The pool was really nice and clean, so where the rooms

So let me start off and state the property was clean. However, the hot-tub water was brown lacked any smell of disinfectant. The pool was clean"er" but still was not up to par. The room was clean, the beds and bathroom was clean. Tried calling for hours before we left to make sure the pool was working, and no answer. The real deal breaker was no form of A/C. It was really hot even with the back window open and the fan on. I feel that even front windows that open would have been an upgrade. Overall I would not stay again because of the dingy hot-tub/pool, and lack of cooling options.

The wifi was nearly nonexistent. People next door were on the walkway that leads to all 2nd story rooms chatting away into the evening - although they weren’t yelling - it was noisy and difficult to focus on a phone conversation even with my door closed. I politely asked them to tone it down - and they did, for about 10 minutes . . . To be fair, they stopped by 10 PM. The water in the jacuzzin looked green - really - I passed.

Everything was perfect. Pool was nice and the hot tub was steaming unlike many others in the area. Will definitely be staying again.

We’ve been coming to this place for over 25 years. We come back for the indoor pool. Appreciate the recent upgrades of laminate flooring. Also enjoy that it’s pet friendly and that they have a large open space to walk pets. Definitely coming back!

Enjoyed our stay especially the inside pool and Late hours of operation and only a 5 minute drive to Hearst castle

Allows dogs. Rarely full. A little noisy Saturday night holidays. Lots of kids in hot tub. Fair price 67 to 160 depending on season.

The indoor pool and spa

I don’t believe the room has ever been mopped. The floors turned our feet and socks black. I took two wash rags and got them wet and cleans the bathroom floor myself and when I took them to show the staff the only thing they said was we don’t appreciate guests ruining our towel. I included a picture of the wash rags used to clean the bathroom floor

The rooms and property was extremely dirty and moldy. We didn't stay here and left an hour into the stay.

Pleasant. The room was very clean. looked like they had just renovated. The bed was amazing. Slept really well.

Either Hang up without giving the phone number asked for to do the service with when booking up or no response when call from the room. The hair from previous occupant is everywhere including inside the fridge

Great place to stay! This was the first place I have stayed in for years that was absolutely clean!!!!! Nice hotel management as well 🤗 lots of grass and it provided an area just to sit and relax in the evening with the picnic tables and captain chairs.

Well maintained interiors and bathroom, clean, comfortable bed, with refrigerator and microwave. Plenty of parking spaces. Walking distance to restaurant in the adjacent hotel. Nice customer service at front desk. Easy to get to Cambria Main Street, San Simon State Park, Moonstone Beach, Elephant Seal Vista Point, and Piedras Blancas Light Station.

I got bedbugs from this motel. Called to let the staff know and the front desk woman, who would not tell me her name, hung up and I quote "my name is none of your business, bye b****." To say that this was a horrible place to stay is an understatement.

The room was spotless, and the front desk was amenable. It was walking distance to good breakfast and beach!

We had a ground floor room and you could easily hear people upstairs walking around. And the neighbors next door were easily heard also. Shower was low pressure and temperatures were backwards.

The room was recently renovated, very clean, and comfortable. The staff was friendly and welcoming. It was very cost effective. The only downside is that the walls are quite thin, you can hear everything from the neighboring rooms. I recommend bringing ear plugs for a better night's sleep.

Comfy bed. Don’t get a room next to the laundry facilities. Noisy until 9:30 pm with dryers and squeaky laundry carts.

Room was clean, staff is always friendly! One star deducted only because you an hear everything going on around you in the rooms.

For the price, this property was great! The walls are paper thin, so being on the bottom floor, we could hear absolutely everything above us. I’d recommend request top floor to avoid a lot of noise. Otherwise, the property was super clean, the beach was conveniently located across the street with access to some of the cavalier hotel facilities. I’d definitely recommend for anyone looking for an affordable option for lodging.

The water pressure sucks here and if a channel is blocked on the TV, it seems like the whole TC doesn't work. This issue took over an hour to get resolved. And I was just trying to watch The Office on Comedy Central, not anything crazy.

Front desk closes at night, no air conditioning so a little unsafe with patio door and window open for air. Good value though and a decent room

All of the rooms are fresh, clean and have been updated. The larger refrigerator adds a nice touch too.

Room (136) was clean, had an updated look and a comfy bed. Good price and location, to walk to restaurants, convenience store and the beach. Water pressure in the shower was a trickle.

This was our second time staying here. Just like the first time it was an awesome experience!! Staff were super welcoming and friendly and the rooms were clean! We had rooms down the hall from the pool so it was really convenient. Definitely will be going back!

Veronica the receptionist was very helpful and courteous from day 1, she tried her best to help us into our preferred room with a fireplace, we walked in with our booking and she was pleasant and very informative about the property and for future stays showed us other rooms available if our favorite rooms isn’t available. She exceeded above and beyond to make our stay pleasant. 5 star review for her hospitality.

At first glance, this property appears to be on par with neighboring businesses in terms of quality. While there was a slight musty odor in the room and some mold discovered in the refrigerator, these issues were relatively minor. However, my overall experience was significantly impacted by an interaction during checkout. After waiting several minutes at the unattended front desk, I used the exterior doorbell to request assistance. A male staff member eventually responded but did so in a noticeably curt and dismissive manner. It appeared he was in the middle of cleaning, and while I understand that responsibilities may overlap, the lack of basic courtesy was disappointing. He walked away mid-conversation without offering any explanation or assistance. In contrast, the woman who checked us in was welcoming and professional. I would suggest that future guests might have a more positive experience if front desk duties were assigned to staff with strong interpersonal skills.

Did a two day road trip with my fur babies while the wife was in Europe. This place is amazing!! Had an issue with my tv signal upon arrival and the problem was solved right away. The husband and wife team who run the hotel gave me top notch customer service. My room was clean and comfortable with a yard for my babies right outside my door. Will be back soon!

When ever I have stayed here in the past I have shown up n if my room was ready I was able to check in early regardless if it was before 3pm. I waited almost 5 mins for someone to help me n the lady was rude n just said check in isn’t until 3pm it was 2:20pm. I’ve show up at 1pm before n was able to check in this lady was just rude for no reason!! Really makes me want to never stay there again!

It was a great experience! Room was clean. Had a few issue in the beginning, but the front desk help solve all the issues in a timely manner.

Very unfriendly staff!! No one mans the front desk, waiting awhile to be helped. When they finally arrived NOT a greeting, smile or anything during our check-in. Pre-reserved room and paid ahead, provided ID and credit card and when he wanted me to sign a little digital signature box, I asked what am I signing and he just said confirmation. Upon arrival was given an upstairs room. With most the parking lot empty, I requested a first floor room us being a little older. After several excuses by the front receptionist, he finally did it. We were just below where we would have been upstairs. There were literally 7 cars in the whole parking lot (which included 4 for our families stay) and we only stayed one night.

Room was clean and spacious. Staff was excellent, the receptionist upgraded our room for our anniversary.

Probably the worst and most rude front office staff I have ever interacted with. I made a reservation through orbitz and paid for the room in advance. When I showed up, I was told that I had no reservation . I showed the front office staff my reservation as well as the receipt. I was told that I didn’t have a reservation, but if I wanted to pay, they could find a room for me, I declined and was told that I needed to take care of this with Orbitz. Once a customer service representative from Orbitz was on the phone, they verified that I had a reservation and that it had been paid for. They then tried to call this hotel. I could hear the phone ringing and I let the clerk know Orbitz was calling to clear up my reservation. I was ignored and I could see that she put the call on hold. The Orbitz customer service representative came back on the line and said that he had been cut off by the hotel and was calling again. He came back on the line again and said that the number from Orbitz had now been blocked by this hotel. Then the front office worker said I need your ID and credit card. I asked what happened and if they showed the room already paid for. She said you have to give me your ID and credit card or you can’t stay here. Never an apology for their incompetence or an explanation why they didn’t show my reservation. This whole fiasco took over 30 minutes to settle.

We booked here because we were touring the Hearst Castle. The location was great! The hotel is older but looks in keeping with the hotel/motels nearby. Room was clean, bed comfortable and strong shower pressure. We did not use pool but we saw others that did. We drove a short distance to Moonstone Beach for the sunset views and nice glass of wine. Visited Elephant Seal viewing area and did see the seals. Overall, a very nice experience.

Across the highway from the beach so that was the big draw. And two miles from Hearst Castle. A quiet and convenient location. The accommodations were comfortable and clean, nothing special but nothing lacking. Would recommend for a simple stay.

Near the ocean

The location is perfect. You can have a walk by the sea. The room was wide and clean. The staff was amazing and helpful.

Location, location... This is a great value for a place so close to the ocean, to Hearst Castle, to Cambria.

I like the grassy courtyard. It’s literally across the beach from the coastline and beach. Good value for the price.

Their rooms have recently been upgraded & improved. The room was very clean & new bed was comfortable. No breakfast is served, but there is a breakfast place across the street.

The beach was very close, could walk across the highway to get there. Not many restaurants around, the ones that were are a bit pricey. Staff was friendly. I was charged more than what was quoted for the pet fee, which kind of disappointed me. Overall, I would probably not choose to stay in San Simeon again because it's a very small town, would more than likely stay in Cambria or a little further down in San Luis Obispo.

Old style motel. Room was quite small but clean, and it was very reasonably priced. The bed was comfortable but very high off the ground (an issue for a short person like myself). Coffeemaker in the room but no breakfast offered. The motel was not full but we had people staying on either side of us so it was a bit noisy. Very convenient to Hearst Castle, restaurants in Cambria, and the Pacific Ocean!

Just about everything during my stay here was wonderful. My only complaint is that the hotel lists “breakfast included”. They broke this promise and did not have breakfast for its customers.

This hotel is on a large property with a spacious courtyard. Our room had a small balcony which we enjoyed. Hearst Castle, Elephant Seals (and Otters!), the light house, and Moonstone beach are all short drives away. Parking is easy. We had an issue with the first room we were given, but the front desk quickly assigned us to another room. They ask to let them know if you are arriving late. The Big Sur restaurant next door makes a reliable breakfast with American and Mexican-American choices. San Simeon is a quiet place, especially when the 1 to Monterey is closed. However, it's easy to link a trip here with Paso Robles, Cambria, or Cayucos.

We were there for Hearst Castle. It was nice and close and was clean and quiet. For us the only thing missing was no morning continental breakfast. Our room had a nice shower but no bath. We had coffee in our room and very restful.

Fair price , convenient location for the places I went to visit. NO breakfast included even though it was advertised when booking. Bedroom had only blinds, no curtains, hand soap dispenser broken. Average service for price.

It was a decent motel for a one night stay. Pros: 1. Great location, right across the beach, and a few restaurants near by 2. Staff was polite and understanding 3. The air conditioning system worked well Cons: 1. There was no complimentary breakfast 2. Price was a bit on the higher side 3. There was a bit of dirt in the room (understandable as it's right closed to the beach) 4. There was a water dripping noise coming wither from the plumbing inside the bathroom or the air conditioning system. It wasn't too loud but not too quiet either.
