lovely stay! Bed was comfortable, the room was spotless and the food was good. The pool, sauna, steam room and whirlpool were enjoyable but a few tiles were missing in the pool itself. The hotel was in a good area where most places of interest were walkable. Staff were very helpful too!

A lovely stay in a huge family room! Room very clean. A double bed and a pull out sofa bed. Complimentary tea, coffee, water, 2 cans of pop, biscuits and a Kit Kat. Shampoo, conditioner, shower gel all in the room. Clean pool and gym. Towels provided. Car parking £5, free for disabled. Everything you want for your stay.

We have stayed at the Holiday Inn, Portsmouth for many many years as its at a good location and has comfortable rooms. The service is good but weve noticed a determination in the fixtures and fittings over the padt couple of years. This trip in December 2024, the deterioration has got worse with tired looking rooms worn and dirty carpets and bathrooms in need of a refresh. The whole hotel really needs a full refurbishment. Just looking out of the windows, the window sills are dirty and covered in a green slime. However, the reception staff are always nice and courteous. Come on IHG spend some money and give this lovely hotel a makeover.....but that costs money doesn't it!

We arrived to find the room we were in stank of mildrew, to the point it quickly made you feel ill. We tried to open the window to level allowed by safety clips but realised quickly the windows had been screwed shut by now rusty nails (we assume from the damp). The AC was also not working and the bed was in no way a standard double. After speaking to reception about issues and possibilty of other rooms we were told to wait in our room and wait for a call. An hour later we gave up and decided to leave. We were able to get refund for parking but not room as we booked through hotel.com. As an aside from the hotel itself. Never book through hotels.com. I now spend my days trying to get a refund from them

The room had debris on the floor and one of the beds had a few hairs in it. We told reception when we were on our way out and they were very apologetic and changed our room - it was an upgrade. The new room was clean and there were no hairs in the bed! Unfortunately there was no hot water in the morning. We paid for parking but there were no spaces in the carpark when we arrived, however the hotel gave us a permit to use on the road. The hotel was conveniently located for the quays and was about a 10 minute walk.

Everything was just ok. Some places were sub par particularly breakfast with many plates and mugs stained and dirty from poor dishwashing. These could have been removed from Circulation if a simple inspection is done on cricket when it comes out of the dishwasher. Staff were helpful and friendly.

The hotel is in a good location and I found it to be spotless. The housekeeping staff were cheerful and friendly. Unfortunately I can't say the same for reception. They were so unwelcoming it made me feel really uncomfortable. They gave my daughter a key to someone else's room. The restaurant was chaotic. We ordered dinner one night. My husband's dinner was nice but my meal failed to arrive despite being asked a couple of times. They did refund the charge.

Holiday inn express portsmouth The bed linen was a disaster, dried blood stains on the matress cover. Yes, dried blood stains. The bathroom towels had the same issue. We spoke to the front desk who stated its cleaned outside but the person making the bed should have seen it. Not good

The room was clean. It had a weird smell though and was small, as was the bathroom. My TV was not working. I booked this hotel for the parking and jacuzzi. The parking was hard to find. There were no spaces so I had to create one next to the linen 'bins'. The jacuzzi was out of order. Definitely felt more like a 3* star hotel. Premier Inn rooms are bigger. Staff were friendly though.

The gentleman who checked me in was very polite and helpful. My room was quiet, clean and spacious, and overall I was very pleased with my stay. The only downside was the toiletries, which were vegetable fragrances like 'Parsley Stalk' and 'Broccoli', and weren't really to my taste. It would have been nice to be able to get sweet snacks in the bar like cookes or small cakes to go with tea or coffee.

The hotel is in an excellent location for visiting Old Portsmouth, Portsmouth and Southsea. The breakfast is ok, better than many places. The rooms however are very small, the bathrooms are tiny - we stayed in a premium room , I am not sure it would be legally possible for the other rooms to be smaller. At breakfast they managed to run out of regular tea bags.. how is that possible? In the bar they had no glasses for short drinks! The staff were never apologetic about the short comings. When we were unable to release the water from the shower/bath tub in the evening, we were told that we would need to wait till the morning to get it fixed, which would have meant that we were unable to use the shower during the heatwave! Again the staff are all reticent to apologise. The coffee machine (nice touch) did not work in either of the rooms we used. There was no toilet brush or shaving mirror. The phone’s in the room have the appearance of working but in fact they do not connect to reception! Why are they still there? Why in such tiny bathrooms do they insist on having baths (I am sure there must be a reason!) In summary a hotel in a great location with reasonable facilities, tiny rooms and inexplicable supply problems and a sense that a lot of the staff (not all of them obviously) just do not care.

Room was clean but compact. The mattress was torn with the stuffing coming out. At check in we were told there was a large group in the restaurant at 6pm and was advised to wait until 7pm. As there were only two of us and we don’t like to eat late, we went to the restaurant at 6pm to be told it was closed to general guests until 8:30pm. Fortunately the restaurant greeter was helpful and found us a table in the bar by removing a reserved sign. Also told it was going to be the same the following so we ate out. On site car parking is very limited.

There was a VERY long line to check in and the staff seemed overwhelmed. The staff member that checked us in gave no greeting but was very quick to get our key, she did not mention that the room’s a/c was not functioning and that a fan would be provided. We met another couple in the lift that explained all air conditioning was broken on our floor. It was brutally hot in the room. The fan did not come close to producing a level of comfort . We only had 1 night stay- thankfully. After we checked out and were in the shuttle, we found out that some of the rooms were given a discount for the inconvenience. We were not offered that. I guess we needed to be more aggressive in complaining.

We stayed at this hotel for 4 nights with our grandson. Reception staff were very friendly and helpful. Check in was swift and efficient. We had an issue to do with housekeeping during our stay that took a couple of days to be dealt with and we had to chase twice with reception before it was resolved. At times service was very slow in the restaurant and the children's menu really would benefit from more healthy options instead of the usual meals that only come with chips! But children do eat free so I guess one balances out the other. The food was presented well and tasted good however and breakfast was great. The hotel pool was excellent, no booking required and the location of the hotel to the sea front and dockyard was ideal for our stay.

The staff here are wonderful, all polite and so helpful, just not enough of them. Our waiter in the restaurant one night was also the barman in the main hotel bar. The bed has to be the worst I have ever had. Spent most of each night stopping myself from not falling out of it as the mattress was not fit for purpose. last night, one of us slept in the chair most of the night. The room was clean and had everything. As usual the hot tub wasn't working all weekend, never find one that does nowadays

Ideal location for portsmouth and southsea even the isle of wight with the hovercraft. Good food, and leisure facilities with the pool and sauna, Enjoyable stay would recommend it. and certainly return.

We chose this hotel for its location to the ferry terminal & being dog friendly. Our room was very good with a view overlooking the sea, breakfast is buffet style & very good quality. If you have a dog, the hotel is close to some easily accessible green space & a very handy fenced in dog training area.

Staff were excellent. Arrangements for vegans were limited despite prior warning and promises that oat milk would be provided etc Room was only noisy because there was a thick fog in the morning after our stay and the various ships leaving the harbour were blasting on their sirens. Pool was well-managed. Arrangements to use gym and pool were good. Breakfast was good for non-vegans.

Good room, good parking, good location. Experience very comfortable until we went to the dining room: Not enough staff at dinner and we waited ONE HOUR for our meal! The same at breakfast; very few staff. Then there was NO sausages, no marmalade, no jugs for milk... terrible for £16.99. We have stayed here before but this is the first time we were disappointed - only in the dining room.

The swim area needs updating and the breakfast was terrible there was nothing left when we arrived and the staff only brought out a few bits of bacon. We gave up in the end and left. The room was nice though

Have stayed here a few times. Good reasonably quiet hotel. Room very satisfactory. Dining room good but menu could do with updating. Breakfast. No overall impressed. Eggs dry and left to sit too long. Tables need clearing more often. (Retired caterer)

Check in fine room ok en suite very small no full length mirror and only bathroom suitable for doing hair and makeup. Wanted a lite snack in the evening had to wait 30 minutes to be told the one item ordered was unavailable a substitute arrived 55 minutes after initial order with cold chips and tepid soup very poor and disappointing.
