I’m not going to leave some horror story that was just a bad experience. I’m going to explain why this is just a bad hotel and you shouldn’t stay here, in the context that if you want a hotel where the room is just fine and don’t need anything else, you can stay somewhere much cheaper. Ocean view is what any other hotel would call a partial ocean view. Be aware of this, because the hotel will defend this misrepresentation. The pool is weak for a Maui resort. It’s just a small, rectangular pool. The overall vibe is more of a strict rules environment rather than relaxing and laid back. I was sitting outside and they were threatening a guest with a $500 fine for smoking outdoors. Every hotel is smoke-free, but these guys are SERIOUS. Even as a non-smoker, it feels weird being threatened with a fine if you so much as vape on the property or in your room. Towels at the pool are serious business too. You get a towel card that awards you one towel. You return the towel, you get the card back. Although when we went to the pool, there was a one-hour wait on towels, so what are we getting banged with resort fees for? Housekeeping doesn’t come every day. Everything is or feels like an upcharge. The room was just fine, but again, if you’re going to a resort and don’t need anything besides a basic, satisfactory room, stay somewhere cheaper.

First time staying at this hotel, and so glad we did! The hotel is an old classic, but clean and welcoming. The employees are so helpful and friendly- helped us with directions and suggestions for our stay.. Breakfast buffets daily with sunrise views and poolside bars were so fun! Private beach access was nice, and the food at the restaurant was so good. The trolly takes you to other hotels and Whaler’s Village. Nice running paths too! Good experience!

The property is very nice and the beach is beautiful. Close to shopping and restaurants. Staff very friendly and helpful. The only reason I gave 4 stars is because you have to pay to rent beach chairs and umbrella. It was $25 for each - that’s $75 each day I spent on the beach and I was there for 5 days. I spent $375 in just beach rental. We found out too late that you can rent chairs and umbrellas from nearby Bob’s for less than $75 for the entire week. Also and this is big… Expedia describes the King room as sleeping 4 so I booked that with the intent that my 10 year old grandson could stay in our room if he wanted here and there. The room has no sleeper sofa so Expedia’s description is false and misleading. I might consider staying again but will not book through Expedia.

Carpet in hallway and room is old and stained. The breakfast buffet was not good. Would be nice if they offered freshly cooked eggs. Pools are very small, lack of communication during tsunami warning. Charge for everything $80+ per day for beach umbrella and 2chairs is absurd. Resort fee has very little offering, just another way to get extra money out of us.

Ridiculous experience — Zero stars if I could $650 a night for what? They wouldn’t even bring bowls and spoons to our one-bedroom suite. We asked — they refused. No complimentary waters in the room, even though there’s a coffee maker. Makes no sense. Housekeeping only every other day? At this price point? Wild. The pool attendant literally refused to take our towels — said he “doesn’t touch other people’s towels.” But they’re obsessed with tracking towel cards. Make it make sense. We booked a cabana from 7:30 AM to 4:30 PM — but apparently “service doesn’t start until 11 AM”? Then why charge me from 7:30? And to top it off, they didn’t even automatically apply our $75 food credit. I had to catch it, call them, sit on hold for 10 minutes just to get what was already promised. Completely disappointing stay. Won’t be back.

This is my 3rd time staying here - the last time was 21 yrs. ago. It has since been remodeled. The property looks nice, and the staff are very friendly and helpful. Love the ice cream shop. I do feel some of the rentals were too costly in light of the resort fees/taxes you have to pay. The room wasn't the cleanest, especially the shower area, and water leaked onto the tile. The lighting in the bathroom/grooming area isn't great. Housekeeping is hit or miss. The fitness rooms have no clocks, towels, or cups for the water dispensers. It would have been nice to know I needed to take a towel and bottle. This is the first hotel I've stayed at that didn't have towels or cups. There were disinfectant wipes for the equipment, but that doesn't help when sweating. Overall, I was pleased, but be prepared to have a hefty bill when you check out from all of the fees in addition to any food, beverages, and rentals. That doesn't include parking which is a separate fee (I didn't have).

I’m not one to write reviews often, but my wife and I just finished up a 7 night Babymoon here and we’d come back in a heartbeat! The Bungalows are really what set this resort apart from the other resorts in the area. We stayed in an Oceanfront Junior Suite and it was amazing! The suites are upstairs in the bungalows while the regular rooms are on the first level. Since we were upstairs we had unobstructed ocean views and could listen to the waves crash with the windows open. The property was super quiet and relaxing and all the guests seemed respectful. The staff were friendly. The room was immaculate. The bed was very comfortable. The AC blew ice cold air even during 93 degree days. The room had a large mini fridge and probably the coldest freezer I’ve ever encountered. There was live music every night (solo vocals/guitar) and a full band on Friday or Saturday in the garden area. There were 2 pools and they got busy, but nowhere near as busy as the big resort pools from neighboring properties. This spot just felt a lot more relaxed than neighboring resorts, which we loved. The beach itself is also one of the best in the area. You have endless food & drink options within a 5-10 minute drive. We didn’t use the spa or eat at the restaurant at the property so we can’t comment on that, but it all looked great. The only downsides were there was no jacuzzi on the property, and no microwave in the rooms unless you get the full size suite. Overall we’d give it a 9.8/10 rating!

No heated pool bad old paint smell on hallway. Had to hit the coffee maker and light to make it work . Restroom got clogged. No answer at reception when try to report it .35 dollars to park at property no room cleaning but 1 time when we stay 5 days.

We love Royal Lahaina! Only downside to this trip, the Maine pool was closed due to being redone. We didn’t really care though, because they have the best beach ever!!!!

You guys say that you provide cleaning services “every other day” but throughout our 5 day stay, we only got our room cleaned 1 time. Our requests went unanswered. AC unit wasn’t working. Day 2 of our stay, our card got charged an additional $500 after they put $375 on hold Not happy with our stay. Wouldn’t recommend or stay here again.

Our room wasn’t ready til check in time. When we first entered our room, the room seems not ready, room is dusty, bedding's with noticeable stain. The supervisor came with his staff and clean the entire room. Reception desk not friendly and not informative. The wifi is not good, it keeps logging for ye entire stay. The restaurant is ok but i think it’s pricey. The vallet staff are really excellent.

Aloha! We enjoyed our anniversary vacation in Maui at the Royal Lahaina Bungalow's and Resort. There were a few concerns: There were no wash cloths when we arrived, the floors were dirty, the shower had spiders and was leaking because the glass divider was not sealed. The advertisement stated all bungalows had a kitchen and the front desk stated this also but our bungalow did not have a kitchen or a microwave so we could not heat our food. Although there were warning signs at the beach to swim at your own risk due to no life guard on duty that listed all the possible hazards, the beach sand was badly eroded! The resort could do a better job replenishing the sand for a consistent shore line that doesn’t have deep drops in what you would believe is shallow water! Over all the resort was beautiful and we enjoyed our vacation! Mahalo!

Please . Our room was fully with termites. We changed two times the room.the termites were on the sheets, full on beds. Was so disgusting and disappointed. Was our first time there. We changed the room for the third time and was upgraded and they charged us extra, omg. I will need to talk with someone about that and get my money back. No going back to that hotel, sorry

There was live music every night (solo vocals/guitar) and a full band on Friday or Saturday in the garden area. I’m not one to write reviews often, but my wife and I just finished up a 7 night Babymoon here and we’d come back in a heartbeat! The Bungalows are really what set this resort apart from the other resorts in the area. We stayed in an Oceanfront Junior Suite and it was amazing! The suites are upstairs in the bungalows while the regular rooms are on the first level. Since we were upstairs we had unobstructed ocean views and could listen to the waves crash with the windows open. The property was super quiet and relaxing and all the guests seemed respectful. The staff were friendly. The room was immaculate. The bed was very comfortable. The AC blew ice cold air even during 93 degree days. The room had a large mini fridge and probably the coldest freezer I’ve ever encountered. The location was great if you have a car- close to many things. The resort was a little smaller than I would have anticipated and did not have a hot tub. The beach is beautiful here, the pool was a little cold in March, hence a hot tub would have been nice. I loved the free hula class offered. The rooms are a little outdated though roomy and I like the sink in the common area especially when traveling with family.

I booked an ‘Ocean View’ room at Royal Lahaina Resort in Maui. As you can see in the attached image, the room I received has a significantly obstructed view due to rooftops. This does not match the balcony view photos or description on Expedia. When I returned to the front office and mentioned that the room did not match what I had booked on Expedia, they stated that this is what I get, which contradicted the Expedia images. Then they told me my only option was for a full Ocean View, I had to upgrade my room to Ocean Front View, where I had to pay $130 extra per night for the upcoming two nights. The first night, I was stuck in this room, and the next two nights, I had to pay extra for the upgrade.

Property is OK for what you pay for. We stayed in a bungalow my daughters and I we had a tsunami scare and the whole staff decided to bounce and save their families to stay behind. Some asked us to go to higher grounds. Some asked us to stay nobody knew what they were doing, unprepared for an emergency we ended up going to higher grounds a few blocks up on top of a golf course hill waited there for three hours called the resort saying is it safe to come back what should we do and they couldn’t get a no answer. Finally, a family drove me back down since it was 9 o’clock at night dark And they put us in a one bedroom king size bed for the night on the ninth floor to be safe they did say it was a dirty room since I didn’t have time to clean, but at that point, it doesn’t matter as long as our safety again resort is a nice resort decent quiet but not prepared for any emergency Discouraging

Upon arriving the desk clerk was a little short .I thought it was we were chevking in late. We were asked to pay 40.00 a night for parking self park or 45.00 a day valet parking.wow so for our stay of 13 days it was 480.00 The staff at the restaurant was short we had ants on our table and asked to sit elsewhere. When we were moved the staff was rude. Another couple sat at the same table only to be moved due to ants.the cleaning staff were great and the rooms were kept.While checking out The person on the desk was short.We asked to take care of our tab so we could just leave and not have to check out in the am with the crowd she acknowledged but went on to do other things we askef again and it seemed like we were bothering her .i think a class in customer service would be a good idea. Ridiculous experience — Zero stars if I could $650 a night for what? They wouldn’t even bring bowls and spoons to our one-bedroom suite. We asked — they refused. No complimentary waters in the room, even though there’s a coffee maker. Makes no sense. Housekeeping only every other day? At this price point? Wild. The pool attendant literally refused to take our towels — said he “doesn’t touch other people’s towels.” But they’re obsessed with tracking towel cards. Make it make sense. We booked a cabana from 7:30 AM to 4:30 PM — but apparently “service doesn’t start until 11 AM”? Then why charge me from 7:30? And to top it off, they didn’t even automatically apply our $75 food credit. I had to catch it, call them, sit on hold for 10 minutes just to get what was already promised. Completely disappointing stay. Won’t be back.

My husband and I got married at the Royal Lahaina 25 years ago, so what better place to celebrate our silver anniversary than at Maui's RL. First and foremost, we love the location, it is right in the heart of Kaanapali Beach, one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. The building is well maintained, as are the pool areas. We loved the new on-site activities, such as the music under a beautiful giant tree, "The Branches", where we got to enjoy music with the touch of Hawaii. We also visited the bar, where we enjoyed well-prepared drinks and some delicious snacks. The only thing I noticed this time versus past visits to RL was that most of the staff members were not as friendly as what we are accustomed to. I think a smile goes a long way, especially if you are providing services to tourists. Overall, we had a great celebration.

Royal Lahaina is our place to go even though we now it needs some up grades. But this last trip experience was different from last time even it was only 6 weeks apart. It got more expensive and they didn’t clean the room for the entire week. The costumer service at the breakfast was really bad. We will think twice before we come back to the hotel in our next travel to Maui. Feeling very sorry because it is located in a beautiful and peaceful beach.

Worst checkin experience I have ever had. No help with bags upon arrival when we pulled up. We had to ask for a bellman. They held our bags until our room was ready and then brought them up and threw them on the ground next to the dresser. Didn’t ask where we wanted them or if we needed them to be placed anywhere. Just tossed them on the ground which resulted in my partners luggage to rip making a large hole. We had to purchase new luggage at the end of our trip. The front desk was incredibly rude. No one welcomed us to Hawaii. They demanded to see my card as I approached the desk and said they tried to run it twice 24 hours before but I was told we would pay at the property. The wrong card was on file as we had booked through Expedia. I was unaware and that resulted in a large hold on my credit card resulting in being flagged for fraud. The hotel was of no help and treated us like peasants when I tried to find a solution as it was a Friday and the bank placed a hold until Monday due to everything pending. Only one front desk agent was friendly and tried to assist best she could but by this time we were so turned off by this entire first experience we checked out after 24 hours and left the island. I will never go back to Royal Lahaina. I asked for a full refund and they have still held my deposit though we left. BEWARE. Hotel looks beautiful but not worth the money and the trouble plus they will try to overcharge you.

The employees are so helpful and friendly- helped us with directions and suggestions for our stay.. Breakfast buffets daily with sunrise views and poolside bars were so fun! Private beach access was nice, and the food at the restaurant was so good. The trolly takes you to other hotels and Whaler’s Village. Nice running paths too! Good experience!

My wife and I had a good stay at Royal Lahaina over the Christmas holidays. We enjoyed the location - walking distance from other resorts and restaurants and shops at the Whalers Village, while still somewhat secluded. We enjoyed the closeness to the beach (a one minute walk from our bungalow) and closeness to the pool. As bicyclists we enjoyed the fact that this was on the West Maui Loop. Staff was friendly, room was clean, bed was firm. The one downside was that the restaurant was slow at times. This was not luxurious, but worked well for our purposes. We'll likely come back.

For the first 3 nights, we were forced to endure staying in a lower floor room. The room was not very well-maintained (e.g., broken thermostat) and was very noisy. It also offered very little privacy considering its proximity to the pool area. They finally moved us to an upper floor room, which was significantly better in all aspects. The beach was very pretty, relaxing, clean, the plants, trees they were all very nice. I did not like the service at the restaurant. I traveled with family we all got breakfast included but opted out of eating there due to the terrible service. Server Marites never brought our coffee so we had to ask the hostess after waiting a good 20min for coffee. Marites would walk around our table assisting everyone else and purposely ignored us. We asked for two mimosas which were delivered way after we had finished our meals. and coffee refills never made it to our table. I was not impressed with the service from any of the staff around the hotel. We went to Branches because it was advertised as a place to go listen to good music, drinks and food...music was great, but there was no one working the drink car not there was a way to order food. I think the hotel is way understaffed or they just don't care to cater to their guests.
The beach was very pretty, relaxing, clean, the plants, trees they were all very nice. I did not like the service at the restaurant. I traveled with family we all got breakfast included but opted out of eating there due to the terrible service. Server Marites never brought our coffee so we had to ask the hostess after waiting a good 20min for coffee. Marites would walk around our table assisting everyone else and purposely ignored us. We asked for two mimosas which were delivered way after we had finished our meals. and coffee refills never made it to our table. I had to change rooms as i was given a room in tower on 6th floor that smelt mouldy. The next room was good. The dining options were very expensive. Breakfast buffet was okay. The location is amazing for walking to Whalers.

Overall it was a good trip and good property. The bungalows are special. The food and service at NOON AND MOON are great. However the food at the Luau was terrible. We were really looking forward to that nights dinner all week and could not have hated it more. Quality, variety, and selection for and expensive luau were cafeteria level. Thankfully the show and the drinks made us forget but would never recommend the Myths of Maui Luau.

Friendly staffing, clean resort, clean rooms, clean swimming pools, great breakfast, but the dinner menu selection is limited and expensive. The resort was perfect. The second thing I didn't like was the beach access from the resort was not clean at all. Besides that everything was good. I do recommend this resort.

The room is old, with stains on the wall from AC, staff were not friendly and even we had to carry heavy bags into car trunk and the staff were looking at us and no one even gave a hand!
