Just be aware of what this is - it is a "guesthouse" - so DON'T expect it to be a 4-star hotel on a great deal. The room was nice, but they seem to have engaged in a box-checking exercise to achieve 4 stars for the room (like having portable air-conditioners going out of the windows) without the feeling of a 4-star hotel There are no public spaces whatsover. The location is very central, but unfortunately this means that it looks right over the wooden benches on Broad street, where you will likely have teenagers hanging out and making lots of noise until well past midnight. Parking is also on your own, which will be super expensive.

Lovely welcome and small but lovely room. They were happy to atore my bag before and after check-in. Really helpful and friendly staff. Very central. It is up a lot of stairs so not suitable if you have mobility issues.

I stayed at The Buttery Hotel for one night. I had requested a street facing room but in retrospect, a non -street facing room might have been quieter as there was noise from people in the street well after midnight. It was a very comfortable room, bed, bathroom. Check-in was easy once I found the hotel and person who checked me in was very and offered to carry my bag up to my room which was about 32 steps upstairs. I was also able to leave my bag at the hotel the next day so that it could be securely stored while I was out and about in Oxford before leaving by train late that day. I think it is a great option for 1 - 3 nights, not a luxury hotel but far more affordable. Just be prepared for many narrow steps.

The best part of staying at the Buttery is its central location in the very heart of Oxford and proximity to public transportation. The property is aging, and you have to negotiate narrow staircases with luggage. It's really not a hotel experience but a private room.

Very central to collages, dinning etc. Nice size room with window air con. Coffee/ tea and comp cookies. Nice large bathroom however no where to place toilet bag, clothes ,no stand or table, but plenty of space for that. No where to park close by or drop off.. Had large suitcase and had to drag it up 4 flights of steps. Car park was quit a walk away with cases and the price to park was extausanate..

It's a small hotel on one of Oxford's main streets next to some of the prominent universities and sights to visit. No restaurant, but a discount offered in a cafe next to the property.

This is a wonderful cozy spot near everything in the center. And for my tastes, so close to Waterstones Books. The only reason I did not give it 5 stars is the lack of elevator. The narrow steep winding stairs are a bit precarious. However, the staff was proactively helpful and they carried my luggage up to the room and back. So … no real problem.

I loved staying at the Buttery! The location was perfectly centralized and you could walk to everything. The room was clean, cool, and I appreciated the daily tea and water that was replenished in the room. It was also very quiet, despite being so centralized. And reasonable!!! I highly recommend the Buttery.

We liked: Old fashioned property with local charm. Walkable to everything that Oxford has to offer, the university, shopping, culture, pubs. Short walk also to bus depot and train station. The room was spotless. The bathroom modern and well appointed. The staff was friendly and helped with our luggage. If you are in need of ambulatory assistance or not in good physical condition, you should request a room on the first floor. We are in our 70s. The stairway to our 3rd floor room was narrow and somewhat trying. When you check in request a top sheet for the bed. The quilt was way too thick and hot.

Great location very easy to walk about Oxford centre. Had a 'Superior Front Facing Double Ensuite' for two nights, large and clean, but let down by a number of faults in the bathroom (loose towel rails, loose sink tap, leaking toilet cistern and poorly sealed shower screen). Decor also not giving a 'premium' feel. However bed comfortable and room quiet, so good nights rest! Staff friendly and welcoming. Have stayed here before but not in a 'superior' room, cannot beat the location!

Our room was clean and well laid out. The bathroom was a good size, good powerful shower. The bed was comfortable, bedding was good. Nice towels and toiletries provided. Staff were friendly and helpful. Location is excellent. Would stay again.

I really liked this place. The location was AMAZING! Easy to find. The staff was extremely friendly. The room we had was very clean and spacious. The shower had great water pressure and got hot. Only complaint was the bed (didn’t have much support).

The hotel is clean and conveniently located. We stayed in a front-facing room which was spacious and had views of a beautiful building across the way. We were able to store our luggage for a few hours and explore Oxford more freely on our last day. Would stay there again.

A lovely hotel—fair price for the area, a superb location within walking distance to basically everything downtown, a clean room with a comfortable bed, newly renovated bathroom with excellent water pressure in the shower, and coffee, tea, water and cookies available daily in the room. I would’ve liked a small fridge to store perishable snacks in but that’s not a deal-breaker and I’m sure it would get expensive with the electricity. 10/10 would recommend, I’ll definitely stay here again for my next trip!

This is a charming boutique hotel right on a pedestrian street that has food vendors, kiosks selling souvenirs and trinkets, live music, and a carousel. Very well situated! My only complaint is that the floor was very creaky, meaning that I could hear other patrons getting up in the night.

We had an excellent stay at the buttery. It was a very convenient location and the room was very suitable. There was plenty of storage, places to sit, and it was easy to access outlets for charging our devices. The showers and bathroom were nice and the air conditioning was very effective. During the day, there was some noise from the street but at night it had become completely quiet.

The room was large and the location excellent. But - the bed sagged, the windows were ill fitted so a lot of noise from the street, and the curtains were short so a lot of street light. All made for poor sleep.

Great location. Room was pretty big! Loved the cozy vibe. Lots going on around the hotel so my day time nap wasn’t ideal but that’s not the hotel’s fault. Worth noting it’s a lively area though. Staff was super helpful.

This was my fifth stay at the Buttery. Its location is superb. I always prefer a room at the back, as Broad Street during term time can be a bit noisy at night, but this time my room was blissfully quiet even though there was a Christmas Fair going on outside in the front. The room/bed/bathroom were all wonderful and well equipped as usual. Staff are fabulous -- extremely helpful and kind. The stairs can be a challenge (no elevator) but I was able to get help with my suitcase. Charming view from the window of medieval colleges and other buildings. I just love staying at the Buttery.

Friendly staff in the building and shop neighbors helped us find the entrance which is a little tucked away. The steps are fairly steep and winding but hand rails are well kept. Rooms are spacious and kept clean and the staff is attentive to the room each night. Very conveniently located to many Oxford destinations and easy to find a meal nearby.

I always prefer a room at the back, as Broad Street during term time can be a bit noisy at night, but this time my room was blissfully quiet even though there was a Christmas Fair going on outside in the front. The room/bed/bathroom were all wonderful and well equipped as usual. Staff are fabulous -- extremely helpful and kind. The stairs can be a challenge (no elevator) but I was able to get help with my suitcase. Charming view from the window of medieval colleges and other buildings. I just love staying at the Buttery.

Clean, friendly, and a fantastic location across from Balliol College. That said, our room faced Broad Street which can be a little noisy at night. Also, the rooms are located above the shops and require navigating somewhat narrow and steep staircases.

Enjoyed a lovely stay in Oxford for my daughters graduation. The Buttery was perfectly located, the staff very friendly and helpful. The room was a decent size, although a bit dated. Tea and coffee tray provided, no breakfast option, plenty of restaurants/cafes nearby.

Very central to collages, dinning etc. Nice size room with window air con. Coffee/ tea and comp cookies. Nice large bathroom however no where to place toilet bag, clothes ,no stand or table, but plenty of space for that. No where to park close by or drop off.. Had large suitcase and had to drag it up 4 flights of steps. Car park was quit a walk away with cases and the price to park was extausanate..

The hotel frontage is extremely small. Blink and you will miss it. Lots of narrow stairs to navigate. (No lift. Old book shop). Room was spacious. With TV and tea making facilities. Bathroom ok. But shower was a little temperamental. Location is very central to all attractions and railway station.
