Great stay at the Kimpton Alton! Staff were very helpful with anything we needed and it was convenient having a top restaurant in the lobby. Valet parking was very expensive so we ended up parking in one of the garages down the street for 1/3 of the price.

Parking is valet, very easy but expensive. Staff were fantastic, room was quiet and comfortable. Beds and pillows could use an update. Water pressure was good, house keeping was good. VIP provided a bottle of wine which was received next day in room. 2 bottle of water per day per room, had to ask for them at front desk. Beer/wine service daily 5-6pm was great. Close to fishermen’s what and all tourist attractions. No concerns when walking at night.

I picked this place over others and paid more because it looked nice and I love Kimpton usually and I was supposed to get some sort of membership perks from hotels.com. Got no perk and maybe I just got a bad room but was very meh. Basically an English basement room. Just really underwhelmed. Gym is very small. Everything very meh but the restaurant.

It was a fun place to stay , I loved it so much that I am having hard time to point out that the bathtub was not really clean and I saw some hair there around the tub but no stains . I cleaned the bathtub myself before showering , but besides that it was a very fun place to stay .

Very bad experience overall. The pillows were terrible and caused shoulder pain, and the rooms smelled strongly of weed. The place is extremely overpriced, and when we mentioned these issues to the front desk, they showed no concern at all — they did not even look at us and just stared at the monitor. Definitely not recommending this place.

Hotel was very clean and in a great location. Within walking distance to Fisherman's wharf/Ghirardelli square, half a block from the F Streetcar, and very close to bus stops to go anywhere in the city. Free coffee in the morning and free glass of wine in the afternoon. Highly recommended if interested in seeing Fisherman's wharf area.

Noticeable scuff marks on the walls which could’ve easily been cleaned with a magic eraser. bath tub had strands of hair left behind from previous guests. I can tell it was cleaned just not thoroughly. and the walls are paper thin. I could hear the neighboring room’s tv and and guest conversations clearly. Notified staff of the bath tub issue and they sent someone up immediately to take care of issue of hair in the bath tub

I stay in hotels weekly and never leave reviews. The room was terribly dirty and the sheets and towels smelled of sweat. Sheets had hairs and makeup on them. They swapped my room after the first night and it was slightly better but I couldn’t leave fast enough. I’ve stayed here many times before and had a much better experience in the past. Unfortunately not anymore.

Awful! Thought I was getting a better experience by paying a little more to stay here over the neighboring Hyatt and boy was I wrong! Smells musty, rude staff, wall paper peeling off the walls, toilet not functioning, bathtub seemed ancient and unclean. Didn’t have my room type available. Staff was entirely unhelpful and seemed very stressed. The valet guy was nice but other than that it was just a money pit for no reason that needs renovation.

Lovely hotel with friendly staff. The area feels safe, especially compared to other parts of San Francisco. However, it can get quite noisy at night—particularly if you’re staying in a city-view room. These rooms are more expensive and face the back of the hotel, overlooking the Hyatt. If you’re a light sleeper, be warned: the 4 a.m. garbage collections are loud enough to wake you up daily. Bring earplugs or choose a room away from the street if you value your sleep

This was an amazing find! It’s our first time staying at Kimpton Alton, and our stay was nothing short of spectacular! The staff were warm and very accommodating. The design of and amenities in the room are so cool, too! It was a relaxing and restful stay. Not once did we deal with any hallway or next-door neighbor noise, which is very rare these days! What we loved the most are the consistent air conditioning and the shower water pressure—also something rare these days! We will definitely book here again next time!

Loved the staff and location. Every staff member friendly and helpful. Only major criticism: our room was below street level with passersby walking by our transom type window, which had very transparent shades. It felt weird and unnecessary. Otherwise, a really nice stay.

The most comfortable beds and bedding ever- so impressed. Location great for exploring Fisherman’s Wharf area. Nice touches, free coffee in the morning until 10am, borrow a plant to keep you happy, record player in room- with record library, between 5-6 pm free wine/ beer in the lobby lounge which turned into a nice social gathering to meet other guest. Most amazing Thai restaurant 5 mins walk away New Thai Elephant. Not so good:- Corridors looking rather tired and marked. Breakfast is actually an $50 credit - 2eggs and 1 slice of toast was$14 before taxes / sausage, bacon and 1 slice of toast $21 not enough left for a drink after taxes. Our room was the longest walk away with only central lift.

Loved that it was close to everything. Most stuff was a 10-minute walk or less. Staff was great! The hotel was clean. The rooms are on the smaller side, which was fine other than getting up from the bed because there was not much walkway between the bed and the wall. The air conditioner was really loud when running.

Fantastic stay at the Kimpton Alton. The room was clean, spacious and stylized well. We personally loved having the record player (we are vinyl enthusiasts), and it was a really neat option to rent them from the front desk. The location is walkable to everything near Fisherman's Wharf (like Ghirardelli Square). Staff were super friendly, made sure we had everything. Definitely would recommend staying here and would happily come back!

A disastrous experience. Truly one of the worst hotel experiences I've had in many years. There were issues in the restaurant with being served the wrong items, total lack of knowledge / training on the part of the staff and then when I thought that I may have left a valuable in the room after checking out, it took over a week to get in touch with anyone despite constant calls, voicemails and emails. Phone system is dysfunctional and there's a complete and total lack of leadership and organization at this property. Do yourself a favor and stay anywhere else.

I am not happy with the front desk as how the lady communicate with to me without respect. I couldn’t think for the 5 star hotel has bad customer service. I have been traveling places and staying at different hotels I haven’t seen any hotel staff telling their guess “ You are asking too much” regardless how much I asked I am a hotel guess and I expected to receive the request in a nice way not by yelling because I am only 18 years old and they treated me differently.

Front desk was very slow and felt understaffed. Waited for 15 minutes for someone to finish a phone conversation before I was called to the desk so that I could retrieve my luggage from the storage room. There was a line of people behind me also waiting. More staff should have been available to avoid this since it was prime check in/out time.

When I wait in lobby waiting for my room. I observe and listen. One front desk staff (Mary) is rude towards every guest. Very defensive. She talks about guests to other front desk staff making a big deal about small things they asked for like change or if room was ready. When there is an issue, she always acts ike she is right and is belligerent towards guests. Snaps at guests and tells them "I already told you". I tell other front desk staff they are nicer than her when she is rude towards me, Mary tells me I don't feel well this morning. That is not an excuse. The next day, she is still rude again. I have stayed at hotel once every 3 months when I host my family and friends at a restaurant reunion and when I see her at front desk, I hear the same rude treatment. She doesn't change. Always the same poor customer service rude attitude. I'm not one to complain but now I avoid going to her and wait until another staff is available. This time during my recent stay she is too much and I am writing a review about her.

Long, solo weekend prior to a conference in town. The Alton was perfect! Great location to walk to many things, very clean and comfortable and safe location. San Fran gets a bad rap, other than driving through some rough streets to get to the hotel from the airport, I walked all over and it was not at all like the few streets we drove by. Much cleaner (typical level of cleanliness for a city of this size and some neighborhoods were excellent) than your led to believe from the news and extremely safe. I was out walking around from 9am to 7pm most nights and only took a car at night because it was cold. The Alton was a great location and the restaurant there is incredible. Would stay there again.

Property is in a great location, 8 min walk from pier 39. It’s pretty quiet and the restaurant inside is pretty good. My only turnoff was the three taxes you have to pay which I get local taxes, and maybe resort fees. There’s another tax fee that doesn’t specify what it’s for. To top it off they take it from the deposit(which takes more than three days to get back).

Amazing stay at the Kimpton Alton! The hotel is modern, very clean, and the rooms are super comfortable. I especially loved the vinyl player in the room — such a nice touch. The restaurant downstairs, Abacá, was so good we ate there twice. We also enjoyed the complimentary drinks at the lobby from 5 to 6 pm, and the vibe was always great, with a DJ playing vinyls and creating a fun, relaxed atmosphere. The location is perfect, close to Ghirardelli Square and other attractions at Fisherman’s Wharf. Overall, a fantastic experience. I would definitely stay here again!

they didn’t have any conference rooms to take a business call. they were rude and short at the front desk. when i asked for a room change because we were in a dungeon, i was offered an upgrade for an additional cost.. they do not do room service. just not worth the price!

Good location – close to tourist areas, and Trader Joe’s is nearby. The room was spacious, including both the bedroom and the bathroom. The staff were kind and friendly. They also offer free morning coffee and afternoon wine. If you book with breakfast included (for two people), they give you a $50 voucher per night. A 20% tip, 5% San Francisco health surcharge, and 8.65% sales tax are automatically added to the bill.

Excellent hotel! Staff were nice and helpful! The happy hour was excellent. The complimentary coffee and tea was nice each morning. Parking was easy, and the record player in the room was the best! I would highly recommend this hotel!

Outdated rooms in need of a makeover Gym is a cupboard would avoid "Complimentary" water must be requested at reception (but only if it's part of your package) The breakfast is part of a restaurant, and the $50 daily voucher provided covers barely 50% of the cost
