Monterey Fairgrounds Inn

A bed and a shower, convenient free parking, friendly and fast check in, slow Wifi. No coffee facilities in room or on site. But it was cheap.

The pictures are a total scam this place is literally trash. It looks NOTHING like the photos. The office manager has two small dogs tied up outside that bark constantly. The place is falling apart, and more than half the property its caution taped off including the pool area and amenities. Plumbing sucks, the inside of the room had broken furniture and things left behind from the previous occupants. NEVER AGAIN. The cleaning lady was really nice, that’s the only good thing I have to say.

This place was gross. The fire alarm had been ripped out of the wall. Bedroom filthy. Room filthy. Pool was disgusting and green. Trash all over the parking lot, including tires. Hairs all over the place. Front door did not work. Sheets and towels dirty. We left and did not even stay there.

Property was under construction? My room had no lamp, paper keeping cabinets from opening and furniture falling apart. The bathroom had a faucet that needed repairing, cigarette burns on the bathroom counter as well. Im not sure my room had even been cleaned before i checked in. I found a razor and shampoo in my shower from the previous guest when i checked in and a blanket in the closet wadded up in the corner. Guaranteed this room wasnt cleaned. For $125 a night....i expected more.

The room was pretty bad... Pretty much everything in the room was broken in some way. The wifi was horrible, and the pool was closed. 2 key cards malfunctioned, and I watched a tweaker exercise with a brick. There was a hookers acrylic finger nail right outside my door. Staff was nice at least. A bum aslo hit us up for weed.

We had to ask for face cloths. The room floor was dirty and they had a coffee machine but no coffee to use in the machine. Building was on a hill so the parking lot was slopped and hard to find a spot to park. Very poorly managed, I don’t recommend this place.

Our room was dimly lit. Only one light and it was not that bright. Room did not have lamps or any other source of light. Small tv with only local channels and cable TV like in an early 2000s hotel. Pool was closed. The room seemed like it was being renovated. There was a huge mirror just leaning against the toilet. And screws left on bathroom cabinet. The bathroom mirror was dangerously hanging with only 2 screws. Water pressure was really low in the shower. Small refrigerator made a loud sound all night. Fire alarms flashed us all night looked like they were low on batteries. Just old and outdated.paper thin walls, you can hear everything!!!

FYI, I stay at cheap motels all around the world. This one was THE WORST. There were filthy, used towels and wet, used, half bay of soap in the bathroom. When I exchanged them for clean ones, the “clean” ones had hairballs attached. The floor was so grimy that I had to wash my feet after walking around the room. Trash was present on the doorstep, the sidewalk, and all around the property. No chairs were available in any of the rooms, even upon request. The Wi-Fi didn’t work. Customers are required to pay for ice from the ice machine. So grossly unsanitary and uncomfortable, I checked out the next morning at 8 AM instead of staying for the entire weekend. The staff in the office were friendly and polite.

WiFi was fast & reliable. Air conditioning worked great & kept the room at a nice temperature. Parking was a bit tough (tight squeeze) but the staff was incredibly friendly and accommodating.

It was nothing like it was described! Sounded cool from description but it was a dumpy hotell. Not even an ice machine. Key didn't work several times It is a good location but a Motel 6 would have much better. We really wished we hadn't booked 2 nights. We really didn't want to go back second night. Ive never stayed in such crummy hotel and I've stayed in a lot of cheap hotels

The sheets were starched but stained dirty. There were two sad little pillows on my king bed. There were three towels in the bathroom - a washcloth, a towel to stand on, and a thin small bath towel. The paint was peeling off the walls and someone had used toilet paper to plug the peephole in the front door. I literally only stayed because theres a no refund policy and I was exhausted after a very long day of driving and didn't have the fortitude to change locations. I slept on top of the covers on my picnic blanket. I would not recommend.

Our room was dirty and dusty. The floors were sticky. We did not have a trash can, cups to drink wanter, small towels or even a chair to sit on. The tub was dirty too. They did not leave an extra blanket for the chilly night. We had to walk down the parking lot at night to just ask for those basic items. This is a low budget hotel near the airport but even at that price, they should treat their guests more respecfullly.

I arrived at the property at 2:50 PM, ten minutes before the designated 3:00 PM check-in time. Upon checking in, I was given a key to my room, only to discover it had not been cleaned from the previous guest. The room was in unacceptable condition—dirty towels were scattered across the bathroom, the bed was unmade with used sheets, and trash was still present. I returned to inform the owner, who simply stated he would send someone to clean the room. There was no apology or acknowledgment of the inconvenience. I then had to wait approximately 20 minutes for a housekeeper to arrive, who unfortunately did not speak English. The owner, who also did not speak Spanish, had to rely on Google Translate to communicate with her, making the situation even more inefficient. As a result, I wasn’t able to settle into my room until after 4:00 PM. To make matters worse, the bed I was provided was unstable and clearly not a king size, despite having booked a king room. The bed frame appeared to be a flimsy piece of metal, adding to the overall sense that corners were being cut to save costs. Overall, this experience was disappointing, and I will not be booking at this property again.

This was by far my worst accommodation experience of my life. Sheets and pillowcases covered in black scruff marks including a shoe print. Staff did give us fresh pillows but couldn't change the sheets. Blood on the comforter. Hair and stains on the towels. Sticky grime on the floor. Windows had no fly screen so the windows opened straight to the outside. Our friends stayed in two other rooms and had the same experience including a broken AC/heater unit and blood stains on their towels. We literally could not make this up if we tried.

The microwave plate, faucet, tv remote, lamp bed, floor so dirty. The windows were so dusty. There were flies inside the room and all towels smells bad. I will not recommend this place and will never go back to this place again.

The room was so rundown. Holes in the walls, leaking air conditioning unit, no lights in the light fixtures. Beyond that there was a 2 inch gap under the door that made me feel unsafe like someone could stick a camera through or peep through. No blanket just a sheet on the bed. Instead of a regular chair it had an outdoor chair in the room. The hair dryer was covered in brown dirt. For $160 I consider this inn a complete rip off.

My room smelled like urine. No toilet paper or soap in the room - had to ask the front desk. Towels were dirty, I’m glad I had my own. Smoke detector hang from the ceiling with wires exposed. If I could’ve gotten a refund I would have gone somewhere else.

One of the worst places i ever stayed at. Room and sheets were dirty. Thank goodness it was only for one night.

Hotel prices in the area were outrageous so we knew we booked the most affordable stay we could find but this place was still $175 a night for a full size bed, old scratched mismatch furniture and unfinished bathroom remodels. The closest had no hangers and was missing a rod. The sheets where paper and the curtains where hanging on to a damage curtain rod. The WiFi didn’t reach our room and there was a green light on the ceiling that stayed on all night. This hotel should not be accepting reservations or at least charge under $100 a night.

Check-in/check-out was easy process. The rooms need a lot of renovations. Cigarette burn marks everywhere, non-smoking rooms smell like smoke, floor was uneven and coming apart,.

Beware this property has no lamps or lighting near bed other than a small overhead ceiling light by window and bathroom lights.First room by street is very dingy with weird stale odor.

-the room had a very sour smell - no waste bin in the bathroom - mold in the bathroom ceiling - door deadlock bolt broken - sliding window did not shut locked (first floor unit) - headboard lamps/power outlets not working - left over takeout from previous visitor in the mini fridge - bathroom door knob had loose collar plate, left over screw holes/screws on the bathroom walls (possible from removing the old mirror) + the beds were clean and comfortable + staff was polite and friendly

The rooms were run down and stank. Staff was accommodating and helpful.

We stayed 2 nights in August 2024, paid close to $650 for these nights and were shoved off to another "motel" because they were remodeling. No, they overbooked this one and didn\'t know where to go with us! This is highway robbery, totally! Nobody knew anything, no manager was available so we just had to take it. I will be filing a complaint with the BBB that these crooks get out of business as soon as possible. (I see they always respond with empty words, they do NOTHING to reimburse of satisfy travelers. Shame on you!)

The property is very run down and the area is very noisy. The room was cleaned but the floor was wet when we checked in, so used a floor mat to dry it and it came up filthy. Most of the trim and walls had dirt/mold on them and the shower drain was rusted. The exterior is under some kind of slow renovation because the framing work that was done has not been painted and the lumber has been sitting a while. The gentleman who checked us was very friendly and helpful, but for a hotel that was getting $500 for a premium weekend they need to up their game.

Smallish property. Competitive rates. Good people working hard. after a stay at another nearby location that was bait and switch...these folks and the young giy at the desk on friday about 6 was refreshing

Easy parking. Room was okay. Toilet was leaking in bathroom a little unsanitary. Talked to the office manager. He said he would give me a discount but haven't received any info yet .

Based on the photos, the property look nothing like what the photos represented, and it wasn’t till after we booked the room when we cannot get a refund that horrible review started to come forth I am physically disabled. I was placed on the second floor with two flights of stairs to get to my room, there is no elevator, the rooms were dirty, the linen was dirty. We used our own blankets to place over the bed. The furniture in the room was old and dirty. Our carbon monoxide monitor kept going off, so rather than replace the battery they came in and took it out, completely leaving us on safe And the most ridiculous part of our stay was the only kid size housekeeper who was so rude beyond belief told us she leaves at 11am and we should have asked to have room cleaned before she leaves for the day although check in is not until 3pm so how would we know the room sad not cleaned? We reported her behavior to management but nothing was done. The 2nd day same issue with housekeeper she literally argued with us because she failed to mop the nasty floor. So she finally shows up to clearness room & decides she would video record us in the room which is against the law in California as we ststed we did not give her permission to record I’d or our belongings but she was so rude and made the stay that much worse. I DEMAND A REFUND!

I liked everything, but was a little bit noisy at night.

This motel needs a lot of work! Has potential. Close to Cannery Row. Our room only had one light. Plumbing was leaking. Management was nice to put us in the handicap room, which was nice enough.

I would say you get what you pay for this area. The room was kind of gross . However the staff was extremely friendly and helpful ! If you are light sleeper the airplanes flying over top will be waking you up throughout night

The room was old and not cleaned well. Definitely a low star hotel. HOWEVER, the staff was VERY nice/friendly and it is located less than a block from the fairgrounds which is what we were there to visit.

Came here for a business trip, working the Caliroots festival. Convenient location next to the venue that I worked at. The outside of the property is a bit sketchy, but the service is great! The rooms on the hill can be scary too get to, but the room itself is spacious. Microwave and mini fridge included. Also wifi and parking.

It was definitely affordable thats a plus but there was a weird smell outside and the noise was unreal

The bed was super uncomfortable. Bed sheets were ripped. Toilet looks like it has never been cleaned. Stains all over the curtains. Smells awful. I don’t know why but it sounded like someone was trying to get into our room at least 5 times a day. Next to the road so it was super loud. Constantly hear planes flying over. The microwave looks like they never cleaned it. Also, no plate in the microwave. Customer service was nice but even the office looked like someone lives in it.

Convenient to Monterey fairgrounds. Clean but run down. Thought I had booked the sister hotel across the street but got put in the dumpy place across the street. Never again.

It was a perfectly fine place to stay with absolutely nothing fancy. As is common with inexpensive hotels, many things were a bit wonky or unfinished. But the beds were nice and firm and it had a refrigerator, coffee maker, TV, and microwave. Fo4 the price, it worked for me.
