Stayed in the city for the weekend, we were at the end of the hall and it was surprisingly quiet. It did get warm in the room during the day but there is an additional small fan in the room so it was okay. Parking is not bad for SF it is pricey ($39 per night valet w in and out privileges) It also a plus that the hotel is close to a lot of food and bar, cable car is right outside. Would definitely stay again

This is a well-maintained tourist hotel. It is just a block up from Union Square, very near the Powell Street Muni/Bart stop on Market Street, so it is centrally located The room was very tidy and cozy. Internet was very reliable. They offer coffee and cookies and apples in the lobby 24/7. The bar has a happy hour that seems quite reasonable. There are very good restaurants within a reasonable walk, some of them classic, old school San Francisco restaurants, in business 50 or 100 years.

The room was small, but it's a historic property which isn't surprising. Bathroom was small and dated but VERY clean, which is important to us. Bed was soft, and they had a list of interesting pillows you could request if you wanted (like a full body pillow, memory foam, etc.) Free apples, cookies, tea, and coffee in the lobby. Cons: Room faced the street, so you could hear the cable cars and street noise. The walls were also paper thin -- could hear the person in the room next to us having a loud convo at 7 AM. Overall, very convenient to shopping, dining, and transit. We'd stay there again.

Clean, quiet, well located, friendly and helpful staff. Parking is right across the street and it quite reasonable compared to other hotels. Cable car runs literally in front of the hotel. You get free cookies, free fruits at the counter. There is also a water filter at the lobby

I would rate my experience higher if not for the nonworking safe (did not report), and non working TV, reported and maintenance came immediately to adjust. One bedside lamp has burned bulb (did not report.) My room on the 2nd floor has no view. There is a small bathroom with a deep tub. There’s a rubber ducky in the bathroom to keep! There is no coffee service in the room but there is coffee and tea available in the lobby 24/7, as well as a water refill station. There is no a/c unit in the room but there is a charming ceiling fan. There is also a portable fan and portable heater stowed in the closet in case of uncomfortable temperature. The bed! The bed is extremely comfortable and I had a good night’s sleep. The bath towels are nice and thick. The bath amenities are subtly scented which I like. The staff all around is one of the friendliest in the industry, from check-in to check-out. The friendly bartender Rory accommodated my late arrival for a nightcap. The location can’t be neat, central to everything.

I love the Chancellor Hotel. Little touches, like real glasses, instead of plastic; two for one drink at their bar with a very friendly bartender; coffee and tea downstairs in the morning; delicious cookies, apples and water in the afternoon. Very friendly and helpful staff. The location is perfect - half a block from Union Square with transportation anywhere within walking distance.

Very very clean! Staff very helpful. Close to public transportation, easy check in. Would stay here again with no hesitation! Would love it even more if it had a continental breakfast and/or vending machine BUT I knew it did not offer that before I booked it, so we made a Walgreen’s visit for breakfast bars. Excellent experience. Bed and pillows very comfortable.

This is an older hotel though the beds were fluffy and comfortable. The room was immaculate. Very nice bathroom big closet a desk for work plenty of outlets. Staff was very nice coffee in lobby in morning. All in all great stay would stay here again Very quiet

I had a great stay at Chancellor Hotel. The room was comfortable and although furniture is a bit dated, I enjoyed the "vintage" atmosphere. Bed was comfortable (mattress on the soft side), room was clean and I could not hear the street noises much. The staff was very nice. Location is great - I was in SF for a conference and it was a 10 min walk to Moscone Center.

No AC, no way to open the window. The door lock is bad and can’t read the card. The elevators were next to my bedroom and I could eat the mechanism all night long. Cleaning staff is efficient and nice. Desk staff is not performant.

This hotel is quaint and in a great location in Union Square. It's good for a night or two if you're not planning on spending much time in the room. There is no air conditioning but there was a ceiling fan and an extra fan in the room which was sufficient during our stay as the weather was in the mid 60's. The room had a musty odor and the bed was a bit soft for our liking.

This was my second stay at the property. The location, rooms and staff have been consistently great. The only downside would have to be room noise. There were very loud guests in adjoining rooms that were yelling and partying well into 2am-3am each night. Also, guests were sitting out on the fire escape smoking and drinking right outside the bedroom windows, which was not only disruptive but unsafe. Again, the staff and facilities themselves were fantastic, but be prepared to hear everything from adjoining guests from inside your room.

The staff at the Chancellor Hotel is exceptional. Our flight got cancelled, but they held our reservation for us (even though the hotel was fully booked) and we were able to immediately go to the room as soon as we arrived the next day. They were very welcoming and it was nice to have snacks and drinks available in the very pretty lobby. The room was very nice. We had to get used to the sounds of the city again, but that was to be expected. There is a restaurant next to the hotel and the area has lots of restaurants within a short walk. We didn't have time, but there is also lots of shopping in the Union Square area. The BART train to the airport is about a 10 minute walk and the trolly stops at the hotel. Taxis and such are also easy to get. We accidentally left a phone charger in the room. So, we immediately called and spoke with the head of housekeeping. She very graciously found our charger and shipped it back to us! Very genuinely nice people - highly recommend!

This is one of my favorite places to stay in SF. The rooms are small but that’s typical in a classic hotel. I love the attention to detail here. Beds are very comfortable. Darryl took great care of us at check-in, resolved a slight issue with professionalism and grace. Definitely will keep staying here.

All staff that we encountered were very friendly and helpful. Our room was ready early so we were able to check in earlier than planned which was a great bonus. It’s a great hotel with a lot of character and the location was perfect for walking to our many adventures. We would 100% stay here again and recommend it to others!

I have stayed here a few times always been nice. Although this time we received a coupon for the bar. Says it closes at 930pm we made it to the hotel at 918pm, we went to the room to leave are stuff after Giants game. Elevator too londer we get back down at 925 and she said all she could offer was wine or beer. She was not nice about it either. If this is it then the should say it closes at 9pm .. not cool.

We had a good time! Richard the bell man is the best! The front desk ladies are so helpful. Gary is also is amazing. The fresh cookies everyday are so so good! The location of this hotel is perfect!

Hotel management cancelled my booking without any further notice and breaking Expedia policies on cancelling at midnight. They cancelled before 8pm and when we showed up they said they didn’t have any rooms left. Terrible experience.

I enjoyed every single aspect of my stay at the Chancellor Hotel and will be looking to return here for my next trip to SF. The location at Union Square could not be more perfect for commuting around the city, and every member of the staff I interacted with (including the parking attendants in the neighboring complex) was friendly, professional, and helpful. They even helped return an Apple watch I left behind at checkout.

Property was fine. Clean. Most staff were friendly and pleasant. Had 1 extremely rude and negative experience with a bartender who was working one night. Didn’t get her name, but I asked if I could get a straw and she said no and yelled at me that she was in the middle of something. Probably won’t come back there unless it’s the only option solely for that reason. Other than that though it’s a fine place.

Safe area and very tidy and clean! Water and coffee/ hydration area available to refill bottle of water plus cookies every morning! Room service was great! Close to Walgreens down the street- plus Macys and other stores 7 min walk! We walked to the pier 39 25 min walk!

The staff was absolutely friendly and helpful...Shout out to Vivian, David, Alicia, Gem and Richard!!! The hotel is located right in the center of Union Square!! Be aware the hotel is older and the walls are thin, so you will hear your neighbors talking through the walls and that's why the hotel provides earplugs...and white noise machines. If you're a hard sleeper, you won't have any issues!

Service from front desk before check in the evening of was not good. After check in, it was much better. You will first need your hotel check in parking ticket thing to access the parking lot or else the lot will VERY rudely turn you away! The offsite valet parking is a very fair price for the city/area however. Convenient location for shopping and cable cars, which go right by the front of the hotel. We enjoyed the complimentary coffee and cookies at the lobby. Lots of hotels in the area, but it didn’t feel safe walking around the area in the evening looking for a restaurant for a late dinner. I am from a much bigger city and didn’t expect to feel so unnerved walking there at night. I would not want to do so alone, especially as a woman.

The hotel is a good deal and the area is sketchy. Lots of homeless and drug addicted people are in the streets. We saw throw up, feces, and open peeing. Terribly sad - so, we moved to a safer neighborhood.

The staff at the Chancellor Hotel is exceptional. Our flight got cancelled, but they held our reservation for us (even though the hotel was fully booked) and we were able to immediately go to the room as soon as we arrived the next day. They were very welcoming and it was nice to have snacks and drinks available in the very pretty lobby. The room was very nice. We had to get used to the sounds of the city again, but that was to be expected. There is a restaurant next to the hotel and the area has lots of restaurants within a short walk. We didn't have time, but there is also lots of shopping in the Union Square area. The BART train to the airport is about a 10 minute walk and the trolly stops at the hotel. Taxis and such are also easy to get. We accidentally left a phone charger in the room. So, we immediately called and spoke with the head of housekeeping. She very graciously found our charger and shipped it back to us! Very genuinely nice people - highly recommend!

Really had a pleasant stay. Excellent value in the city. Great location. Loved having a deep and long bathtub. Vintage. Staff is courteous. Bar about the size of a postage stamp, kept patrons local and visiting all entertained and happy. Look forward to staying again.
