I’m not a big fan of leaving negative reviews, so here’s an average review. The hotel is located in a prime location right on the beach. The indoor wave viewing room in the lobby was awesome. Perfect spot to enjoy a glass of wine as you watch the sunset. The outdoor fire pits are plentiful. The hotel offers s’mores kits for the kids which was appreciated. There’s direct access to the beach and the hotel has outdoor showers to rinse off the sand. The pool was nice and warm. The parking was plentiful and never an issue. So here’s the bad. The hotel was undergoing a lot of renovations. Construction started early and it was loud. The waves were loud. Can’t fault Mother Nature for doing her thing but the hotel could use noise dampening under the doors. Staffing was definitely an issue. Not enough staff to run the hotel. We never got hotel cleaning services the entire time we were there. When we were at the pool, towels ran out pretty quickly and no one cleaned up the pool area. Guests had to run to the front desk to request towels. There were technical issues with the room. The TV wasn’t working, the AC motor sounded and smelled like it was about to burn out. We brought it to the hotels attention but once again, staffing issues were blamed. The staff that were actually working were cordial and nice. There were some that could work on improving their communication skills, but they weren’t rude, just could brush up on their customer service skills. Overall, the experience was okay

The stay was good. A lot of amenities comes with the price you pay including 2 hour electric bike ride per day u stay w them, smores for the firepit, free wine card available at their lobby, access to fitness center and access to the beach. We booked the night before the weekend we were gonna stay so the price we paid was a bit pricey, double of what you pay if you book earlier. It was a family trip so we didnt enjoy all of the amenities and it was also cold and rainy. Towards the end of our stay, after we checked out we decided to visit the beach and thought we can keep our car parked there since the lot was empty and we still have our parking pass and hey we paid double the price and wasnt able to use all amenities why not take advantage of that pass atleast before we head back to our home 4 hours away. After visiting the beach we have one of their staff about to approach us in a very angry matter he was saying something we ddnt understand because we were already driving away but we can tell he was visibly angry and about to confront us probably from parking in their lot and using their access to the beach. I am very upset about this because we had a great stay with them until this staff assumed we had no right to be there. He didnt even try to ask us questions if we were staying there, he just want to come at us already angry for being there. We were with 3 kids ages 2,6 and 10 and they were very confused why that staff was mad at us after enjoying the beach.

They did some nice cosmetic updates. . . however the door to the room rattled every time the waves crashed to shore. They removed carpet from the room so now stand sticks to your feet and it was difficult to keep the sand out of the bed. Coffee stand and fridge was too small. The coffee maker is an off brand so we were not able to use the Keurig pods to make hot coco or tea. There was not a dresser to unpack our clothes from out suitcases. No water pressure in the shower. No microwave and no bathrobe. The outside seating areas where really nice, however because they were not covered when it rained they were too wet to sit on to enjoy the firepits. On the positive side they increased the seating in the lobby / common area, added a gift shop, fitness center and new bikes for rent.

The lobby area is very well done the rest of the facility needs attention to details. Outside patio spaces very dirty and unkept. Weather conditions during our stay did not allow for the pool however the sauna area seemed to be unkept and we were told it wasn’t completed however I imagine it was due to maintenance issues. Water pressure was limited in shower. Overall the price $$$ didn’t match the experience and the $45 per day plus tax seemed outrageous for parking. The bar not being open until 3:00 limited arriving guest from relaxing and enjoying a glass of wine from the wine tap which was also not available until after 3:00.

Beautiful property right on the beach. Rooms were clean and updated. Staff was helpful and restaurant and bar was good and convenient. A free glass of wine with each room key was a nice touch. Location is within driving distance to most restaurants, golf and attractions. Pool was nice, although not heated so a bit more of a cold plunge even though we were there in July, it was surprisingly cold. There is a hot tub so that was nice. Enjoyed our stay would recommend!

Loved everything about it. Right next to the beach they have little bonfire pits on the beach and have awesome fire pits with comfortable couches facing the beach. We saw dolphins really near the shore. Staff was amazing and the wine included with the room I had gotten was awesome! Parking is quite fair priced. Lounge area is beautiful you can sit down, get some wine, sit down and look at the beautiful scenery through the big glass windows they have in the lobby.

Overall, staff was friendly and lobby / food was fantastic! Also thought the location right off 1 is great, we were less than 10 min from downtown Monterey and Carmel. Would not recommend staying here for peace and quiet. One side faces the pool and the other faces the beach. Each night of our stay there was quite a bit of noise late into the evening because the fire pit was located directly outside of our room. Not ideal!

Pros: Location was great and beach view was beautiful. Nice places to sit at the beach and they provided little kits to make smores. Front desk staff was helpful. Cons: It was very loud and noisy, I think being on the beach side made this worse, but we were awoken very late at night by loud people on the balcony and yelling outside. The room had a very dirty floor and mold on the bathroom ceiling.

Others stated that cleaning was an issue and I thought after seeing the management respond back to so many messages apologizing saying that they fixed this issue I decided to book because of the location. Sadly they did not fix this issue. For a relatively pricey hotel, it is shocking that they do not clean rooms daily. We had to call the front desk multiple times to get the room clean. We only had the room cleaned once. The excuse for not cleaning the room daily (during our almost 4 day stay) was that they were at max capacity, but I have stayed at a plethora of hotels and never heard of that being an issue. The rooms are beautiful though, just a shame that you have to follow up multiple times to get a basic room clean and towels.

The oceanfront view rooms have a fantastic view. The front desk and cleaning services were very disappointing. It took us an extra three hours before our room was ready beyond the scheduled check in time. The front desk kept saying 30 minutes and we will let you know, even though we were in the lobby, they never came once to give us any updates we had to chase down our information. I do want to say that they did eventually give us some room credits for food and waived our parking fee, but waiting an extra 2 1/2 to 3 hours was a bit ridiculous. The rooms were very dark and small but they were clean their purpose and the view right outside the door of your room was fantastic , we had breakfast upstairs on the fourth floor nice nothing special about the food, but the view from there was still fantastic. Overall, I would say we were glad we stayed there, but it certainly started off with a very rocky start. On an odd sidenote, there was a dead sea lion just over the seawall in front of the hotel when we arrived and still there the next day. That is not the fault of the hotel of course but it did seem a bit odd or take away a little bit from the ambience, the view at night of the Monterey Bay Coast was breathtaking

This hotel was very loud. Not the cleanest place. There was a bunch of dirty laundry outside the door when we arrived at room. No cleaning service during the day when there was supposed to be cleaning. Room had sand all over floor. Water from faucet barley flowed. Very low water pressure for showers. Ocean view room had a big grey cement wall that blocked the view and a staircase. This room was a disappointment.

First room they gave us, dirty bed. The bed was made but the sheets were dirty and used. They moved us to another room, way better but empty shampoo and body wash. Alex at the front desk handled it professionally. Also, Denis the server at the Lantern room on the 4th floor was great!

Property has been updated and the lobby is a great spot to sit and look at the ocean. The room we stayed in had ants (staff did come and spray) and the toilet leaked around the base. Overall the location is the best characteristic of the hotel.

This is a beautiful newly remodeled hotel. It is right on the beach with great outdoor and indoor areas to enjoy the view. If you are booking on the ocean side - you will have traffic from the outdoor hallways past your window and you will have the sound of the waves. You are that close to the beach. They hold a $250 damage deposit on each room - just be aware of that at check in.

Young adults were drinking and talking quite loud outside of our room (104) late into the night. I don't think they were staying at the hotel, just came up from the beach area to sit on the chairs on the deck out front of our area. It made it very hard to get a good night rest.

We were disappointed with our stay because of the noise level in our room. We were placed right next to what seemed to be a storage or utility room, with employees frequently moving in and out. Starting before 7 AM, there was constant banging and loud noises that woke us up early both mornings. It really impacted our ability to relax and rest during the trip.

The hotel itself is in a great location. Right on the beach and close to a lot of places we wanted to go. The front desk staff were helpful. Delivered an extra blanket and do not disturb sign to the room. Self serve wine bar was nice. Walls are super thin. Can hear people talking. House keeping was super loud laughing and chatting. We were right next to the pool and could hear all the people jumping in and kids screaming. The room is smaller than expected. No dresser, no table, no closet. The mini fridge is really small. Could only hold a few drinks. There is no microwave. The tv is to the left of the bed. Even if you’re sitting on the left side it’s still not in front of you. Very little light unless you open the blinds. We sent the temperature of the room to 65 when going to sleep. It never got below 69-70.

This hotel epitomizes style over substance. We booked an ocean room but were told on arrival there were plumbing issues. We were then assigned a basement level room with a view of a fence across from a construction site. They tried to give us a parking credit but not adjust the room rate until we asked. We complained about this horrible room and were moved to another room with a view of the highway instead. It got worse from there. From no towels or wash cloths in the room to broken coffee machines, to construction in the morning, to running out of coffee in the cafe, it was a comedy of bad service.

Pre check in the woman was not nice never made eye contact talked so fast I could not keep up with what she said never told me I had to pay very expensive a day for parking ridiculous The Maid didn’t service our room on Thursday and at very expensive a night that’s ridiculous Keep the wine gift card I’ll take free parking No heated pool ridiculous even the best western heated the pool but the Marriot can’t. The wait staff at the lounge/bar and the restaurant were very friendly and did a great job in making us feel special and gave us a great experience. They were the highlight of our entire stay and we highly commend the staff for their professionalism and loveliness. The staff at the front desk were also very friendly and patient with customers however, they rarely followed up on requests that couldn't be met immediately. I called 4x before arrival requesting a credit card authorization form and never received it despite being told it was on its way each time. They apologized which was nice but I needed the job done and they couldn't make it happen. Same situation applies with meeting our needs to adjust our folio expenses (which was their offer to adjust due to them having to change our room type, they offered and I accepted and appreciated their willingness to help). However, we never saw the adjustments on our folio and was told to contact the manager to see that it got done after we checked out and left the property. I contacted the manager via phone only to be able to leave a voice mail and have yet to receive a response. We enjoyed the stay and have enjoyed staying there in the past but this time around (since becoming a Marriot property?) the experience made us feel like they were either understaffed, under trained or new to hospitality. Can't say we'll be back soon.

The room was great but the service was terrible towards the end of our stay. We requested Kate check out (12:00 pm) instead of 11 and at 11:10 housekeeping started knocking. I told her we had a late check. 5 minutes later, a hotel staffer knocked and I told him the same thing. Even told him I was waiting on my husband to come back and he proceeded to tell me, O here is is now, not knowing if the man was my husband or not. Not only was this extremely rude but it was scary. I WILL NEVER STAY HERE AGAIN

5 STARS..... I absolutely loved this place. The rooms are clean, and the beds were comfortable, grounds are well kept. The staff was amazing I was able to communicate via text, and all my wishes were met quickly . I had the opportunity to visit the bar with complementary wine card they gave us when we got there, it was a birthday trip, and after a long day at the aquarium, it was welcomed . They even have smores service ,nice touch. Such a nice and relaxed atmosphere the bartender was very helpful with questions I had. I also was able to have a delicious breakfast in the hotel restaurant I had pancakes verry good, then I was entertained by dolphins passing by, and my server was great. Yes it is expensive and you have to pay for parking but can you really put a price on a wonderful experience? I also like its not to close to the to the Chaos of downtown but close enough to get there in few minutes and its dog friendly with immediate entrance to the beach. I highly recommend would absolutely do it again. Thank you Monterey Beach Hotel, A Tribute portfolio Hotel, for making our stay a joyful experience, I cant say enough Just thank you, from all of us!

A beautiful get away to have the ocean a few steps away from your room. A few things , upon arrival service was good. The room was nice , comfortable, loved that I was able to hear the ocean at night so would put me at a peaceful sleep. The lantern room is so good! Love when a hotel has a restaurant in it ! As I needed to check out it went smoothly , unfortunately the front desk never asked how my stay was since I was ready to let her know that the light in my room never worked and had to use the bathroom light n tv . But overall I’d come back.

The staff was nice, but the room didn’t have a microwave, the refrigerator is only big enough to hold candy bars and not even a half gallon of milk, the drain plug in the bathtub didn’t work so I couldn’t give my daughter a bath like she wanted, the chrome cast option to stream content to the tv didn’t work. The ice machine is only on one side of the building which is a far walk if your on the other side like I was. A can of soda is $5. The door also doesn’t seal well so there’s an actual breeze through the door frame. The couch was so firm that it hurt to sit on it for too long. There’s also no ventilation in the bathroom. I used the bathroom on the 4th floor so I didn’t have to in my room. The hot tub was okay but if you go by the corner of it, there was a horrible smell that smelled like old thrown out seafood or something. There’s also no lighting in the pool and hot tub area after dark (at least while I was there). The pool has a light inside of it, but nothing else in the area. Will definitely not stay here again.

I loved my experience at this hotel. It was a one night get away for my Mother’s Day present! Beautiful beach view, nice amenities, great bar and restaurant. I got a king room with ocean view. My only complaint, and what’s keeping me from giving 5 stars, is that a few things were broken and or didn’t work properly. The blinds wouldn’t go all the way up (broken) so I couldn’t see the entire beach view from my window because the blinds were stuck halfway up, the fridge door wouldn’t close all the way, the toilet paper holder was broken and tilting off the wall, my tv wouldn’t let me put it on chrome cast (despite the remote giving instructions on how to do so). These are little things that can easily be fixed for little finances by the establishment but make the experience that much better. Thanks!

However, we never saw the adjustments on our folio and was told to contact the manager to see that it got done after we checked out and left the property. I contacted the manager via phone only to be able to leave a voice mail and have yet to receive a response. We enjoyed the stay and have enjoyed staying there in the past but this time around (since becoming a Marriot property?) the experience made us feel like they were either understaffed, under trained or new to hospitality. Can't say we'll be back soon.

It was so relaxing hearing the waves….. BEAUTIFUL view day or night! Front desk was AMAZING only down fall 45.00 for parking and no room service but we will be back!!

Beautiful property right on the beach. Rooms were clean and updated. Staff was helpful and restaurant and bar was good and convenient. A free glass of wine with each room key was a nice touch. Location is within driving distance to most restaurants, golf and attractions. Pool was nice, although not heated so a bit more of a cold plunge even though we were there in July, it was surprisingly cold. There is a hot tub so that was nice. Enjoyed our stay would recommend!
