Location was awesome! We had an ocean view room . They had corn hole on property and a gazebo which was great for viewing beach without getting in the sand. Added bonus was it was wheelchair accessible. The only down side the toilet was you needed to hold handle down to flush. Also did not appreciate smell of weed in the hallway when walking to our room. We would definitely come back. Front desk staff was friendly and helpful.

Overall a nice place to stay, love the lay out of room with kitchen dinette. The beds were a tad hard for my liking. Would have been nice to have an elevator, but not a game changer. There were a lot of maintenance ppl taking care of the property throughout the day to keep it looking nice. The property had a lot of outside seating and and beautiful terrace overlooking the beach with beach access. Very lovely! The breakfast was nothing to write home about with next to no gluten free options. Found to be a little weird not to have protein of any sorts such as eggs and or a meat.

Stay was good, except getting stuck in the elevator for 10 mins. Just stopped working and the phone in the elevator didn’t work either. Front desk staff didn’t care too much, just thanked us for letting them know. Other than that it was a decent property, right on the beach, especially for the price. Does need some updates.

Love the new ocean front covered area and the showers/foot wash closer to the beach. Service was friendly and helpful like usual. Everything was clean and orderly. We love the included breakfast and took advantage of that each morning. If I’m being nit picky, I would like to see more protein options offered, though. 2 of the 3 grills were out of service this time. Hopefully, they get that remedied. They also seem to have a leak in the pool since they were adding water from a hose. Not a big deal but it does make the pool water colder.

Pros Location Workers Cons Dirty Loud WiFi Bed Steps from the beach. Great location, but the rooms look nothing like the photos. The place looks like a sketchy motel and reeked of weed. Everything is outdated. The bathroom had ants, vents needed clean, bathroom light and furniture has rust. Popcorn ceilings/walls. The tv was crooked. WiFi was nonexistent. The beds were pretty stiff and had two half sized pillows on them. I understand it’s only a 2 star place but it doesn’t live up to its 9/10 and 4.2/5 star ratings.

We reserved a room with a kitchenette. They don’t supply any dishes, bowls, cutlery, dish soap, or knives for prepping. The kitchenette was pretty useless. We couldn’t clean anything that we used unless we bought dish soap. We couldn’t prep anything. The rooms were not clean at all. Our feet and socks were black with dirt just from walking across the floor. The beds were never changed during our stay. The towels had black hairs and stains on them. There was a black handprint on the back of our restroom door. Would not recommend this property unless you’re staying one night and don’t care about cleanliness.

Room seemed clean on arrival, smelled like clorox & looked decent. But that night we saw the first roach, a german cockroach(the ones that get in food & infest houses if not taken care of). NOT a water bug. We saw atleast 4 every night & morning there after. I had to go buy roach spray & spray while we were there & sprayed all our things as we packed them to make sure none came back home with us in our stuff. On top of that the parking was terrible. We couldn't park at our room for the majority of our stay & all the spaces were compact to where we could barely open our doors to get out, I can deal with parking but the roaches is a big no for me & makes it to where I'll never stay here again. The floors were also really sticky, made sure to wear shoes or socks the whole time. If that wasn't an issue, I'd probably consider it because the beach access was great.

Hotel was in a good spot and room was good size, but the floor needs to be mopped. The first day I got there, I walked around the room in brand new socks and the bottoms were black within 10 min. I took a wet rag across the floor and it turned black. Looks like it never gets mopped. Might want to have a talk with housekeeping.

Great view for the Partial Ocean View. Could watch the sunrise from the balcony each day. Easy access to the beach and great location for everything else in OBX. Included breakfast was extra bonus. The hall and room carpet along with the room furniture, though newer, was a bit worn though. Would still stay again.

Come on people, this is not a 9 out of 10 hotel. There was nothing above average about it stay. Everything was just "fine". The beds were comfortable enough, pillows were quite hard though. The Internet was poor and frequently buffered. Water pressure was very weak. Room was small, not much space to move around. Balcony only had 2 chairs, no table. Overall stay was totally fine, but folks need to be a little more discerning with their ratings.

Overall a really good stay, if you are on the first floor like we were it can be very noisy throughout the day with guests above stomping around or going to the ground floor to get ice. The only true downside was the noise as the room we were in was a conjoined room that was vacant until our second day, we could hear everything very clearly in the other room. All the staff and amenities were nice!

Our stay was nice! We enjoyed the room and the east access to the beach. I was over charged over $300 by “accident” and was told it would take 5 business days to get a refund. Hopefully that doesn’t happen to others.

I was disappointed with a few aspects of my recent stay. At check-in, the female receptionist came across as rude and condescending, which made the arrival experience less welcoming than expected. The cleanliness of the room was below standard. The bed lining did not appear fresh, and I had concerns about whether unused towels and face cloths are routinely changed between guests. The hotel was fairly nice, but needed some updating. We experienced rain coming into our room, and had to be moved to another. The room was cleaned up and we could return to it, but didn’t want the hassle of moving again. I asked for a partial refund, because of the price difference in the rooms. I was told because it was booked through a third party (Hotels.com) they could not do anything.

Great place to stay! Very friendly staff, especially Berik, who saw my request at check in & graciously moved us to a room on the first floor. When my husband asked about a nice restaurant since it was our Anniversary, Berik not only gave us recommendations, but also put a congratulatory message on the board in front of the Inn. As for our room, it was beautifully decorated, very clean, & comfortable. Breakfast was also nice & had several items to choose from. Although it was too cold & windy to relax at the beach, it was beautiful to look at & located right behind the building. We will definitely stay here again!

Checked in and was not told about hours of the breakfast, where it was, hours of the pool. Room was average . Bathroom vanity was too small , not enough counter space. Let empty bag from fast food on the desk and got ants right away. And i wasnt on the first floor. Sand on the floor

We stayed here last year and were happy to return this year. We were not disappointed. Great location, wonderful room, staff is friendly and quick to respond. Our air conditioning went out and it was replaced and working while we went out to dinner. We plan on staying here again next year and have already booked. Highly recommend!

What did I like ?, the location, the on-site parking convivence, the friendly and personable staff. I have stayed at the John Yancey multiple times and have never been disappointed. The location is great and the walk over to the beach is convenient, and easy to navigate. The gazebo cover is an excellent addition, providing an area to hang out after a wonderful day at the beach. The location in Kil Devil Hills provides you access to multiple restaurants and shopping. The beach is clean and provides ample space for your umbrella or whatever you are using for shade. The ocean never disappoints, whether it is filled with splashing or calm rolling waves. A go-to location on the Outer Banks, that includes everything you would want for a relaxing day, weekend or week. The staff was very helpful,sending someone to fix the tv and helping us with passes to the Y. Breakfast was okay, heavy with high calorie items but there was some fruit and hard boiled eggs. The room was very clean and was serviced daily. The view from our third floor room of the ocean was lovely. While there were no open eating places within walking distance, it was close to numerous dining spots.

It was by ocean and restaurants. I didn’t care for breakfast unless you just like cereal and pancakes. They didn’t clean our room for 2 days so I had to ask for towels and trash to clean our room up.
