The amenities were great, workers were very helpful, and views are Amazing. The room was clean whoever I wish thrt had a microwave in the room specially for families with children. However not having a restroom near the pool or gym were a dissapointment. Also not sure why gym is opened so late in the day, Usually gyms are open 24 hrs or at least open early 4 am.

Terrific views right on the ocean bluff. Friendly staff, spacious rooms that were clean and full of amenities such as mini bar, fridge, sunken tub and fireplace. Romantic atmosphere. Great restaurant and welcoming grounds with fire pits and games. Very pet friendly.

Easy check in and out. The breakfast in the restaurant was really good. Healthy choices and really tasty. The vegan breakfast burrito was so good and I’m not even vegetarian. Good Steel-cut oatmeal too. Room was as described, clean and comfortable. Property right on the beach and lots of little amenities to help enjoy the beachfront.

Cavalier is always our go to hotel on the Central California Coast. The staff is friendly, the room is clean and has the best balcony ever! A little disappointed that the hot tub bubbles and jets didn't work...

This is a nice hotel right on the beach. Very nice views of the ocean and sunset from the room. The hotel itself is on the older side but it is maintained well. Nice in-room fireplace and several outdoor fire pits overlooking the ocean, if you want to roast marshmallows for smores. Restaurant was good. Resort staff was friendly and helpful. It is the closest hotel on the beach to Hearst castle and Cambria is just 10 minutes away, really offering more food and shopping options. Can’t beat the location in the area. We will be back to bring our little schnauzer next time as it is pet friendly. We came in from Silicon Valley. Try to book when the weather is warm and sunny as it could get cold even in summer. We got lucky with all sunny days but still barely 70 degrees.

This place exceeded anticipation. The room and view was spectacular. There are so many things you could do. My husband and i walk the beach. We enjoyef playing chest and the roasting of the smores was a hit. We went swimming and relaxed in the jacuzzi.. The staff was pleasant and professionally helpful with information to make your stay even better.

The view is amazing. The rooms are just old and dated. The toilet had feces on the seat when we first got here. I got a drink from the vending machine and it had expired in 2022. Also, there is no air conditioning. I was provided with a fan and told to open the windows. Our room doesn’t have windows and being on the bottom floor, I didn’t feel comfortable leaving the door open while I slept. The view is incredible, but for the cost, not sure I’d be back

This place was a huge disappointment. To be honest the only thing good about this place was the nice lady at check in and the location to the beach. Other then that this place is absolutely disgusting! After moving to our 3rd room because the first one smelled liked smoke and second one had ants, we still delt with dirty dirty carpet, a whole bag of chips under the bed,poorly working coffee pot and refrigerator, no ac, no towels for the pool and the leak of care that the staff had over these issues was disappointing. Then to top it all off on out main day there there was no power from 9am till after 8pm and the staffs solutions were that we could move to a different hotel and fight the 3rd party booked threw for refund and to give us 2 small tea lights and 2 glow sticks. I wouldn't recommend this place to someone I didn't like!

The restaurant has amazing food. We had dinner and breakfast, both food choices were tasty and portion were generous. The staff were attentive. We love how close it is to the ocean. We enjoyed the time sitting next to the fire pit while watching the waves. Unfortunately, the rooms definitely need some updating. People left half eaten beef jerky inside the free drawer and we saw a cockroach. :(

The room smelled. The bathroom floor looked like it hadn't been swept, dirt and hair in the corners. The facuet leaked water on the counter. The 2 chairs in the room were so worned out i had to put a pillows or sink and hit the wood. The only reason I'm writing this is I stayed in the same room last year and it was the same. Very poor housekeeping, I even had to complain about mold in the refrigerator last year. I didn't open the refrigerator on this last trip

Property view/setting is beautiful, but rooms are dated & surely lacking. TV! NO streaming ability! TV channels 2-13 totally static/un-viewable. you get s”6 low quality channels. Basically, no TV! The bathtub-shower has no rubber mat or slip-proof floor. No rubber bath mat on slippery bath floor. No microwave, not even one you can borrow. Coffee in lobby is stale, awful. 2 washcloths for 2 people/4 days. Had to ask for more pillows -they’re tiny/smaller than twin size. Given the price per night, they need to update a bit to make it worthwhile.

The location is great! Beautiful views. Definitely upgrade to the premium rooms. We loved the fireplace in our room and the patio was wonderful. The hotel is dated, but you just can’t beat its location and the amenities it comes with. Staff was great and very accommodating. We have already booked another stay here.

My husband and I appreciate how dog friendly it is here and the rooms are nice with good amenities. We were disappointed that we reserved an ocean view room, and found that while it faced the ocean, the view was obscured by a tree/bush when we sat on the patio. You had to stand and look over it to be able to see the ocean. Also the rooms had some peeling paint.

The property is a welcome treat while traveling, but it could use some help with updating and acoustics. Overall i think guests are kind and being considerate to be quiet, but there are just noises and squeaks, and what not from the age of the facility. You can hear cupboard doors open and conversations in other rooms. Our bed and pillows were nice, sheets could use a little upgrade too.

Excellent Ocean View. Property had some quirks: NO Microwave ovens in the rooms, or on the property (We asked). Microwave was needed for heat pack to treat chronic medical condition. NO A/C unit in room. Not really needed if there was a way to get fresh air into the room at night. However, the only way to get ventilation into the main part of the room was the one large sliding door, which had no screen. So at night the sliding door had to be closed, so no way to get the fresh ocean breeze inside. We were quite warm overnight.

Room was clean but outdated. The carpet needs refreshing. The view of the room was spectacular. The fireplace was a nice feature but the room did smell like a fire pit. The jets on the spa did not work. The Wi-Fi was spotty and the TV cable was static and you don’t get a lot of clear channels.

Exceptional experience with Roxy at checkin...fun personality and very helpful. The oceanfront room with fireplace was beautiful. The property itself is a little outdated.But the rooms were big and well kept. The food at the property restaurant was surprisingly good.The only downside is the lack of a lounge or a bar. While drinks are available in the restaurant, it's not a fun or relaxing setting for a cocktail. The property is poised nicely between hearst castle and Cambria. Wonderful overall experience at a great price.

The hotel stated that the room would be see cleaned within 3 hours after request. I called at about 9:30an and informed the staff that we would be out of the room until mid afternoon. After our return at about 3:30 the room had not been cleaned. I called the front at about 4:30 and asked when the room would be cleaned. The cleaning staff had already gone home and a front office person came and basically exchanged the towels. We checked out of the hotel the next day, one day early. Would not recommend!

Greeted by very friendly staff who let us check in early. We had a premier room with patio and ocean view. There were plenty of outlets to charge devices. The mini bar prices were surprisingly reasonable: $6 for a glass of wine and $2 for peanut m&m’s. The resort has a very isolated feel, which we loved. We would definitely book there again.

What you see is what you get. Cool property right on the water. However, we were quite disappointed that our fireplace didn’t work as designed. We lit the firewood around 10pm and our room filled with smoke, as the smoke refused to vent out through the chimney. We inspected the fireplace to see if we had missed a step or had failed to open a vent but there was nothing we could see. What we had hoped to be a nice stay turned into a what seemed to be an oversight of property maintenance. We could live with that. What we weren’t ok with was that when we shared this with the front desk, we received no apology and they used the often tired excuse of “well, you should have told us when it happened.” Um… no. Not at 10pm when we had already gotten cleaned up, we’re about to open a bottle a wine and were winding down from driving all day. We weren’t about to move rooms or worse, have a repair man enter our room at that hour and subject ourselves to an undetermined amount of time that the repair would have required. Do better, Cavalier.

Too many problems. When we arrived at 4:10, our room was not ready. It was 5 before we got a key. Drove to our room. Fortunately, it is a motel where you can park next to your room. We walked in and it was not what we booked. We paid a lot more for a room with a balcony, ocean view and sparkling wine. I went back to the front desk, ready to tell them I was canceling, and got a different key right away. If it was so easy, why did they give me the wrong room the first time? I got the right room, and it was very good. The sparkling wine never appeared. I did not pay a premium price for these hassles. The much cheaper hotels nearby are a better option.

It was really nice to be near the water. Staff was friendly. The location is excellent if you’re interested in visiting the elephant seals or Hearst Castle. The restaurant on site was pretty good and service was prompt. My only complaint is that there is no air conditioning, which made for an uncomfortable night. With the windows open my children couldn’t get to sleep due to people coming and going and car noise and with them closed the room got pretty stuffy very quickly. Overall, our stay was pleasant.

The location is great! Beautiful views. Definitely upgrade to the premium rooms. We loved the fireplace in our room and the patio was wonderful. We had the Deluxe Oceanfront King room and were so impressed by our entire stay! The view was incredible! The ocean is practically in your room! I upgraded to the Special occasion package and had rose petals, candy and champagne waiting when we arrived. The little restaurant had food that was outstanding. We were so impressed by everything. I can't wait to go back and will recommend Cavalier to everyone.

Comfortable stay. Bed and amenities were nice. My room had a fireplace. Close to Hearst castle. Would stay here again, except wouldn’t eat in the restaurant. Wanting to have the Hearst beef, I ordered a medium rare Hearst burger. It was well done. Sent it back but it came out well done again. Maybe order something they can’t overcook

This is a low-key but incredible location hotel, with a great restaurant, off the beaten path. Walks on the beach, gazing at the ocean, reading a book, cozy in your room with a fireplace. Dog-friendly. Great restaurant on site so you don't need to leave. That's what you go here for.

The hotel is on a cliff right by the ocean. You cannot beat that! The construction is outdated but everything works as it should. The property is clean and staff is very responsive. As with any property by the ocean in this area, expect some windy times and dress accordingly. The Restaurant’s food has a good breakfast menu and all we order was very good.
