Holiday Inn Express Hotel & Suites Midlothian Turnpike by IHG

This is a hotel at a critical juncture. They must either invest some money and make immediate improvements, or they will slide into irrecoverable mediocrity and lose their fanchise. First the good: -The staff was all very nice. You could tell they were trying to do their best with what management has given them. -The breakfast crew was excellent. High quality, good selection, different every day, and carefully watched to make sure there was plenty of everything. Again, kudos to the staff. -The lobby is spacious and nice. So is the courtyard behind it. The not-so-good: -The gym was a wreck. Broken treadmill.Barely working elliptical with broken buttons and TV. Trash and towels not taken out for days. Empty unused space where more equipment could be placed. And your roomkey won't open the gym. You have to go to the front desk to get a special gym key. -I think the pool is leaking because they had a hose running into it for the whole time we were there- made it unnecessarily cold despite high heat outdoors. Also, no towels housed nearby, One has to go to the front desk. -We had a two room suite (201). The keys kept malfunctioning and kept needing to be reprogrammed. It was hyper annoying. -Our rooms were dated. Old furnishings. Old TV's with barely working remotes. No USB ports. Little lighting- very dim. -No AC in our hallway -Only ONE ice machine for whole hotel that was perpetually out of ice. -Elevators were awful. Barely working. Took 5-10 minutes go up one floor

The room was very clean but the Beds were too soft/caved in in the middle. The gym was pathetic, unfortunately. The guest laundry was for use with quarters only, front desk, though saying they could break dollars, couldn’t. It needs some TLC

Do not waste your money here. This property is not maintained. Gym equipment does not work. Front desk response was "sorry". A large sticky spill on 2nd floor 1 foot off the elevator was there for 2 days. Orange juice was more brown than Orange.

Elevator makes scary noise, interiors are very old, one of the night stands does not work, outside area looks pretty bad. Absolutely not worth $250. Total rip off

Several staff members seemed very uninterested in providing assistance - our microwave did not work and the first person we spoke with said she didn’t know if there was anything she could do she’d call us back. For a large hotel, the gym having only 3 pieces of equipment was strange, and one of those was out of order. I would never stay here again, I chose it for the location but next time I’ll just settle for driving a bit farther for a nicer place.

Food was good. The treadmill didn’t work in the fitness center

Bathroom sink very clogged. Discovered next morning that 2 back doors were ajar.

The hotel was fine, it was in need of a refurbishment but not horrible. The fitness facility was in need of a complete overhaul, the treadmill did not work and the elliptical did not work, i was told that most people just walk around the parking lot??? Not really what I was after.

The staff was friendly, the room was spotless, and the breakfast was good! I would definitely book with them again

This property is very dirty in the breakfast area by looking at the chairs I immediately lost my appetite. The rooms were fine but things seem to be run down. A little more effort could go into cleaning things especially the eating area, kinda grossed out imagine what we aren’t seeing in the kitchen area.

We arrived at 4:45 and were told our room wasn't ready, yet check in was 3:00. Luckily after some discussion, a room was found to be ready. The window curtains had mold and holes and the bathroom tiles and shower head had red mold. There were mysterious drips going down the bathroom door from the handle as well. We were only there for one night.

The sheets had hairs on them from previous guests? The room smelled stale and the front desk staff were not hospitable. This hotel was not clean for the nightly fee they were charging for it.

There was no hot water in my room, so I could not shower. The bathroom sink did not drain. The bathroom needs to be deep cleaned; there is mildew in the corners. there was a wet spot on the floor at the foot of the bed, probably from the air conditioner.

This property was beyond dirty and was boarder line toxic and unsafe Mold was on the ceilings in the bedrooms. The ceilings were puckering hair in the bathrooms. I had 2 rooms and both were filthy. The staff was amazing trying their best to accommodate us to another room that wasn’t as bad. My grandson has severe asthma and that mold In that room was unacceptable for anyone to stay in. We booked this hotel months ago based off the photos online which was very deceiving and we only stayed because all the other hotels in the area were sold out. The ground had dog poop in the front of the hotel. Every single door to all the hotel room doors were filthy. The pool of the bottom was also disgusting. Tape was on the walls covering God knows what. Dirt and patch spots all in the bathroom. It’s so much more to say but I will definitely contact corporate because this is so unacceptable and dangerous for individuals who are asthmatic. I also took pictures and videos of this property. The lady at the front desk was absolutely understanding and showed empathy and did everything she could to try and help us. She did say the are do for renovations.

Stay was quiet and no major issues. Floor was sticky by the bed and the corners of bathroom were dirty. Air freshener was over powering when you first walked in. We have stayed here before and it seems to have been a. It neglected this time.

They use a lot of deodorizer in the room. The outlets were old and charger cords fell out. We had to move rooms due to AC being broke. In the room we moved to, The toilet did not flush well and the lock on door to bathroom was broken. Kids were running and being loud in halls. Breakfast was late opening. With that being said. The staff were very nice and the room was clean.

Very dated hotel. Handheld shower didn't work. Sheets had black spots on them. Could hear everything in the next room. Lots of noise coming from hallway at 1am. Light pouring in from other room around the door. Including their 6am alarm clock. Carpet is old with runs in it. Bed was hard. Property is clean. It's just an average remodeled old hotel. And it's not even that cheap.

Nice, spacious rooms, and very comfortable.

We recently stayed at this hotel and, unfortunately, our experience was not the best. While the room itself was clean and tidy, the rest of the hotel left much to be desired. The elevator and hallways were noticeably dirty, which gave a poor first impression. The biggest issue, however, was the noise. Every time someone closed their door nearby, it caused our entire room to vibrate. It was so loud and jarring that it woke us up multiple times during the night. At one point, we even thought someone was trying to force our door open—it was that intense. Clean rooms are appreciated, but noise and cleanliness throughout the hotel matter just as much. Sadly, we wouldn’t choose to stay here again unless improvements are made.

Old carpet and furniture

We could hear the conversations people in the rooms next to ours. The water was lukewarm- as in the shower was less than desirable. The water pressure was weak and the water was not hot.

Our room had a bedroom with two king beds and a living room with a couch and separate entrance. The rokms were very spacious and had lots of space for our family with teens. This hotel os a bit older but they noted its undergoing a remodel. The continents breakfast was decent.

The hotel was easily accesible from highway on our way down to NC. Service was kind. However the rooms were moist and needed better ventilation.

Nice hotel, needs some upgrades, a little outdated.

I really liked our room and it was comfortable with Double King beds, However it was not the room I paid for. I paid for a little more expensive room that was supposed to be bigger with a couch and a sitting area. When I checked in the woman was rude to me as soon as she saw that I booked through Expedia, she said to me " Well I can't help you, You booked through a third party". Once I seen that the room was the wrong room, I didn't feel like dealing with her again. She was already treating me differently and was rude because I just booked it third party. My bed was very comfortable for sleeping in though but my husband was kinda uncomfortable without a sitting area to watch TV. They had a hard chair for him to use but it was not comfortable. We ordered door dash and the area had late night choices that were not fast food. I would stay again but pray that I didn't get treated differently for booking this way again and that I would get the room I actually paid for this time. They had hot breakfast buffet options but we got to bed late so we slept in. I like free parking options and the value for the money if you actually get the room you pay for.

Overall I had a very unpleasant experience here. They booked me in a different room than I reserved. Then changed rooms, but accidentally checked me out at that time. Despite my being present for the two nights I booked, they charged me a "no show" fee for the second night (their error). They refused to refund me for this fee and told me to dispute it with Expedia. Again, it was their mistake, not Expedia's. The manager hung up on me after shouting over me as I tried to dispute her assertion that there was nothing they could do. Also, the facilities were in disrepair. There were broken tiles in the bathroom, the shower curtain wouldn't stay in place and water got all over the floor every time you shower. I didn't complain about these things because I know that nowhere is perfect. However, their response to the mistaken charge was so frustrating for me that I felt the need to write this review.

Overall the stay was ok. I didn’t appreciate the house keeping staff not changing the sheets, pillow case and blankets. They literally flipped it over and we can see the previous stains.

Check in was terrible booked through a 3rd party called the day before to come in a day early was told they were sold out that if our room was available we could check in early got to the hotel a hr before check in and they refused to check me in until 3 pm because i booled through a 3rd party

Great staff - always friendly. Property is off a highway but it's surprisingly quiet. Good sized rooms and they are pet friendly! This was a good choice for our short family trip.

This hotel was easy to get to and parking was great. Nice, quiet area and lovely staff. The condition of the hotel is a bit run down, like they're waiting to replace anything before a big renovation. It wasn't dirty, just stained chairs and a bit shabbier than other Holiday Inn Expresses I've stayed at. Breakfast was yummy and the beds were comfy.

Property is conveniently located along Midlothian Trnpk which has a lot of shopping and dining options. Not far from mall. Only complaint was the location of the desk in the room. It made it tight to get past the bed but we moved the chair to the side of the desk instead of in front of it and that gave us more room.

Good price for a stay in area for doctor appointment. Area didn’t like the best but I never felt unsafe.

Nice motel for an overnight stay. We liked it as it was quiet and not near a lot of shopping centers. Room was nice and service attentive. Our first room had a smell like mothballs so we were moved immediately to a new room. Some noise into the late hours with people banging doors. Quick check in and check out. Not much around if that is important.

The hotel was okay until morning breakfast. It was the worst service I have ever experienced at a hotel. They didn’t have enough food. They seem to be out of everything. On day two I found out that they only had one working oven so they could only cook one thing at a time. They ran out of eggs and basic morning staples. The staff on the first day just seemed pissed that we kept asking her for food. The second morning we had a lovely young lady who helped the best she could. She smiled at just kept pushing through to be of service. The only bright spot. It would have been less irritating if they would have told us about the issues when we checked in. That way we could have expected it and made other plans.

Great value and a nice room for our stay. It’s hard to find rooms that comfortably house our family of 5, but this was a two room suite for a great deal. The room could have used a deep clean but was fine. My kids were sad that the pancake machine wasnt working.

The breakfast was top notch. My teenage son said it was the best meal he had on vacation. I said you mean breakfast and he said, no meal...definitely above and beyond the typical hotel breakfast.

Overall, we had a nice stay. The double king suite was a huge room! No real major issues really but you can definitely tell an amateur does the renovations/repairs. The patch jobs in the bathroom and the literal wall sockets falling out of the wall in the "sitting room" are just a few to point out. I also wish they advertised that breakfast was from 7-10 and NOT 6-10 like it says posted everywhere on the website and onsite. We were there for a baseball tournament and that 6am time is crucial when you have to be on the field at 7am. Just disappointed but overall stay was as expected and room was clean and comfortable.
