Staypineapple, An Elegant Hotel, Union Square

Always enjoy the StayPineapple experience. This was a great location, just a few minutes walk to Union Square. The cruiser bikes were a fun way to explore the city.

My stay here was fine, but a little disappointing. Hotels.com shows that breakfast is served daily at the property, but this is absolutely false. It looks like the hotel used to have an active restaurant, but it doesn't anymore. There is coffee available. I stayed here so I could get breakfast included, so this was very disappointing and misleading. The daily amenity fee also seemed steep because the amenities were a bottle fill station, coffee, afternoon cookies, and wifi. Halfway through my trip the wifi died. The area is not great, you're almost in the tenderloin so watch where you walk. No one bothered me and I was able to find nice food nearby. The hotel was clean and the staff were friendly. If you can get a good price then you might enjoy your stay here. I would not stay here again.

Staff were very friendly and helpful. Beds were comfortable. Rooms are extremely small . We did not get the room we had reserved due to HVAC issues . Was given a discount off our room. Elevator was broken which was difficult to carry our suitcases down from the fourth floor

Overall nice hotel, great location, would likely stay there again. Minor negative, no on site restaurant or bar, they did offer a complimentary glass of wine to be fair, but no where to hang out after dinner for a night cap. again, not a big deal, plenty of spots near by, more of an FYI rooms were typically small but clean and comfy staff was friendly

My husband and I did a 1 night stay in San Francisco. I was a little hesitant when I saw the name of the hotel. But the hotel was great, amazing staff beds were comfortable. Would stay here again. The only thing that was a negative is that the hotel has not GYM. Otherwise great stay.

Since our pervious stay at this site quite a few years ago, it was sad to see the location has declined, riddled with unhoused people, and filthy sidewalks. Inside the hotel, the cute little bistro has been shut down, the elevator was broken with our room on the 6th floor and very disturbing loud foul fights and yelling coming from the streets severally times during the night. The room was still cute and clean and staff friendly. While hotel waived the amenities fee for the inconveniences of the broken elevator it was challenging for 2 people in our party to have to climb the stairs. With all of the prestay welcome emails that were sent prior to our stay, there should have been one letting us know about the elevator since we were told it had been broken for 3 weeks. A little sad and disappointing compared to our last stay.

We were in town for a quick mid-week get away and to see a show. Staypineapple is a fun and quirky hotel near Union Square. Staff was exceptionally friendly and helpful. Rooms are smallish but is you have stayed in SF, you know that this is pretty standard. Cookies were served in the afternoon, and it was a fun perk (and delicious.) No parking but garage next door was easy to use and at an expected rate. LOVED the individual duvet bedding or as the hotel calls Naked bedding. Our room was right by the elevator and it was not noisy. We were happy with our stay and would definitely stay again.

We stayed at Staypineapple for four nights. Check-in was at 4pm which is later than most hotels. We arrived a tad early at 3.30pm, to be told our room wasn't ready - fair enough. We said we would be back at 4pm - it was closer to 5pm when we returned, and our room still wasn't ready. It was finally 6pm when we were able to check in. Meanwhile, I counted at least six other parties checking in while we waited - including two who checked in just after us at 3.30pm. We were offered a complimentary drink - red wine in a can! I would rather check-in to my room on time. It was also disappointing that the bar / cafe was completely closed (shut down). It's a shame that the check-in experience was so bad. Everything else was great - room was perfectly clean and beautifully presented and the staff were helpful and friendly (no point blaming the person who checked us in for the room not being ready, but management should sort the staffing levels of their housekeeping team).

There is no valet, but there is a garage next door. There is also no gym onsite at this location. The rooms are very nice and beds are comfortable, and the staff is incredibly nice and super helpful! Overall a wonderful stay!

The property itself is 10/10; it's clean, and the staff is very friendly. However, the surrounding areas have homeless people walking around, making it feel unsafe at night.

Good location. Friendly staff Limited bar or food. Whole hotel smelt like mild/musty. Stairwells unclean. Rooms small amenity or resort fee a reall simple rip off.

We were at this property about six months ago and really enjoyed it, so just booked it again. It's changed, and not for the good. The bar/coffee bar/snack bar in the lobby has been closed. It used to have breakfast and it was fun and relaxing to sit in the lobby and start the day. Now you have to buy vending machine type products through the front desk. The windows in our room were so dirty you could barely see out. I doubt that we will go back until they get the property brought back up to speed.

A beautifully renovated, elegant hotel, in the heart of San Francisco, conveniently located near Union Square where the hop-on-hop-off bus comes regularly. Several excellent restaurants in easy walking distance. Spotlessly clean with excellent staff to help wih every need. Highly recommend .

It was a really nice hotel! Super clean, smelled good! the bed was super comfy, and the curtains were blackout! the bathroom was also really nice, amazing lighting! Over all 10/10 hotel!

This is a dog friendly Hotel. Meaning dogs sleep on the beds. As soon as we opened our room, there was a strong poop smell. Room was clean however we couldn’t deal with the smell. We requested a new room and were told to wait on the floor for someone to come by with the new hotel card… we waited and waited and no one showed up. Ended up staying in the original room because it was late. Unpleasant smell. Makes you want to gag.

I felt that this hotel is ideal for guests traveling with dogs, but not so great for those without pets. * The room had a strong animal odor. * I was woken up several times during the night by dogs barking in nearby rooms and the sound of dogs walking around in the room above. * The internet was so slow that it was unusable. Although the room was cleaned properly, the persistent smell made the stay quite unpleasant.

I love this place but this time our room was not cleaned thoroughly. Damp rug. Hairs on bed. Conditioner dispenser empty. And the area is right in the edge of the Tenderloin of course so, not great. But the staff, service and facilities are outstanding!

This hotel is a hidden gem! It was absolutely beautiful, clean, and perfect! I loved the details with all the pineapple decor! The rooms are small, but if all you need is a clean, beautiful, place to stay, then this is perfect. I would definitely stay here again.

On its face, we really liked this hotel. However, we had to switch rooms due to excessive noise off of Geary Street and air conditioning that did not work. We were quite satisfied with the room they moved us to. The most annoying part of the bedding were the clunky European duvets – not one, but two, one for each occupant of the bed. I understand the green measures taken by the hotel and appreciate the effort, but one duvet would've been better.

Front desk staff was very helpful. Very helpful. Nice lobby area where people sat to drink the complimentary drinks. Room was excellent. I’m researching where they source their bedclothes. Loved ‘em. Only down side was loud music next door but that quieted down after 9pm. Definitely recommend.

Comfy bed, comfy room. Not great soundproofing and area isn’t the nicest. They put pineapple in the water which I didn’t enjoy.

Elevator wasn’t working, lights in the bathroom wouldn’t turn on and the A/C wasn’t working. I complained and got no where, I stayed here before and it was good but climbing 6 flights of stairs with luggage was an extreme nightmare and once we got back to the room we stayed in because the stairs were torture. TORTURE oh and the club next door, booming bass and loud music, good luck sleeping.

The room was lovely and a bit quirky with the pineapple theme. Had a really good shower .It was small though that's typical for a city centre room. We had some issues with the WiFi (worked fine on an iPhone but was really poor connecting to an Android phone) and with the TV which weren't resolved during our 3 night stay. The lobby area is really nice. I've rated this based on the hotel itself, but just a warning that there are a lot of homeless people in this area and that the Fisherman's wharf area feels safer.

Very friendly staff. The bedding was absolutely amazing! Felt like sleeping in a cloud - or at least what I would imagine sleeping in a cloud would be like. The beverages upon check in was a very nice feature! Would definitely stay there again.

The staff was delightful. Everyone was helpful and cheerful. The property was comfortable and clean. The rooms were small but elegant. The internet was a problem. I could not get online in my room; I had to use the lobby. They were having issues with parts of the hotel system. I changed rooms, but I still could not connect. They were very apologetic but could not fix it. Perhaps that was a temporary problem.

Our stay was overall fine. The day before check in we received an email from the hotel letting us know that the elevator was down with no ETA and they gave as the option to cancel the booking without penalties. We decided to stay there and we did not regret it. Upon early check in they waived the resort fee and accommodated us in a lower floor. Check in was smooth and front desk agent was very nice. Rooms are small but comfortable. Area is a little rough but we did not have any issues and did not feel unsafe at any time. We would definitely stay there again.

The room and hotel were fine. The price was reasonable. Staff was quite friendly. The issue we had was that the maid came into our room when we were out when we had the "do not disturb" sign up. We have nothing to hide and do not travel with valuables, but we do not need and do not want anyone in our room. It was disappointing to return after a few hours out to discover our wishes in this area were not followed although clearly communicated.

I had a business party with 7 rooms. On check-in, 3 of the party were told their rooms had been downgraded by Hotels.com, but the room charges would remain the same as the more expensive room. Additionally they were told that to get to rooms that were reserved, there would have to pay an additional $10 per night. The members of my party had to push hard to get the hotel staff to do the right thing, but let's call this what it was, an illegal bait and switch! Upon my check-in after 20:00 on a Friday, I was forced to wait for housekeeping to perform a quality check before I was issued a room key, begging the question why a QA check is being performed after 20:00 in the evening! All the rooms had winter bedding, leading my entire team to wake up nightly in a pool of sweat. One of my team had a nonfunctional safe in the room, reported it, and 3 days later nobody had been sent to fix it. The cafe downstairs was perpetually closed, so you could never get a decent coffee (the coffee in the rooms is unacceptable unless you are used to drinking nearly flavour less brown water. Directly next door is a restaurant bar that plays music so loud that the walls and windows of the hotel vibrate, making it impossible for some team members with jet lag to rest prior to the RSAC at Moscone Center. My advice is to look elsewhere. This was the 2nd year I booked rooms at this hotel for my group business travel and I cannot in good conscience subject my team to this property again.

Amazing staff!!

I don’t know where to start so I’ll start with the most impressive part: Thomas at the front desk! We booked one night following a 15 night cruise and check in was standard 4pm. We originally were not expecting to be off the ship until noonish but plans changed and at 7:30am I called to see if early check in would be a possibility (not expecting it to be.) He said come on, he’ll put us on a list but we could at least check our luggage to go explore. We arrived at 8:50 & Thomas greeted us with a smile & room keys! The property is everything the photos show and then some. You get complementary drinks (alcohol or coffee/tea/sodas and a refillable water bottle in your room. The rooms are small (expected!) but everything we needed even having 4 suitcases from said long cruise. The shower was gorgeous marble and incredible water pressure. The towels and bedding were so soft and heavenly. I’m now obsessed with a European Duvet & you will be too! As a hospitality industry worker I appreciate every little detail when it comes to making a guest feel welcome or at home in any situation and Stay Pineapple WILL ALWAYS GET MY BUSINESS! A+++ 10/10 stars AND it is affordable!

Had a great time. The only issue is the neighborhood is a little rough. Parking was about a 5 min walk to a secure parking garage.

OVERALL: Great stay, I'll stay there again. PROS: Pineapple theme gives hotel a fun, distinct personality. Room was small but well appointed, comfortable, and modern. Appreciate the coffee-making supplies (and the half-and-halfs waiting in the fridge). Gorgeous main lobby. Friendly, helpful staff. Lots of restaurants within a few blocks. Easy walk to Union Square, comfortable 20-minute walk to Moscone Convention Center. CONS: The neighborhood around the hotel (about halfway between Union Square and Tenderloin) has become somewhat run-down, and while not generally unsafe, it does have many homeless living on the streets, which did make me uncomfortable. That's not the hotel's fault, just a sad fact of the city these days.

Nice stay, friendly staff and conveniently located with nearby Asian restaurants around. Keep in mind it is 5-10 minutes near the Tenderloin a rough neighborhood with homeless people but there are a lot of good restaurants around there. The parking is right next to the hotel for $50 overnight valet so not bad. The price is fair compare to many other hotels. I'd stay here again.

I like the bedding and the reusable water bottle arrangement. Inside the hotel, it is clean and feels safe. The neighborhood is still full of marijuana smell after 9pm, bunch of zombi walking around.

The hotel is nice, but the surroundings and the city itself is in a decadent state, with lot of homeless and drug addicts littering and sleeping on the streets. You never feel a 100% safe. But once again the hotel is great, beds were comfy, and staff was nice. Good position to explore the city, really central.

I was disappointed you could no longer get a latte there. And the shower floor was super dangerous, way too slippery.

Staypineapple was a great boutique hotel. The staff was very nice. The property was clean and decorated with pineapple colors. Take advantage of the breakfast option available - more reasonable than anything in the area. I did see prior reviews regarding homeless in the area but we did not experience that around the hotel or in most of San Francisco. We will be staying here again!

I loved being received with a glass of wine and the security of having locked entry. Beautiful lobby and rooms are comfortable. Unfortunately, the bistro downstairs "Is now closed" so there are no dining options. We took the BART from SFO, and after dark the area is like any metropolis (LA/NYC) with homeless and sirens at all hours of the night. Nothing we aren't used to, but not recommended for families with young children unless you are taking an Uber everywhere. There are a few night coffee/breakfast shops in the immediate neighborhood. Overall, great hotel in a cool location.
