Pell Hotel JdV by Hyatt

The Pell is an adorable remodel of an old motel. The lobby, sitting areas, bar and restaurant are lovely, comfortable and modern. The rooms are minimalistic, clean and comfortable. The sheets are amazing, crisp and smooth. The toiletries smell great and the water is soft. The Gym is well equipped with new Peletons, treadmills and dumbbells. It is bright and spacious enough. The staff all went out of their way to be helpful and kind finding paying cards for us and a phone charger to borrow while I was there. We enjoyed the bar staff and the quality of the food for evening snack and breakfast. And all reasonably priced.

When staying downtown Newport is prohibitive this property is a great and practical alternative with free parking. This property was beautifully renovated by Hyatt and it is really a hidden gem once you get there. It is 10 minutes away from the action by car, you have all the typical close suburbia retail options nearby too. The rooms are big, well appointed, great beds and linens, great bathrooms as well. A lot of nicely appointed common spaces to hang out in and work. Finally the staff is very nice and helpful. One caveat, there is no elevator so getting up the stairs with suitcases can be challenging for some but on arrival the desk agent took ours up for us. Great stay thanks!

Nice hotel. Very clean. Restaurant was good but a little pricey. We stayed here on our way to the Gilded Homes. So, pretty convenient. Would stay here again. oh, btw, there is no elevator. So, if that's an issue, request a 1st floor room.

The staff were all so kind to my kids and made sure we all had a great stay. We enjoyed the many common areas for gathering as a group. My kids absolutely loved finding the ducks the staff hid around the hotel for them!

It was a lovely stay. We enjoyed the free waters and coffee and enjoyed the lawn we could sit and enjoy the sun. Though we wish there was a pool we did make the best of it considering how close the beach was.

We had a very good stay at The Pell. I found the hotel during an Expedia search and was impressed once we arrived. The staff was amazing, in particular the front desk staff and the breakfast server. Our room was clean and well appointed. There is plenty of onsite parking and location was perfect for travel between Bristol and Newport.

The hotel is beautiful, the room as well and very spacious and comfortable. Staff very friendly and offered good recommendations. Only complaint we had was that housekeeping left out door open after servicing the room. Thankfully we stopped by the hotel to grab something during the day and noticed. One note is that hotel doesn’t have an elevator but they help you take them up. Great coffee machine in the room

Very modern and updated. Clean and comfortable. I felt the price was reasonable. Nice amenities there with a restaurant/bar, a big common living room. Staff was pleasant and responsive. Nice coffee maker and small fridge in the room It only lacked a nice outdoor seating area/courtyard. That would put this over the top

Very nice property which seemed to be recently redone. Just know there is no elevator but the staff will take luggage to the second floor. Also had a credit for the restaurant which was decent.

Updated recently. Very clean and modern. The lobby "living room" area had a fireplace and sofa with chairs that was nice to sit and have drinks, and mingle with others. It was located right across the bar. Everyone was friendly too, both staff and other customers.

Extremely clean and new. Well worth the price for this area. Excellent restaurant with a great hot breakfast too. Discount for hotel guests.

The room smelled …

Unwelcoming front desk, and the dirty sheets were enough for us. (I work in customer service, did not even meet expectations)

Incredibly clean and good sized room. The staff goes out of their way to be friendly. This place is obviously run by real hospitality pros.

Room was very clean, staff was courteous and the price of the room was very reasonable, overall we had a great stay. We hope to return soon!

This was an unexpected surprise. The hotel was in a nice residential area and it was very quiet. The room was nice and clean. Although I didn’t require daily housekeeping services, housekeeping did come by everyday and left a note under the door saying they were sorry they missed the opportunity to clean the room. I would stay at The Pell again.

Spotless room, friendly staff. A last minute booking for a quick getaway. We would highly recommend this property for a stay in the Newport area. One of the cleanest places we have stayed.

The bed was too soft and rather uncomfortable, and the room had a slightly damp smell, although it was very clean – likely due to the humidity of the town. We had breakfast in the restaurant one day and and it was good and good value. Overall, the staff seemed very attentive in the hotel.

I would’ve given more overall star’s, but the noise level in the room above us was bad. Sounded like there was a big dog up there running back and forth. Either they were throwing a ball back and the dog was running for it or the person was very heavy footed. It would start at 5:30am. Sleep was very interrupted by this. I spoke to the front desk on the second day and they said it was just one person in there with no dog. I think they snuck it in there then. Anyway, cute place but walks are thin!

Clean and good size room. Bathroom would benefit for more counter or shelf space for personal items.

Easy to get into Newport. Room was large and clean.

Everything was great, the only issue was that the sound insulation was very poor. I could hear everyone on either side of my wall and above me. This made my stay feel less private and made sleep difficult.

Updated, quiet, spacious rooms with a nespresso! My one request for our next stay is a softer pillow option.

Great hotel! Staff were wonderful. Check in was easy. Please note there are no elevators. You may need to request a room on the first floor. The renovations are beautiful. The room was clean and bright. Spacious room and bathroom. The only negative thing is the street noise. The hotel is close to a busy road. It was hard to sleep. Perhaps requesting a room at the backside of the hotel would be better.

Nice size room.

We booked a queen bed and received a full. They did nothing to try to solve the problem or compensate us. I would never in 1 million years book a room that had a full-size bed for 2 adults. Not only that, there was a spotlight pointing directly at our window all night and the curtain did not block it in the least. The creamer was curdled, the shower door didn’t close, the body wash was empty.

The property is amazing and the staff is super nice. Like I have never had such a great experience from the full staff at a hotel. The restaurant is amazing. Great quality of food and the bartenders are great. The only negative is the walls are super thin. You can hear every guest above and next to you. So get prepared if you are a light sleeper

The customer service was top notch! I also loved the amenities. The staff went over and aboard to ensure our comfort by providing an in room microwave. We will definitely return next year.

I wasn’t sure what I was getting into. I just went by the reviews that I seen. I checked in earlier today and everything has gone well - the place is stylish, but what has stood out the most is the impeccable customer service from the front desk concierge – Tobi has gone above and beyond and has outshined my expectations of my stay. She is the perfect example of how customer service should be and if I ran this company, I’d give her a promotion and have her train your other concierge front desk personnel on how to do their job the way it should be done.

Bartenders and housekeeping staff are friendly and rooms are clean. As hotel I was not happy to discover I had to hall my luggage up 3 flights of stairs. At 68, an offer of help would have been nice. Phone in room wouldn’t front call desk, and I had to tighten toilet seat bolts to make using it less adventurous. Lighting is poor, and 2 people sitting up in bed causes the mattress to slide of the end. Experience was less than I expected given the brand.

We checked into the Pell Hyatt on 6/9. Upon check out we were shocked to see a $500 smoking fee charged. We strongly denied smoking and had a heated exchange with Eric the manager at the property. Eric went upstairs and smelled the room and by his own admission smelled nothing smoke like. The only possible thing that could have tripped that sensor was my hair appliance which is a hair dryer brush. It is applied directly on wet hair and gets very hot. We were told this is impossible, the sensor is never wrong and that we are liars along with anyone else who claims this which if you look at this property’s reviews was only a few weeks ago when a nurse also claimed this. We later found out the device tripped again, right before we checked out and dried my hair a short time before Eric went into the room himself and smelled no smoke. After a follow up call Eric did credit us for half the fee only because the $500 would not have to be used to clean because there was no smell of smoke. While we appreciate this it is not enough because we did not smoke or vape and wonder what they will do with the other $250 being it is not needed to clean. Hyatt may beat us out of the $250 but have so much more to lose in future business and reputation. Calling your guests liars and not even checking that maybe you are in fact wrong. Eric has also declined to respond to follow up emails so we are hoping someone from Hyatt will reach out to try and remedy this wrong.

Brandon, at the front desk, was a true professional. Friendly, informative and checked all the boxes for our special requests on a sold out night. Hotel is freshly remodeled, super clean and a great option when visiting Newport. We will be back!

My husband and I stayed at The Pell in Middletown, Rhode Island ro celebrate our anniversary. From the moment we walked in the door, we were greeted by the front desk clerk, Jason who was very kind and pleasant who went above and beyond to make sure that we had a special stay. The Manager of the restaurant on site, Anthony, was also at the desk, he was also very pleasant. We had many coversations and laughs with him, he also went above and beyond to make our stay special. The entire hotel is inviting, bright and spotless, our room was on the 2nd floor, Jason asked to help with our bags as there is no elevator. The room was perfect, overlooking the back yard, which is complete with lawn games and plenty of seating. Again, everything in our room was spotless and comfortable, a dinette table and chairs included. The bathroom is spacious and spotless, the only thing missing was a hairdryer, thankfully I brought my own. The hotel is convenient to Newport only about a 10 minute drive. If in the area, definitely stay here, we will definitely stay there again as the entire staff is amazing and the hotel is spotless and has plenty of free parking!

This hotel is gorgeous and conveniently located near Newport at half the price of Newport hotels. The staff that greeted us upon entering clearly should not work in hospitality. The woman who checked us in on April 5, 2025 did not want to be bothered. She asked for a credit card for incidentals and said my card would not be charged but as soon as I got to my room, my card was charged. When I asked her about it, she said the charge will come off after my stay. 5-7 business days later. She shouldn't have said it wouldn't charge in the first place. The gentleman who worked in the afternoon was so nice. He offered us a microwave, kettle, and to remove our trash before we got back to our room in the evening. When we checked out, we saw the same lady that checked us in and she was still in the same "I can't be bothered" attitude. She doesn't smile, no pleasantries, nothing. Just having a bad weekend at our expense. I love the hotel but not enough to have her work the check-in/out desk.

We had a great stay at The Pell. The property is very clean and modern, with a thoughtful design that offers plenty of cute spaces to work or relax. While the immediate area around the hotel is more commercial, it's only a short drive to all the main Newport attractions and the beach. We really enjoyed our stay and would definitely return.

The Pell was convenient to the downtown area. Very clean, comfortable beds, fluffy linens. Could grab a quick breakfast before heading out. Would stay again and recommend to family and friends!

Updated hotel with a nice gym and great breakfast! Parking was easy. My only complaint would be the location being on a busy road and nowhere to easily walk or sit outside.

The hotel is nice. The room was very clean and the bed was so comfortable. It was further away from the water than expected. We ubered to Bowen’s Wharf for dinner for about $12.00. We would probably look for something closer to the waterfront next time.

Nicely renovated hotel. This was the first time in memory I was not scared to walk barefoot on the carpet in a hotel. However if you have a choice do not get a room with others above. We think there were elephants in the room above. The diner options for breakfast seemed a bit pricey and unequal. The hubs got 3 sausages, 2 eggs, home fries and toast. For the same price I got 1 piece of avocado toast. On thin bread.

The stay was great! Exceeded my expectations honestly. Food was incredible as a plus.

The room was very clean with updated amenities. The beds were very comfortable. Staff was welcoming and friendly and we appreciated that we were able to check in a bit early. We enjoyed the sitting area off the lobby with the gas fireplace. The only place for improvement was the breakfast. The restaurant was very understaffed for a Sunday morning and the food was rather underwhelming after a long-ish wait. However, huge shout out to the young man working the restaurant during our breakfast service - he was composed, friendly and worked hard to bus tables, take orders, serve as host, and make sure guests had what they needed. Overall, we had a pleasant experience at The Pell, but would skip the breakfast next time.

Excellent hotel, restaurant was expensive but convenient

Amazing stay!! Shoutout to providing free water :) The Helmway food was a bit overpriced, but I can’t complain about the food so it didn’t even matter lol. The only ‘complaint’ I would have is that the walls in the rooms must be thin because we could hear almost everything going on with whoever stayed in the rooms next door. Anyways, staff was amazing, food was amazing, housekeeping was amazing, room was great & very very clean. We would for sure stay here again.
