Occidental Punta Cana - All Inclusive

Lo único que de faltó es que no hay un bar y un baño en la playa. Si quieres ir al baño o por bebidas, tienes que caminar hasta el restaurante "La Caracola" lo cual lo hace incómodo. Todo lo demás estuvo excelente.

We have stayed here before back in 2019. We returned with a group of 15 people because we really enjoyed our first trip. Things have definitely gone downhill, but it is still an enjoyable resort. All trips have hiccups, but we did seem to have quite a few…. AC not working, coffeemaker spewing boiling water, ice machine doesn’t work, cockroaches. The maids were super inconsistent. Sometimes we would have enough towels for every person, as well as a hand towel and mat, other days we got only 3 towels for 4 people and no hand towel or mat. Not a big deal, but worth mentioning in a review. Food is average. Often out of basics drinks (I would estimate 40% of the time they did have any form of diet/zero pop) - they even ran out of rum. Main pool turned super cloudy a few days after we arrived and never cleared. Couldn’t see the bottom it was so murky. There are 5 restaurants that you normally have to make reservations for - but they didn’t tell us anything about them. When we inquired the next day we were told they are all prebooked and we didn’t get any choices on which restaurants or timing because we booked through Expedia and therefore don’t get to choose. This was incredibly frustrating as we travelled as a group for our 20th anniversary and couldn’t even do dinner together. We spoke to a manager after being told there was nothing they could do, and they did make it happen for us thankfully. Was never given any info (map, restaurant hours, etc).

Occidental Punta Cana was OK, but far from the best we have experienced and far below what the pictures present. The specialty restaurants were good, but the buffets were disappointing. If you like bacon and sausage for breakfast, this is not the place for you. No bacon, and "sausage" was various forms of hotdogs. The pool was generally dirty (unvacuumed and floating scum in areas). This was partly due to the swim up bar that was usually surrounded by semi-drunk people who were spilling drinks and who knows what else. Towels were a big problem. We only had 4 clean beach towels all week for two adults. It was the 2nd day before we got a towel at all. My biggest disappointment was that many of the listed amenities did not exist or were only available to membership levels that are not available on Expedia. There simply was no gym, even though it is listed. There was no hot tub with public access, even though that is listed. Kayaking, sailing, and windsurfing are listed, but that means going to the neighboring property and paying. My family and I take a Caribbean vacation just about every year (40+ in the last 35 years). Occidental Punta Cana was not horrible, but it was far below other places that we have stayed in Punta Cana. My wife's general opinion was that they were always more concerned about saving a buck rather than ensuring the best experience for their guests. We got a great deal on the price, but that doesn't always result in the best vacation.

Let me start by saying I’m not a complainer neither do I write reviews. I travel to PC every year with my family because it’s an easy flight and we love the beach and convenience/price of an all inclusive resort. With that said, I will never return to Occidental again. For starters the staff is not nice, they seem unhappy and I speak Spanish and hear them complaining to each other. The resort was not busy and the wait time to just get water or a spoon or a fork was long. The food was not good, and this is coming from someone who isn’t picky. But the worst part was that there was NO shade. I have never been to a resort that doesn’t have beach umbrellas or pool side umbrellas. People would literally be hiding from the sun under trees. Never again.

The royal level was the way to go! Great restaurant with good food. The private beach and bar was awesome!

Good hotel with a very nice pool area and direct access to the beach. The buffet food was regular but acceptable. The food at the reserved restaurants was a bit better than the buffet but nothing great. Entertainment was very good with many options.

Very good bang for the buck. 100% recommend going with Royal level for the exclusive restaurant and beach/bar.

Bar en la alberca.. llegue el viernes 26 habitacion 11101..el viernes se acabo el brugal. El sabado llegaro un grupo de personas y bebieron bastante..luego de las 3 de la tarde la bebida se acabo..no habia ni whiskey ni ningun ron amarillo..solo el blanco de la marca local.. Esperansado el Domingo hubiese bebida..pero tampoco llego compra pues supuestamente estaba cerrado el almacen... Llega el lunes y todavia la barra sin compra.. tremenda decepcion..llega martes y todavia la barra de la piscina sin bebida.. Es una falta de respeto que une compre un paquete all inclusive y no tenga bebida..lo triste es que lo repeti.. pues ya habia estado hay y la habia pasado muy bien.... He tenido una muy mala y trste experiencia.. DE VERDAD ESPERO ALGUIEN LEA ESTO REHUEL PEREZ 787 638 1362 ERAMOS UN GRUPO DE 6..DECEPCIONANTE

La hospedería en general requiere mejoras. Los cuartos presentaron problemas. Deben aumentar las actividades nocturnas. La piscina presentaba suciedad. Del grupo que fuimos 5/9 salimos enfermos.

Clean rooms, polite staff, good buffets

The actual property was great- it is on the atlantic side so keep that in mind if you were looking for caribbean waters. lots of restaurants- don't forget caracolas is a buffet breakfast too! less crowded. lots of bars, prompt service. if you are english speaking this is a spansh speaking country so don't expect everyone to speak english, learn a few phrases because not all resort staff know english (which is to be expected, it's another country). the cons: booking hotel transport was a nightmare. called three times- either no answer, transferred to a department that could not help me, or transferred me directly to punta cana and i got charged a lot on my phone bill. instead: message via expedia and they will message bakc with an email address to inquire. they will send you options and pricing, and they will get you form airport. also, the the hotels were not "vacation" quality to me. I did not want to be in that room at all. it smelled like smoke. staff was great and had someone come in to spray the room. but, it didn't help and the staff said it was because people are in smoking rooms and the smell gets in the A/C. not a big deal to me. our bathroom was not ready at all. no towels when we arrived. though the room was clean, the shower is in bad shape. it leaks from the glass barrier, which makes it look like the toilet was leaking but it was the shower glass barrier. mould in the shower. not good. also, the bed was not inviting :( pillows lumpy and uncomfortable.

Pool water was dirty furniture very old it make it look look dirty and in bad condition a lot of mosquitoes just to mention a few. Won’t comeback. The only thing was amazing is the beach , water clear and calm sand very soft. Love it

The size of the property was well laid out and the facilities such as dining, swimming pool and the beach easily accommodated guests. The room could do with some thorough cleaning. The restaurants were well decorated and the food was very good. Most of the staff were very pleasant and bilingual, which was convenient.

Hotel muito bom limpeza alimentação, voltarei

Do not go here! They are rated high for cleanliness but that is not true. Bed sheets upon arrival were stained and dingy. We kept putting the sign on our bed to change sheets with a money tip and they kept making our beds with the same sheets (we know because there was a brown stain on the corner of sheets and it was there daily). Towels are stained. They don’t wipe down tables in main buffets. They quickly remove dirty dishes and put new ones there. This place is disgustung!!! Pool has a lot of debris and garbage and also empty cups all over the shallow parts. Staff barely speak or understand English. Example: they would get confused when I asked for a tissue or straw. Food options are horrible! Cheapest and lowest quality of food. I noticed most times the food was cold (ex: fries are stale and cold). The staff are not friendly at all. They only want to service you if you provide a tip. Do not stay here!! This is an honest review!!!!

Old smelly room had to switch rooms

A estrutura e o entretenimento do hotel são simplesmente maravilhosos. Nosso quarto era enorme e impecável. Tivemos um problema com o ar-condicionado e, após algumas tentativas de resolver, acabaram nos trocando para outro quarto exatamente igual. Apesar de os funcionários não serem muito simpáticos, isso não atrapalhou nossa estadia. A comida é excelente, com várias opções de restaurantes que agradam a todos os gostos. Nossa experiência foi maravilhosa e, com certeza, voltaríamos!

No geral, a experiência foi mista. Quartos confortáveis e espaçosos, mas os banheiros precisam de manutenção, e a limpeza poderia ser melhor. A higienização diária é muito superficial. Tivemos um problema no quarto inicialmente designado, mas a equipe resolveu rapidamente, demonstrando boa vontade e agilidade.Nos restaurantes fomos bem atendidos, porém a equipe poderia ser mais alegre e empática. Destaque positivo para o restaurante Steak House, onde tivemos uma excelente experiência, com atendimento atencioso do garçom do chef e também da Magdalena. O atendimento no bar do lobby é péssimo, as esperas eram longas e faltava atenção por parte dos atendentes. A praia é excelente, bonita e bem localizada. No entanto, há apenas um restaurante com bar próximo, o que gera filas enormes para pegar bebidas, muitas vezes com apenas uma pessoa atendendo, tornando o serviço lento. A equipe de animação poderia ser um pouco mais carismática. Gostaríamos de destacar duas pessoas que realmente ajudaram na experiência de alegria e férias no hotel, Steavens Gourgue, nosso Ambassador, e Yuelise Martinez. Ambos foram muito alegres e atenciosos, sempre dispostos a ajudar. Sobre a internet, funcionava adequadamente no quarto e no lobby, porém não funcionava bem nas demais dependências do hotel. Em resumo, o hotel tem boa estrutura e excelente localização, mas precisa investir em manutenção, limpeza e e treinamento de equipe, especialmente nos bares e na animação.

The staff at this property does not speak a lick of English, it's very hard to understand what they are saying, This property does not cater to English speaking people,most times we were ignored when trying to get services, that is unacceptable,the entertainment was below average. None of the food was hot or good.The property rooms need a full upgrade. I understand most staff members speak Spanish but it should be a requirement to understand English. I wouid not recommend this property.

Espectacular! 🌟 Habitación espaciosa, comida deliciosa y variada, atención impecable y muchas opciones de entretenimiento.Fueron días simplemente increíbles! Puntos a mejorar: El Wi-Fi funciona bien en la habitación y en la recepción, pero es inestable en las áreas comunes (restaurantes, piscina y playa). En la playa del hotel hay muchos vendedores que abordan a los huéspedes, lo que puede hacer que la experiencia sea un poco incómoda. Sería ideal que existiera un área reservada exclusivamente para estas ventas.

The staff has very limited English’s giving the impression of rudeness and creating misunderstanding. At the check in counter, I was rudely told to go over another check in desk without explanation. The person at that desk didn’t speak any English. Another person came to help him with my check in, but in the middle of this another guest, who spoke Spanish came, and I was ignored for a long period of time while they were chatting and laughing. Finally, after so called private check in, I was escorted to my room by a person who said he will be my “butler”. The room was not the one I reserved. The “butler” left for a long period of time and came back with a different room key. The second room also didn’t correspond to my reservation. I was exhausted and had tears in my eyes but no one noticed. Went back to the lobby. A manager came out and escorted us to the 3rd room. This was also not the room I reserved but he said it’s in the same category, he can’t give me anything else and doesn’t understand why am I crying. The “butler “ didn’t leave his contact information for the future services. My check in took about 2hours. The room was shabby but fairly clean. The safe and the balcony door were broken and I had to wait for the 2 different repair men to come and fix them. The balcony door was not fixed at the end After nearly 3 hours in this resort I just wanted to be left alone. The room had multiple broken tiles, peeling paint, broken iron, leaking shower, non-flushing toilet.

Staff was rude. Our sliding glass door did not lock on the first floor. Check in was a nightmare. We got sick from the food.

The overall stay was good! Check in was great. Ricardo was our concierge and he did a fantastic job from day one up to the day we left. Richard checked on us everyday and ensure that we were comfortable and had what we needed to make our stay enjoyable. He was very responsive and attentive and a plus that he could speak English.The food was great. Restaurant needs to have their cutlery wrapped to prevent flies from landing on them prior to being used by guest. We had a few challenges at first; roof leak and AC not working in the room on night two, but we had our rooms changed. Rooms are dusty, moldy. And has roaches,Excellent entertainment at the resort. The staff could use some training in customer service which is lacking. We did not like the daily harassment from spa staff trying to sell you a spa package every day. We just wanted to relax and enjoy the time on vacation. We enjoyed dinner at the Asian restaurant with great service and very much disliked the Steak house restaurant. The food was terrible and I left without even getting my desert. I left dissatisfied and disappointed that night since I was celebrating my birthday, but the entertainment right outside the restaurant that night made up for it. We enjoyed the pizza place and the restaurant next to it. The entertainment at the hotel is unmatched and made up for all the inconveniences. The pool party, beach party, silent disco, Vagas night were some of the activities that we enjoyed.

The hotel, food and staff were great! Both me and my mom had a wonderful stay. She enjoyed her birthday trip. Special thanks to Lidia for being so wonderful!

The beach is full of sea weeds and nobody is cleaning it. The whole place smells sewer everyday. Just don’t know if it is coming from the rotting seaweeds on the shore. The shower in the room is so weak. Most of the staff are not friendly except for one at the reception. No much food available for snacks and can’t even be brought out from the restaurant to be eaten outside like in the pool or room. The Karaoke team ignored our friend’s request to sing because his song was in English. They chose only those who sings in Spanish. They should treat everybody same. Always shortage of beach and pool towel everyday.

The beach is fantastic: beautiful sand, scenic palms, well-maintained, with a very pleasant oceanfront feel

Occidental Punta Cana was a very nice all inclusive resort. We enjoyed the buffets with a variety of dishes. The restaurants were not great but if you didn’t like the restaurant you could always go to the buffets afterwards. The pools were great one of the pools was more of a party atmosphere and the other was more relaxed with less crowds. The beach was within walking distance with plenty of beach chairs. At the moment there is a large problem with seaweed accumulating on the beach but the resort was doing everything they could to clear as much as possible. The room was well maintained and stocked with towels every day. We always left a nice tip for the maids hard work in both our rooms. All in all we enjoyed our stay very much! If I had one critique it would be that I wish they served more authentic Dominican food dishes at the resort and served more traditional fruit varieties that you’d find in the Dominican as well as more tropical fruit drinks.

First time visiting the Dominican Republic. Maybe because it was off-season not enough activities at the resort. The dinners at the on site restaurants were good but portions are very small but tasty. Helpful front desk staff. The buffet was excellent for breakfast lunch and dinner. Room air-conditioning was perfect. In my opinion way too much soliciting for timeshares and vendors on the beach were nonstop.

A great hotel for a relaxing stay, spacious grounds, clean coastline. Good, tasty food. Nice rooms. Excellent staff. The only downside is that I wish the alcohol quality was better. I don't recommend drinking tequila; it's pure alcohol. If possible, I'd recommend fixing this issue, and everything would be perfect. Overall, I recommend this hotel; we had a great time!

La comida de los restaurantes es muy buena en los que son con reserva, el bufete ´para los desayunos es muy variado.

The resort it self is beautiful, kept very clean the land scaling is immaculate. The buffet food is ehhh edible but cold , hard to find a hot meal on the buffet line unless you’re getting what’s being cooked on the grill itself. Breakfast was ok. Danish , cereal different breads. And an omlet stations so the eggs are always hot ! We are at the ala cart restaurants at least the food was hot ! They have a pizza snack and a taco snack bar that opens at night both were good ! Room is clean not outdated and the bed was comfy. Hard to find English channels but there are some you Judy gotta hunt for thfm . Pools were nice. A little chilly at first but some days more than others. Shout out to Sophis in the main buffet she was AMAzING , loved her. She always welcomed us with a warm hug. Huge smile and knew exactly what we were drinking ;) Another name worn mentioning is Ricardo he was our concierge representative. He speedily check us in - no wait on a line and made reservations for us at the Alacart restaurants.. whet ever we need he stated when he finished checking us in and he did not disappoint !!!! I wanted wash clothes . Bam they were delivered . My sister needed an iron in her room. Wham arrival quickly !!!! We had a little issue with our room on the 6th day - I text him - he was home -he answered me right away - came right to see us when he arrived at the resort and with in a half an hour had maintenance there to check it out ! With in an hour we had a new ro
