St James Hotel BW Premier Collection

Really handy to visit the sights in Nottingham. Short walk into the town. Ground floor and bar very lush looking. The room was nice, shame only one English teabag in the room. The views from the room was not great, one overlooked the car park, the other faced another building. However was quiet at night time. Although the hotel has a car park there are only actually 10 places, and there is a cost. We had to use the NCP carpark next door which added £30 to our weekend stay. But was nice not to have to worry about using the car. having said that if you are prepared for that it was a good location, right near the Castle . The caves in town are definitely worth seeing and the tour guide there was really good. We had a good weekend and will visit Nottingham again.

The entrance area of the hotel looks quite impressive, but check-in is strictly from 2 p.m. I arrived a bit earlier and had to wait. My first room, Room 303, was extremely small. The bathroom was a reasonable size compared to the rest of the room, but overall it was about half the size of other rooms I later saw (such as 304, 308, or 312). It was listed as a Standard Room, 1 Double Bed, Non Smoking (Small Room) — and “small” is an understatement. Realistically, it’s suitable only for one person; for two, it would be uncomfortably cramped. There was no proper space for luggage, so I had to keep my suitcase on a chair. The view was poor as well. To make matters worse, I was kept awake by a metallic clinking noise outside the room. I recorded the noise and showed it to the concierge, who kindly moved me to Room 517. This second room was a big improvement — more spacious, better furnished, and it even had a coffee machine. My booking didn’t include breakfast. The so-called “gym” or “toning room” was another disappointment. It was a tiny, awkward space squeezed between two floors, containing only a few weights and a bench. It really shouldn’t be advertised as a gym. While the lobby and entrance give a good first impression, the rooms themselves are dated, with scuffed furniture, mould on the bathroom door, and a dirty shower head. It’s very much a case of style over substance. At £90 per night for the small room, the value was poor — Hilton nearby charged £104 with b’fast

From the outside the hotel looks lovely, but once you step through the front door you are met with a mirrored purple palace akin to somewhere Del Boy would stay (for those familiar with that classic British programme). One of the lifts was out of order, and the other one was so slow it seemed to take an age to come to a stop at our floor; we even overheard other customers commenting on it. And the foyer smelt like cigarette smoke. The room decor was…interesting. Again, more purple, crushed velvet and pvc leather bed cushions. I was half expecting a mirrored ceiling, and couldn’t bring myself to sit on the crushed velvet sofa on account of the dodgy looking stains. The walls were scuffed/chipped and the toilet roll holder fell off the wall the first time I used it. The shower was hot, but low pressure, and the shower tray immediately backed up and didn’t drain properly, so I had to shower in bursts to give the tray a chance of draining and not overflowing. Plus point: the bed was comfortable. Overall: disappointed. I wouldn’t rate the hotel as 4*

Only here for a night and out most of it but the hotel was clean and the bed comfortable - bathroom was refurbished and the shower was great. The hotel is a stones throw from Nottingham Castle and directly next to an NCP car park. Only had drinks in the bar on the afternoon - it had closed when we got back at 11:15pm which was a shame as there were still people in it. Handy parking next door if you have the NCP app as it reduces the overnight stay from £15 to £10.95.

Good option in city centre, close to attractions and, if you must, shops. I was only there for one night for a concert and it was fine. If you want to use the hotel parking, you need to book as there are only 10 spaces

Struggled to find the place got sat navved. The room was not huge but the bed was very comfortable I got some quality sleep and the breakfast was very good with a wide choice. Very convenient for the city centre. Car parking was a touch expensive £15.95 for 24hrs in the old narrow laned multi storey virtually next door. I could have saved some money getting the NCP app prior then it would have been £9. But it was all a bit last minute as I had been bumped from a booking elsewhere that fell through.

Great location, oarking right next door all simple to check in. Plenty breakfast if you want to fill your boots.

Good location but somewhat tired. I pre-booked the hotels underground car parking. If you do this be aware it is around 400m away and do not use if you have a large car! It’s tight, really tight…

The hotel is lovely, just opposite the castle and a short walk from the centre. The room was beautifully designed and despite being very small (but I knew that before going) it was comfortable. There's no A/C, which could have been a problem since the weather was unseasonably hot, but they did provide a small fan, which did the trick. The bathroom was also quite small, but again, perfect for my needs. I somehow didn't manage to figure out how to lower the temperature of the water, but it was bearable. The daily housekeeping was good and efficient. My only complaint is that the carpet looked really dirty and definitely needs a good scrub, or to be replaced altogether.

Overall, there is nothing wrong with the place, the staff were friendly and helpful, the reception is nice, the car park facilities are very close and reasonably priced for a 24 hour stay. However the property does seem to be a little warn around the edges and like it could do with some TLC, with scuff marks on the walls and the shower head being damaged and leaking water from somewhere you don't want it to. Also, really pedantic point and not a criticism per se, but hr lift door is SOOO SLOOOOWWW! Other than that, lovely hotel great comfortable stay and would use the place again if we needed to.

My room looked quite run down and in need of renovations. The windows were dirty. The bathroom taps had pieces missing. The room key card connects up the power to the room, but this created a constant loud humming noise so I had to take the key out and have no power to the room in order to sleep. Mine was a double room, but it was two singles pushed together making it uncomfortable if lying near the middle. I wouldn’t recommend their parking garage either. It’s very narrow and difficult to manoeuvre around it and I ended up scratching my car against a pillar trying to get out. The staff however were nice and polite and helpful. It was also pretty quiet at night. Overall pretty mixed feelings about this hotel.

Linens were fresh. Towels big and thick. Carpet in the room was very dirty. I do yoga in the morning and it was not very pleasant. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Parking was easy.

Tired room. Bathroom was poor a leaking shower hose in multiple places, toilet seat hanging off, thick dust around sink.

The staff were friendly and helpful. The room was clean. Although the kettle was to far away from a plug socket. Maybe move the try nearer so you don’t have to move the kettle. In the bathroom the toilet roll holders were cheap and falling off the wall. They were also dangerous as they stuck out over the door frame and my sister actually caught herself on it and had cuts on her side which were bleeding. The hotel was very dark, the bar toilets were like walking into a sleazy nightclub as were the lifts. The carpets in the lobby and bar area needed a hoover as there were bits all over it. Definitely not been cleaned that day maybe even longer!

We got an room that had a lot of wear and tear. Found coins on the floor, showing that ceaning was poor. Polite staff and a nice breakfast. Maybe we was just unfortunate with the room?

The staff were very helpful and friendly but the condition of the rooms were poor. Sink unit was cracked, lots of rust and scuffed paint. Needs an update to be reasonable again.

Staff were brilliant, lobby and communal areas were lovely. Overall a good stay and would stay again. The room was nice and cool with a comfy, clean bed and a good TV. On a small note, For what we paid for the room (£115 midweek) i would have expected a little bit more from the room. It was in need of some repair, peeling paint, cracks in ceiling, marks on walls, the shower screen was broken, and the sealant in the bathroom was mouldy.

Lovely hotel however could do with fan or something as so unbearably hot in the room and could not sleep. Need to consider changes in UK and invest in some aircon

Excellent location, nice and clean, comfy bed. Rooms are small and bathrooms are dated but great value

One night at cheap rate so no real complaint as the booking was for a small double. That it certainly was with virtually a baby bath. But again there was a very nice powerful shower. Everything very cramped. Had to squeeze down both sides of bed. The proverbial couldn't swing a cat but fine for one night and light luggage. Would stay again at the price (£45).

A comfortable hotel, in good condition and really handy location. Staff friendly. Room could do with air con but other than that all good

+ Great central location, pleasant decor in the room, nice White Company toiletteries. - No soundproofing so not great for light sleepers or for working from the room; hotel didn’t seem particularly busy but no access to the room was given before 2pm

A little tired in the bathroom and bedroom radiator was permanently on with no turn down facility and the room became too hot. Window did help cool things down but there was an element of noise outside even on the 6 th floor. The staff were very courteous and helpful.

Location of the Hotel is good and quiet but the rooms are already dated and would need freshing up.

Happy to be staying here again after work in the area. Bedroom and bathroom both a good size. Comfy bed. Overall a good stay but not great internal and external soundproofing, could hear noise from bedrooms across the corridor including alarms going off in the morning. There was a beeping/chirping noise outside that continued until around midnight, closing the windows did not shut this out. Other than that, the surrounding area is surprisingly quiet. You also need to be relatively physically fit to reach the windows to open/close them. The toilet needs a substantial amount of force on the flush for it to work. On balance though, I'm satisfied with my 1-night stay here and I'll book the St James Hotel again if it continues to be great value for money.

Stayed one night, check in fine, staff friendly, room was clean, quiet and well stocked, convenient for all city centre locations and chargeable parking available close by. All in all a nice stay, only negative was trying to get breakfast the next morning. No staff around anywhere despite a sign asking guests to wait to be seated. Eventually the few of us queueing gave up waiting and entered anyway, but we then struggled to find places to sit as many of the available tables were used and had not been cleared or cleaned. Nice breakfast though and plenty of choice.

This is a lovely hotel that is well located right near Nottingham Castle and loads of food and dining options. Our check in was great and a really nice man fixed up a booking error (careful - I booked a double room for my husband and I but was given a ‘crash pad’ which I’ve never heard of and it’s a single). We ended up in a wheelchair room which I don’t like the shower but better than sleeping on a single bed! The only sour point was the barman/waiter. He was rude and dismissive and although we’d planned to have drinks and dinner at the hotel his attitude resulted in us leaving and finding somewhere else. We would definitely stay here again though!

Someone came in my room while I was out and went through my bags. Lap top charger missing

Not a Premier quality more average but location is good On check-in asked about disabled parking and was directed to the multi storie park which is not that accessible when the car park outside the door was available. Why? Because the discount was easier in the multi-storie whereas outside required the use of the NCP App. a) I’d rather pay extra if it means a shorter walk b) I maybe a boomer but, I still can negotiate an app give people the option Poor directions by the reception staff

Second trip so knew hotel. Room was good althoughcould do with a refresh. Mugs were very small and stingy with tea bags (x2 English breakfast) you dont always think at 11pm to ask for more. Warning about check-in thiugj we arrived 45 nins before 2pm. Receptionist told us to come back after 2 (which we knew was the check in time) but she didnt even check to see if room was available and said it would be a £15 charge to check in early (45 mins!). We came back 30 mins later and she was checking in people before 2pm so its just a way of getting more money put of people. I can understand if we were 2/3 hours early.

First room had a cracked sink and a toilet that didn’t flush, but the lovely staff were able to move me to a different room that was in MUCH better condition.

Night porter on duty on 21/06/25 at 11.15pm was incredibly rude and condescending when we asked if anyone had handed in a 2 litre water bottle.

The hotel staff was amazing. The room was clean and comfortable. No faults in it. The receptionists were lovely upon greeting and when I requested quite a few things from the reception (more coffee, extra towels etc) even when I had to talk to them again as they missed something they were really kind and eager to help. Upon checking out I left my belongings at the hotel, they kept it stored nicely near the reception desk and the lady was really nice when I retrieved them. Honestly the best experience in the hotel I’ve ever had. It was my second time staying there and i definitely will come back over and over.

A great location next to the Castle, oldest pub and super restaurants . Car park is a little awkward and its pot luck whether the exit/ entrance will be clear ( not the hotels fault!) Do drop your luggage off first as theres no direct access via car park. I damaged my calf muscle at the beginning of my stay and the staff could not have been more helpful and considerate. Special shout out to 'Alex'(f) and 'Maddie' who really went the extra mile. Would stay again.

Enjoyed our stay; nice welcome on arrival, useful information provided about parking (next to the hotel). Spacious rooms, all very clean, huge bed. Excellent breakfast, good food and plenty of it for the hungry. Also very very convenient for central Nottingham.

the staff were very helpful and friendly. the room was clean. the continental breakfast was really bad. so bad i felt ripped off. there were maybe a dozen people downstairs and everyone seemed equally disappointed by it. definitely do not pay for the continental breakfast, it's terrible.

When tried ordering room service got told: "I'm busy, call me back in a minute". Food quality was average at best and breakfast was more than disappointing for this price.

Beautiful hotel and lovely rooms with nice touches such as sleep mist by your bed. Had thought we would dine there but very much just a bar despite its claim. That said breakfast was hot and lovely.

I don't usually leave reviews but I feel necessary on this occasion. The twin room was very outdated and not up to standard considering the star rating of the hotel. Various factors such as paint scuffs, stains on the worn carpet, old bath, sink, fixtures and fittings. Did not feel it was worth the price we paid and certainly didn't feel luxury. Should have chosen other nearby alternatives. On the plus side it was a nice breakfast.

I stayed for one night to go see Alison Moyet at the Royal Concert Hall. I really enjoyed my stay. I got a good upgrade for a small extra cost and the breakfast was excellent. My room looked really impressive and it had a good telly and kettle and everything worked well. My bathroom had an actual bath which was a bonus and the temperature was perfect and it had nice windows that opened. The staff were all really nice and they are a credit to the brand

Nice hotel. Great location. Only slight let down was breakfast. Hot food had all but run out. Had to wait for it to be restocked and then was waiting for eggs, which eventually came after we had finished

Decent city centre hotel. Clean & comfortable although the decor was a bit dated. Good choice & quality of breakfast.
