Shirley Retreat

This is my second stay at the hotel. The staff was helpful, property quiet and I felt safe. The room was also very clean and there was more than adequate parking for guests' vehicles. I recommend this hotel to anyone considering making a booking at this hotel.

I checked in on April 28th for a week, marking my first visit to this facility. The location is good, and the staff is friendly. However, the facility needs some upgrades. I was disappointed that there wasn’t even a complimentary bottle of water in the room, especially considering the hot temperatures in Jamaica; this should be taken into account. I had requested a ground-floor room prior to my arrival, but due to a lack of communication, I was not informed that the ground-floor rooms only have one bed each. Since I requested two beds, I was assigned a room on the second floor. This wouldn’t have been an issue if there had been an elevator, but the staircase was quite challenging for me. I appreciate the courteous assistance from the staff.

We came to Kingston on a quick turnaround trip on business. The property is closest to Kingston 10, Halfway Tree, Marley museum and all things Kingston. Room was quiet, clean and air conditioned. Only one channel on TV but WiFi throughout

Conveniently located to place we had to do business. Taxi service available. Would appreciate in-room safe and more sturdy dining tables.

I recently stayed at the Shirley Retreat Hotel in Jamaica and had a truly wonderful experience. Check-in and check-out were both quick and easy, which made the entire stay feel smooth from start to finish. My room was spotless, the bathroom was very clean, the sheets were crisp and fresh, and the King bed was incredibly comfortable. The staff added even more to the stay. The security guard at night, Patrick, and another gentleman who worked during the day were always present on the property and consistently kind in every interaction. Their warm and attentive presence made me feel safe and welcomed throughout my stay. Breakfast each morning was very good and filling, and overall the property is perfect for a quick trip. While it doesn’t have the typical hotel amenities like a bar or pool, it provides exactly what you need if you’re in Kingston to rest and recharge for the next day. They also clean the room daily with fresh sheets and towels. I was extremely pleased with my stay and definitely plan to return in the future. The cost to stay here was at least 60% less than the major hotels in the area like the S Hotel, AC Hotel and R Hotel. The Shirley Retreat Hotel exceeded my expectations, and I highly recommend it to anyone visiting Kingston.

While searching on Expedia, the Shirley Hotel caught my attention, offering a convenient solution to extend our stay by one day, as Spanish Court was fully booked. We booked impulsively, relying on online reviews and photographs. The hotel's location is conveniently situated off the main road, with easy access. Upon arrival, we found ample parking and received a warm welcome from the front desk staff, who assisted with luggage transport and efficient check-in. The hotel's cleanliness was consistently evident, from the lobby to our Hibiscus room. Although construction was underway next door at check-in, it had ceased by 6:00 p.m., ensuring a quiet evening. For a simple yet clean and efficient hotel, I highly recommend the Shirley Hotel. If I had to mention Cons but by all means not deal breakers: there's no elevators, or phones in the rooms, and the television only has news channels.

The rooms and the property was clean. The internet did not work from the room.

The staff are incredible even though the building is a bit old. I was unlucky and my air conditioner really didnt work. I'm okay with the heat though and took a couple of cold showers and felt as right as rain. The beds are comfortable. The place is nice, just in need of some updates.

I would strongly recommend a kettle and small sachets of coffee and tea the hotel need a security safe in the room to put in pass port & Vaubles the room could do with a bottle opener please get a part time cook the main cook looks worn out as she do not write down the orders which if you want breakfast in the morning you have to order the night before, she just memorises the orders from customers . The security is manageable, some times we have to get out or the car and open the gate if security man is busy the staff are very polite and helpful

The hotel is okay for a short stay, but I wouldn’t recommend it for an extended period. If you need a place for a night or two, it will work, but there are some significant drawbacks. Starting with the positives, the staff is very welcoming and super sweet, especially the security guards and the person who checked us in. They really made us feel at home. The rooms are clean, which is a plus, but my biggest issue is the lack of basic amenities like tea items or a kettle. I’m someone who needs to drink tea before bed, and not having a kettle or tea bags in the room was a major inconvenience. Additionally, they didn’t provide any water in the room—you have to purchase it separately, which I find unacceptable given the money spent to book the hotel. Water should be a basic amenity. Another disappointment was breakfast. I don’t think it’s fair that after booking the hotel, you still have to pay for breakfast. It should be included, and considering the prices charged, it’s not worth it. However, the lady working in the kitchen is super sweet, which was a redeeming factor. The internet was a significant issue. The connection was so poor it was like not having internet at all. The staff restarted it multiple times, but the problem persisted. To make matters worse, there was no cable on the TV, so we were limited to watching news channels only. Overall, the biggest issues were the lack of water and a kettle in the room, and the terrible internet connection. If these were improved

Clean room and central location means that you're close to everywhere

The location wasn't bad n the front desk is always occupied with a person which is good. All the staff were friendly. As for the rooms the sheets were dirty, the bathroom sink n tub was really filthy n u could c the ring around the tub n in the toilet. Maybe for a single person who is tryna chill for a few days n do not mind but not for u n ur family at all.

Very clean and location very convienant.

Rooms are a bit outdated, bathtub wasnt cleaned properly when we arrived dirt was still in the tub, we had wash it out. Construction was directly happening to right of our room so loud drilling sounds kept me away. The tv was a joke ots so small and there was so many news channels and nothing else interesting to watch ,very limited they definitely need to upgrade items in the rooms, especially the loud old doors for each room entrance that creaks so much and slams so loudly. There should be a microwave in each room to allow for guests to be comfortable and not have to go downstairs to warm their food. This place has so much potential if thevtime is taken to make a few upgrades,updates.

Room was spacious, enjoyed my stay, staff is very welcoming and friendly. Sue and Sandra were great at the front. I definitely would book again. Close walking distance from Bob Marley Museum, Devon House and good eats in the area. Will be back again.

This was proper the most disgusting “hotel” i’ve ever stayed in. the sheets were dirty. the shower was filthy and clogged with hair. disgusting. i am displeased.

Loved!!!! Our stay at the Shirley. This house is to the point. It is located nearby, Bob Marley, museum, Kaya House, and Cru bar which was delicious. The staff is the sweetest ever. It is very very clean overall. The bed was super comfortable. The sheets were comfortable clean soft pillows were great. Bathroom was clean. TV had Netflix and good AC. There was no issues. It is not a fancy place but it is perfect for a few days to be in Kingston. I will totally recommended and will definitely stay there again. Patrick one of the employees was very attentive and all very friendly. Thank you very much.!!

AC was not cooling. phone in rm not working to call front desk. Night shift girl was really friendly.

I stayed at the hotel a couple nights it was a convenient location close to the Bob Marley museum which I wanted to visit for the movie release. Great staff. Air condition in the room wasn’t very good but nice high ceilings and I felt safe overall. Lots of construction going on next door and in the area when I stayed in Feb 2024. Not fancy but gets the job done. Make sure to have cash on hand as there is no debit machine to purchase anything from the hotel itself like beer/ water and breakfast in the morning is not included. I would stay again.

My only problem was the A/C directly over the bed and blowing in my face. The breakfast was real authentic Jamaican, especially the national dish... ackee and saltfish.... loved it. And -- the young female server was very polite and friendly too! Have recommended it to my friends and family. It fits what I need when I visit Kingston... location, A/C and hot water. Will definitely stay there again

The property is situated in a very good location for business around Kingston. However, during the time of my visit, the lot beside this property was in construction of a tall building. So, during daytime, it was loud and noisy, but, ultimately, it was a pleasantly comfortable overnight stay. Staff was nice too especially the security - very nice people.

Only complaint about the property itself was the clogged toilet on checkout day, but that stuff happens. The huge issue was the attitude and behavior of the security guard, who while wearing a branded uniform shirt of the hotel, said he wasn’t part of the hotel staff. He was aggressive and dishonest, loudly accusing me of lying. There was an issue with him during check-in that I tried to ignore. It got worse on checkout morning.

The property is slightly old but is well maintained. Staff is very helpful. Even though I had to checkout they were helpful in keeping my luggage safe for a good 4 hours without any issue. They also let me check in early since I had arrived early

I did not like the fact that I have to pay an extra $52 on upon arrival I had made my payment online and when I got there I was charged extra 50 dollars

The staff was very helpful and willing to please. Whatever I needed they made sure I was satisfied. The room was clean, the grounds was well kept.

This was a place booked last miniute for business trip. They went out of there way to ensure that my son did not miss his flight as he missed it the first check out day . He went back directly from the airport after the missed flight and they accomadated him. The security was sent to do the wake up call the next day. Security on property and reliable staff. Would definitely recommend this place.

Arrived early and nicely accommodated by the Front Drsk young lady. She even loan me her laptop to do urgent business.very pleasant person. Inviting reception area. Roomz clean. Pleasant staff , comfortable

I like that front desk staff and cook were friendly and professional. I didn’t like that although there were two guests there was only one hand towel and the maid did not replace the hand towel or wash cloths after the first day.

This staff was so amazing from the hotel manager she was a beautiful representation of the company to Smith and security, who made sure that I was safe to Denise who cleaned the room and Miss Michelle, who answers the phones and show you how to order your breakfast. This was a beautiful experience and wonderful people great environment, very peaceful, calm and loving thank you for a A beautiful stay

The property is clean and the room was okay, Communication was poor in making me aware of certain things. Example Wifi password and breakfast arrangements.

The gentleman at the front desk is so nice and professional. He literally treats you like family.

Reasonable property but a big secluded off the road so you had to be careful when walking at night

From beginning to end I loved my stay at Shirley Retreat Hotel. The staff was amazing, the breakfast was amazing (I was looking forward to trying the Ackee and Salt fish as a Dominican who is familiar with bacalao) and it was yummy. I’m a city girl so walking 1/2 mile either way to the Bob Marley Museum (actually less) or Devon House was a literal breeze with butterflies fluttering around you (if you have the right energy) along the way.

The staff was helpful, hotel room was very clean, the hotel felt safe with its 24/7 security, the property was quiet and the property is in an ideal and convenient location.

Fantastic location, clean and very good service.

For my trip purposes it was just about the right place affordable quiet bed confortable within minutes to the US embassy, TGIF resturant just around the corner and Devons house park within 10min walking distance embassy within 10min taxi.

Esta muy centrico a 8 minutos de la embajada americana, a 6 minutos de la embajada de Republica Dominicana, cerca de la embajada de costa rica. Restaurantes cerca, chino,ruta de tramporte a 100 metros.muy bien para hacer diligencias múltiples.

Fabulous little hotel just a 5 min walk from the Bob Marley Museum. A safe hotel, basic but what we expected, very clean (I would have given it 6 stars if I could), easy to find, loads of parking. Staff are friendly. Very nearby in a few mins walk is a coffe shop, supermarket and a local bar and restaurant.

No lunch or dinner

Not a luxury hotel of course, but you get what you paid for; clean, confortable and safe place to sleep. Jamaican breakfasts was delish.

The staff was very understanding and patient with me because they kept my reservation in place even when I arrived the next day based on Flight cancellations. The breakfast was good wish it was included. But overall the places I wanted to go was close and nearby. I enjoyed my time in Jamaica for Carnival weekend.

The staff is nice. We enjoyed our stay everyone was so welcoming. The chef is amazing great breakfast. This was a last minute booking. No extra fees, no waiting for the room to be ready. Stable wifi. A/C blows ice cold. The high wood ceiling is an added bonus. Room darkening curtains if you want to sleep in. Hot water with pull down shower head attachment. Quiet location with 24 hr security. My fiance and I had an amazing weekend stay. 10/10 recommend. Don't hesitate book here NOW!

Nice property for a short stay in Kingston, friendly, helpful staff. Ricardo at the front desk was especially helpful and a pleasant gentleman.Ms Maeve's food was fresh and nice. It would have been nice to have 2 complimentary bottles of water which is normal when staying in a hotel or guest house these had to be purchased and there was some banging in the early hours of mornings that woke me up, but apart from that, a lovely, clean convenient place to stay.
