The paint and drywall in the bathroom was bubbling up and peeling. The carpet smelled disgusting. The sliding glass door would only open 1 foot wide, then got stuck. The in room refrigerator's freezer compartment was in desperate need of defrosting, and didn't actually keep anything frozen. The connected in-room hair dryer didn't work at all. There was a hurricane and not one staff member prepared the property and multiple pool umbrellas were blown over and broken as a result. The web page still lists "free breakfast" but we were told they just don't bother anymore. There was often loud parties in one room that seemed to have been taken over by staff, and the "heated pool" was not always heated. We've been coming here for a few years, but this year will probably be the last.

Property is very dated. AC would not completes cool the room, only near the AC unit was cool. Safety lock on door was broken and missing. Pool was cloudy and looked unsafe for swimming. Not a place I would stay again.

Pool is very dirty and no one checks HP levels at all. Light fixtures are not working. Water doesn’t drain in the bathtub. No toilet paper. Patio door don’t have a lock.

There was a kiosk at the front desk. Nobody on duty. The front door was broken and difficult to open and shut. Its automatic and was still connected to hydrolic component. Room was small and had a high moisture component. Im guessing the smell was the constant moisture. I was really let down by Wyndham by this hotel. Only plus was that the bathroom appeared fairly clean.

When we arrive I noticed the property wasn't as nice as the photos I saw, The room was smaller than I expected for the money. Out side of our room was a green mm on the floor and it's was there for two days before someone cleaned it up. I'm not saying it was a bad place to stay but the room was smaller than I expected it to be. Close to the beach and that was a plus. I think they should put some money into redoing the rooms, there was black mildew in the grout around the bathtub and buildup in the corners. Would I stay there again, sure if I got a better price. Sent $ 1049.00 for four nights. I think we could have done better for that kind of money.

It was not very pleasant, it was not a good option to stay here, the carpet was dirty, full of chocolates and sticky things, the room was dirty, the bed was full of hair and many other things 😞 I would have liked to leave happy and have been able to recommend but no apart from that it smells bad😔

I always bring my own sheets and pillows and thankful I didn’t because I put the bedspread in the floor and when I went to pull it back up on the bed when leaving there was blood on the bedspread. Not acceptable!!

I have never stayed at such a dirty place. I was absolutely shocked. First of all, the bathroom floors were covered in sand. Clearly they were not cleaned. The furniture in the room was NOT clean, and the mirrors and glass doors were not clean. The only thing that appeared clean were the beds. We didn’t have a choice once we had checked in, we had to stay. If we could have found another place on such short notice, we would have left. Never have I ever been so dissatisfied. I will NEVER stay at a Wyndham property. I am considering requesting a FULL refund. It was AWFUL. I hate to leave negative reviews, and try extremely hard to make lemonade out of lemons. But this was just an all around rotten experience!

We had a nice stay. The room was quite comfortable and the breakfast was good. Staff were lovely. Room not as appeared on photos in terms of condition. Pool and poolside were great. Air conditioning was extremely loud and kept waking us up.

This place was a mixed bag for us. If you’re looking a convenient place to stay that is close to the beach, shopping, and restaurants, but won’t break the bank, this place works well. It is right across the street from public beach access so you can be on the beach in a couple of minutes. The hotel was quiet and the area felt safe. We had an ocean-side balcony room and you could actually see the water from the room. Also, we were pleasantly surprised about the pool, which was clean and had plenty of lounge chairs available. Now for the downsides. First, the property is pretty run down and needs updating. The front automatic sliding door wasn’t working and you had to physically pull it open and closed like a really heavy and sluggish patio door with no handle. The decor is dated, the carpet looks old, the room furniture was a mixture of new and old, and the amenities were pretty lacking (obviously broken hair dryer, old tiny microwave, and an AC unit that sounded like a low-flying aircraft). The beds were comfortable enough and looked like the linens were clean. The bathroom was tiny and there was obvious water damage and loose fixtures, but plenty of hot water. We had zero contact with staff. Checkin is done remotely using a kiosk and nobody was at the desk. We didn’t have the breakfast because we didn’t expect it to be worth trying. We didn’t have housekeeping service, so I can’t comment on that. Overall, this place is so-so, but not a place we would choose again.

Their ad says ocean front on the beach. The beach is actually across the street and cannot be seen from the hotel. I understand they used to be on the beach and moved to refurbish the other building. Perhaps they should change their ad to “ used to be oceanfront”. Beds were comfortable and internet was spotty. No food available in hotel or adjacent.

Stayed five nights at the Travelodge in KDH. Overall the room was clean and comfortable. We have stayed there on previous vacations with no problems. However, the check in and checkout came with some glitches concerning the kiosk system. This takes some getting used to. When we checked out the kiosk person had trouble with his headset, as his earpiece kept falling out and it was difficult for us to understand him. I am not a fan of this automated system and hopefully the problems can be worked out. In addition, there was no one on duty until almost 7:30 AM at least twice while we were there. There were several key cards left in front of the door because no one could get in. What if someone had to check out early? I hope customer service can be improved, otherwise travelers will take their business elsewhere.

I booked a Friday night. I later added Thursday night. The Wed. before our trip I called Travelodge-spoke to a female, asked her if she could combine the bookings...I thought I might have booked 2 different rooms. If NOT, totally fine, it was my doing. She said she could do it-we were all set to be in the same room both nights. We arrived Thursday and "A" checked us in...he didn't see where the bookings were combined. So again-I asked if he could do it. He said YES and we could just stay all of Friday, not check out and back in, etc. Friday morning we were ready to walk to the beach-it's a hike. I stopped by the front desk to again to verify the stay. "G"-a female worker at the front desk said, you are only booked for 1 night and then in a different room for tonight. I told her about the call and Abel...2 workers fixing it for us. She rudely looked at me like I was crazy and her answer was "what do you want me to do?" Oh and why are you mad at me?-"well I didn't do this." I did tell her that her customer service skills were horrible. She didn't once say sorry or ask what she could do to help the situation, she didn't offer to call a manager. We packed up, turned in the cards and walked away. She yelled out for me asking if I was checking out-the exact thing she said we had to do and return at 4 to check into another room. We went back and forth and I finally walked away. We did NOT return although we paid for the night. The staff here has major communication issues.

Check in was a nightmare!! You have to check in on a kiosk with a person on the screen, he has to reboot the system twice and there were so many people waiting. It wasn’t until one of the cleaning staff helped out she was so more efficient in getting people checked in The hotel is conveniently located and has some good paces to eat around there The refrigerator wasn’t cold at all Told room would be ready by 2 and watch another couple get a room and I had to wait an additional 2 hours

The precheck in process is smooth. We were able to collect the keys as soon as we reached the hotel. The staffs were really friendly. However, our key stopped working on the second day for no apparent reason and we noticed other people also faced this issue. Other than this incident, the stay at this hotel was a good experience.

There were so many problems with my stay at the Travelodge in Kill Devil Hills, it was like a bad movie. Upon check-in, customers were getting charged for rooms that weren't theirs from a kiosk with a Travelodge representative that could barely speak English. After check-in, the elevators weren't working and this continued to be an issue throughout the duration of our stay. There were two elevators but only one of them worked on occasion and shook to the point of making any accompanying guest comment on how nervous they were about taking it. The hallways were always dirty and when we finally got to our rooms one had a broken remote, a missing clock, and the deck chair was broken. The group I went with had been coming here for years and said they never had issues, but things have definitely changed, including the breakfast which was said to be offered in the morning yet we were told by the staff was never a thing. Their website also said the pool was heated yet it was ice cold. They also said there was internet, both on the site and at the front desk, yet it was impossible to get a signal anywhere on the property. Our room keys would stop working almost every day and it wasn't just ours because when I would return to the desk to have it fixed, other guests would be there with the same issue. They did offer coffee in the morning while the juice machine was broken, yet they did not have lids for the coffee. There's more to say but I'm limited to a 1500 character review.

Upon arrival there was no desk attendant and a room full of people waiting to check-in via a kiosk. Max, the kiosk guy, was super friendly. Unfortunately, getting clean towels or toilet paper was extremely difficult because there was not an attendant. If you asked a random employee they “would pass the message”. One day it took 3 requests and the entire day to get clean towels. Our room was pet friendly and clean. The beds were super comfortable! Beach access was directly across the street. Overall a good stay and would stay again.

We stayed at the Travelodge by Wyndham Outer Banks/Kill Devil Hills for a week. This was the WORST experience I ever had in ANY hotel. Our room was NEVER cleaned even though we requested housekeeping services after three days. We only got clean towels because the night auditor was able to provide them. We asked for housekeeping services again after the fourth day and still was ignored. I asked the hotel manager for a monetary adjustment and she referred me to Expedia. Expedia offered a $25 credit for the nextt time I book through them.

The walk to access the beach however was not difficult. Also, I had an expectation of breakfast as there was a photo of a breakfast area. Coffee was provided and on our last day there was fruit and nutrigrain type bars. Most of the other photos of the property were accurate. The property was clean and quiet. Parking was easy with roomy parking spaces. The room was basic. I would recommend sheer curtains in addition for privacy. The rooms and balconies overlooking the pool had a very 'goldfish bowl' feel. I probably would not return but that is mainly due to the lack of walkability to restaurants and shops.

I would categorize it as a beach hotel. They're always a little dated and sandy feeling, but clean and convenient. The Expedia site says Beachfront, which it is not. It is across the street from the beach which is very misleading.

Advertising breakfast, don’t count on it unless all you eat is a banana or apple. They had juice and coffee. One reason to book for me with kids is because breakfast is offered. Instead, we had to eat out every morning. Also watch out for additional charges when booking. Read the fine print when you pay in two installments. Because I did not pay in full, and occupancy was high, I was charged extra. My additional charges were over $400. Due to the additional charges, I could have made reservations at a much nicer property had I known that in the beginning. you also cannot see the beach from this hotel. There is, however, a public access across the street from the hotel.
