The hotel is a lot better condition from the last time l stopped here before covid lock down! There was no parking available at the hotel so stopped at NCP car park across the street which costed £10 per night (with the discount from hotel) paying for parking is slightly disappointing because other hotels in Portsmouth which l normally stop at don’t charge.

I liked the swimming pool and facilities.

I love staying at the RMC and do so frequently. The staff are brilliant first and foremost and that is whatever their role, and the facilities are great. There is nothing not to like. Thank you.

Good to have a pool/ sauna but only available to residents after 3pm

Easy check in and we managed to get a space parked outside. Room was a good size with a comfy bed, TV, tea and coffee making facilities, and a good size bathroom, with a few toiletries. Breakfast had plenty of food to choose from and they provided vege sausage and boiled eggs when we asked for them. Pool was a bonus. It was small and very warm, but nice to relax in. Collect and sign for towels and key to the pool at reception. Jacuzzi wasnt working. Less than 10 mins walk to Gunwharf Quay and the historic dockyard, 5 mins walk to the train station, and about 15 mins walk to the centre of town.

Booked this for husband because of pool and spa. Otherwise would have done premier inn nearby. Pool filthy, changing room disgusting, hot tub not working, pool cold and sauna the worst we’ve been in. Paid £50 above for this…. So disappointed

I didn’t have breakfast but I really enjoyed my stay there. There are a good amount of facilities there I enjoyed the pool and sauna it’s a £1 to use the locker I managed to use my trolley token for the lockers

Location is excellent, minutes from the Historic Dockyard, with HMS History and the Mary Rose exhibition, also minutes from Gunwarf Quays for quality shopping. For getting around Portsmouth and Southsea there is the bus station. As for the hotel, it has a pool though small was useful, as was the infra red sauna. Breakfast is excellent in both quality and value, and the staff are engaging and very friendly!

Wonderful old seaman's and veteran's hotel/home. Well equipped; launderette, library, pool, free parking, excellent breakfast.

Uncomfortable bed and the sheets kept coming off mattress. Our room was at the back of the building in a dark corridor accessed only via a number of twists and turns down other corridors. The ceiling was peeling, the carpet stained and the room overall very tired.

I stayed at the royal maritimime hotel for 2 nights and the room was very comfortable,the bathroom was lovely and big and there was daily housekeeping. Only downside is I noticed after the housekeeping had been, in the shower the small bottle of shower gel was still on the floor in the shower so I don't think the shower had got done but that is my only criticism. I had breakfast on my first day and there was good choice and it was nice and hot , I choose to have breakfast in town on my 2nd day as I had gone for room only and if you wanted to add breakfast on it's £15.95 if you add it at time of booking it's alot cheaper. I used the bar once on my visit and the lady in the bar was very friendly. The lady's on reception was also very friendly but I had a lovely chat with the lady in the bar I would definitely stay here again next time I'm in Portsmouth as it's only a short walk from the shopping centre and bars restaurants and train station . I walked back on my own from the cinema after midnight on my first night and felt very safe.

Bren visiting for many years todays breakfast was poor, room dusty so it triggered a cough i yhoihgt i was over decor flaking

Very good place to stay if you're spending time at Portsmouth Historic Dockyard. Its seafaring connections are clear as soon as you go in. There's some parking on site and the breakfast is averagely good for this sort of hotel. Congratulations to the cleaning team - very clean throughout.

Royal Maritime Hotel is adequate in all respects, although I think overpriced in relation to the condition of the interior in the area where my room was. The hotel is need of updating, and things like the location of plug sockets, and the lack of USB sockets for charging telephones &c needs to be thought about. The food at breakfast was a bit like a boarding school breakfast or the junior rates mess in the 1980s, so that could benefit from some modern thinking. The staff were very kind, and welcoming. The parking provision is very limited. The wallpaper in the room I used was peeling off at the edges. The mid-beige colour made the room look very dismal. There was no way to control the temperature of the room other than open or close the window. The carpets and soft furnishings are grubby. There is no guide to the hotel facilities either in hard copy in the room or on the hotel's website. There is a small plunge pool, but no indication of when it is open, for example. The Library is a really nice feature, and seems to be a good hub to access charitable services for former sailors and Royal Marines. The area around the hotel is grotty, and the steps to the hotel were littered with cigarettes which I find disgusting, and reflects poorly on the attitudes I can expect to find within an establishment. I would consider using this hotel again if there was a good deal on the pirce, but not at full price.

Very clean

Two nights during a mini heatwave. Room and bathroom was spotless. Very warm room, but a fan was provided. Decor was good and very interesting with the Royal Navy at the forefront. Would definitely stay again.

Great hotel, despite having lived her thought-out my teenage years I didn't know what the Royal Maritime Club was... now I'll be telling everyone about it! Loved my stay and so happy to read about its history. Like taking a step back in time without the musty smell or lack of cleaning standards. Couldn't fault the cleanliness of both my room and the vast building

Budget usually means no frills and basic .. NOT .. wallpaper peeling off walls, filthy marks all over walls, taps that were worn through chrome to be more brassy looking, paintwork chipped very extensively, no blinds or curtains in bathroom window with buildings directly opposite!! Really very disappointed. Very very scruffy room!!

We had a 3 night sightseeing visit to Portsmouth and had stayed in this hotel earlier in the year. It’s in a great location for seeing everything whilst not having to use the car which was left parked in the hotel car park. This time we stayed in the West Wing which was ok: clean, enough space but looked dated and a bit tired. Nevertheless we would stay again but ask for a room not in the West Wing.

Looked very grand when entering. Lobby was fine, Bar was fine, Reception was ok. We was told we had a room upgrade so was quite happy. We took the lift to the 3rd floor and when the doors opened we were in shock. We had entered a 70s nightmare. The corridor was painted white over the old wallpaper, the walls had lines of conduit running everywhere, the room doors had seen better days. It was awful. We checked out each floor and they were all the same. Our room was newly painted but not finished nicely. The bathroom had been forgotten though with a lovely strip of hazard tape for a threshold and the room was cold. Can't fault the cleanliness though!! The food in the restaurant was good too and staff were friendly. A disappointing stay. I don't think we'll be back.

Nice Place Good Restaurant and Bar both competitively priced. Biggest problem 1st Floor South facing Room on to large flat roof was extremely hot impossible to stay in the room during the day cooled abit in the evening with fan on and window wide open must be impossible to sleep in the Summer.

Nice hotel but could do with a Revamp in the bedrooms

All good except air conditioning is now a necessity. It’s very uncomfortable when it’s warm outside.

Very good, things that would have improved it: a safe in the room especially with the window opening on to the flat roof. A/C in the room would have been good considering the exceptional hot weather

Room was spacious and warm, very old decor and furnishings. Bed and pillows need replaced, carpet worn away, tv very very small. Grubby around skirting and tiles. Friendly enough reception and main hotel areas clean. Good location for dockyard and train station.

My room was in the West Wing, and it is definitely an older section of the hotel. My room was in need of updating, and I know a room in the same wing but on a higher floor had definitely been renovated. My room was fine, but it definitely needed work as the wallpaper was peeling on the edges. I would 100% stay here again, but it would be nice to have the rooms be more consistently decorated.

Room was ok, TV a bit on the small side, Bathroom was surprisingly good for a 3 star hotel. Only complaint was the paper thin walls. Could hear everything!

Absolutely amazing hotel, full of history, has a library full of maritime genre books and plenty of comfy areas to sit and relax. Staff were amazing and breakfast was fabulous. Full availability on cooked and continental breakfast. Rooms were lovely and had what we needed. Hotel is within easy walking distance of the dockyard, shopping and transport links. Would recommend easily.

As good as usual. Check on quick and easy. Everything explained, about breakfast, restaurant, bar. Staff in restaurant obliging and efficient, including those not normally seen.

Location was best feature On arrival the receptionist did not know what the Mary Rose (Portsmouth's top attraction) was or where is it. The desk clerk reserved a taxi for departure which never arrived and he was dismissive with a "not my problem" attitude We are seniors and my wife is handy capped but we received no help at all to get our bags out to the taxi stand

Easy book in process, efficient and friendly staff. Room was clean and tidy with tea and coffee making items available as well as shampoo and soao in the bathroom, if needed. All items jn the room clean and serviceable. Well maintained entrance and lobby makes a good first impression. Overall a good stay close to the harbour and its surrounding attractions.

Adam on receptionist made me feel welcome as did Amy in the restaurant. Enjoyed fact that the hotel had a library. Room was clean and i had a good nights sleep. No noise. The only drawback is the limited parking I had to park in the Multi storey carpark -which was opposite the Hotel and to be fair the Hotel provided a discount on the parking fee. I would definitely stay there again

Excellent location, amazing staff esp the chatty ladies at reception who helped with bags and even upgraded us! Very short walk from the outlet place and port, also around 15m from town and bit more to the pier n beach. Limited parking is the only thing but we got on right outside luckily! Will come again!

Very basic room, although clean. You probably need binoculars to see the TV on the wall on the corner. I got charged 2 nights although I stayed for 1, and they wouldn't refund me although they said they would. Never again would I stay here nor recommended it.

Excellent service

Very traditional and comfortable service hotel. Location is good, very close to the railway station and the Historic Dockyards. There was however some noise quite late on from a housing estate at the rear of the property (I sleep with a window open). Next time I'll ask for a room at the front maybe. Room and en suite spotless. Very clean and comfy. Traditional English breakfast was faultless.

Was central to all attractions and restaurants.could easily walk anywhere

Very pleasant hotel conveniently situated for Portsmouth Royal Naval Museum & associated attractions.

Excellent location for exploring historic Portsmouth. Hotel is steps away from the Royal Navy yard and is near multiple dining options as well as an excellent outlet mall. If we had to pick a drawback, we would pick parking. However, if you come by train, you are only a short walk away from the station.

Great location for the Dockyards, Gunwharf Quays, and Spinnaker Tower. Reasonable walk (1mile) to Old Portsmouth and the remaining Bastion. A couple of pubs close by and the hotel bar is very pleasant.

Staff excellent. Bit of free hotel parking on the front and side of the hotel but be prepared to use the side streets (£6 per night, permit from hotel reception) which was easy enough. Nice choice of drinks in the bar and reasonably priced. Had breakfast in the hotel, simple cooked breakfast (plenty of it) via buffet style self serve (cold options available), plenty of juices and tea/coffee. Big thing for this hotel is it's history (read what's on the walls and visit the library) and proximity to the sights, and the very nicely done shopping centre and eating venues on the Boulevard.

A really good hotel with good food, comfy rooms, friendly staff and a great location. Only negative is that the heating is a bit loud but I'd definitely stay here again

Clean rooms but slightly out dated. Paid for breakfast for one day but disappointing as the food trays were empty, no fried egg, no sausage, no scrambled eggs and no hash browns . Milk jug was empty, along with the jug of orange juice. Nothing was being replenished despite just taking our money. The fried eggs and hash browns were then cooked on request whilst everything else had gone cold. Good location and close to the shops and transport facilities.

The Royal Maritime Hotel is in some ways quite old fashioned, but it has great charm. I thought the service, from the check in staff, from the staff in the restaurant and from the concierge staff, was outstanding. Everyone is friendly, but polite, and always helpful. The hotel is very good value for money. My room was quite small, but contained a double bed which was comfortable, and had an excellent en suite. I wasn't keen on the very small TV which was suspended from one corner of the room, very high up, and it wasn't of a very good quality - not really an important feature when you are in Portsmouth and busy. The hotel restaurant offers a varied menu, is reasonably priced and excellent. Breakfast was excellent. The hotel is only a short walk away from the harbour - very conveniently placed for the bus station on the Hard and for the Portsmouth Harbour train station. There is also Gunners Wharf shopping mall close by, which is a really fantastic shopping centre full of designer stores, and with lots of coffee shops and eateries. There was no hotel handbook in my room and I assumed that the hotel did not produce one. I would have liked to have known what the hotel policy of cleaning the room and making up the bed was. I was only there two nights, but my towels were not changed and my bed was not remade - I attended to the bed myself. Given that I only spent two nights in the hotel, this was not a problem - but it would have been useful to know hotel policy in advance.

Sunday dinner was a disappointment, advertised thick rare beef. But it was cut wafer thin and well done. Had the free ice cream and told we couldn’t have the forces discount as we had ice cream. No one told us. Went down for breakfast with 30 mins to spare. Cheap bread, poor coffee and a big lack of pastries. Some staff were pleasant but a couple of receptionists were so miserable. It was a hotel full of character but overall it was disappointing. Rooms were so hot as no air con and cheap thin small towels.

The room was very comfortable, the bar was very pleasant and the restaurant was excellent
