Gideon Putnam Resort & Spa

Quiet, beautiful, timeless and historic propery. Loved the hotel shuttle to the racetrack and downtown area. It would be great if the shuttle ran a little later to accomodste those with later dinner reservations. There is a resturant on property fir breakfast and dinner. Only a buffet breakfast was offered suggest more options for tjisr who want a lighter option. Free passes to Victoria pool wich is about a 3 minute walk. Hotel also provides towrls for the pool but you have to ask Overall recommend and enjoyed my stsy eben uf a bit pricy

Really loved that it was walkable to the Roosevelt bath for a massage. Also, they have a free shuttle that will take you into town on Broadway however, if you drive, it is literally 10 minutes away.

Elevator was broken and will not be fixed for another week or so. The hotel’s staff tried their best to minimize the impact of no elevators but it wasn’t enough for my wife who has difficulty walking.

The location and grounds were beautiful but the room was dark and smelled moldy. It was located on the upper floor, with no elevator to that level. We went to the pool, which we thought we had free access to but we would need wristbands from the front desk, which should have been given to us when we checked in.

The property is in the park and surrounded by nature. Never got to use the outside pool as it closes at 6 and opens at 10. The fitness room is a large closet.

SPA!!!! and Shuttle

NO hot tub or pool to be seen at the hotel, website misleading, there is a public spa and pool at a different location with additional charges and in our case booked out our ONLY amenity was the bar.. disappointing. The room 508 layout was odd. I tripped on the step going into the room. Window didn’t open, it was taped shut with duct tape. Fitness center was hard to find. The only reason to stay here is if you are a guest at the spa and need a place to sleep not much to offer. Breakfast was fantastic but it wasn’t complementary. The bar staff was very friendly, but that’s really all I can say.

The only elevator in the hotel was not operating and many other items were broken or not operating

Loved the historical charm of the hotel and the complimentary shuttle was a bonus.

You could see clearly that the Gideon must have been a wonderful property in its prime. Unfortunately the rooms were stale, the bathrooms were worn and not very clean, the place needs a facelift. Staff was courteous.

I like the location and the hotel but service not so good. Bed was made in a half assed way and bathroom was not cleaned. I called desk around noon to let them know and they assured me it would be taken care of. When i returned at 7 nothing was done.

AVOID We’ve been going to the Gideon Putnam happily for a decade and this last visit was a sad portrait of the state of this place. Poor, shockingly indifferent staff if you can find them. Room was infested with bugs, and management barely seemed to care or respond to it in a professional manner. The park is lovely, the grounds worth visiting, do NOT book at the hotel- there’s dozens of options in the area I’d encourage you to find. We basically fled the place early. Terrible and disappointing in the extreme.

The house keeping staff needs to be retrained, as does at least one person at the front desk. My wife and I arrived a short while after 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 7, 2025. We were assigned a King Deluxe room on the 2nd floor. The bathroom wall along the tub was replete with mold. We complained about the mold and we were given a King Deluxe room on the 2nd floor. That room had a similar problem, although less mold. When I complained about it and asked for a room that did not have a mold problem, I was told by a female (short brown-black hair) at the front desk that there were no more rooms available & that it was an old hotel so things like that should be expected. She also said that she has first seen the room and it wasn't so bad - that she is allergic to mold and would have had a reaction if it was a real problem. She said she had no reaction. I stated that regardless of whether the hotel is old or not, it should not have a mold issue, that it was a real problem, and that if she would get me some Clorox and a scrub brush, I would take care of the problem. I was told that a maintenance person would be sent to the room to take care of the issue. The maintenance person arrived about 1/2 hour later and remedied the problem with bleach, as I requested. The problem was bad enough that it took him 1/2 hour to scrub away the mold. I told the same female at the front desk about this. There was no apology and nothing offered for the inconvenience. Very diasappointing!

Check-in was pretty quick and easy, but the room we got keys to was dirty, with an old room service tray, so we got a different room right away, was an easy swap. The room was comfy, bed was nice. The only problem was that the next morning, I found a used insulin needle in our room by where I’d left my shoes! I turned that in to the front desk in a plastic bag. Yuck. This place is way too expensive to be so dirty.

Great location. Just a few minutes to the downtown area. The hotel also offered a shuttle which was very convenient. Rooms were decent. The bathroom was quite small and in need of a facelift. The vent over the shower was VERY dirty, with large cobwebs & dust bunnies. Staff at the front desk answered the phones and attended to the callers when numerous guests were waiting to check in / check out. Additional staff should assist with managing the phones so the front end employees can assist waiting guests.

Clean room, felt safe, convient

Hair in sink,water stains on ceiling in bathroom,tub doesn't drain properly, molding under heat pulled away from wall. A terrible shame a beautiful historic hotel is not kept up. A $30 resort fee? No breakfast offered. Unless your looking to play golf,don't bother!

No shower curtain, ants in bathroom but this year service was great in bar- had to use stairs as elevator was being repaired - use of freight elevator required but needed staff to operate ? Staff was not there first couple of times to operate it. Love the hotel needs more attentive staff to reflect graceful environment

Room #326 was small and as close to the elevator as you can get. Loud operation all night long. The room's bathroom needs updating. Crusty hardware, really low mount on the shower head, and no ventilation.

It’s just okay. The Gideon is showing her age. It is convenient and the shuttle down town makes your stay much easier. Room was outdated and somewhat small.

A shambling relic of a hotel, outdated, uncomfortable and walls that are paper thin. I heard every word from the room next door as if they were in the same room. Restaurant was mediocre. It’s only redeeming quality is the setting in the Saratoga National Park. Beautiful grounds, beautiful walking paths, gorgeous golf courses. Stay elsewhere and drive to the park.

Nice hotel with beautiful grounds. Room was small but comfortable … however there is only 1 elevator and you must wait about 10 minutes for it to come. The elevator makes so much NOISE that you can hear it clearly in the room going up and down all day and night. If you are a light sleeper it will keep you awake!!! Even at the far end of the hallway the elevator can be heard. Not a big issue but ask for a room as far away from the elevator as possible. We will return as the amenities and ground out weigh this.

Everything was fine except the fifth floor room is oddly configured. You lose one entire sign of the bed to walk around and you can hit your head by setting up

This hotel was the perfect choice for attending a conference in the Saratoga Springs Spa Park. I could easily walk to all events. All staff were friendly and helpful.The particular first floor room had a horrible partial view of the HVAC units, but I didn't really care as I was there for business, not a honeymoon or romantic weekend. The room was so nice, spacious, and comfortable. Best of all really nice sheets & responsive air conditioner temperature controls!

We were in a room that had a door to another room. We could hear clearly the conversation of the people in the next room including all their cuss words And when we went to the front desk they said there was nothing they could do.

This hotel needs some serious capital spending upgrading, looks like you could film a movie set in the 60’s without using any props to make it look like it was from that decade.

Overpriced tiny room with noisy air conditioning and 1 chair. Barely room for the bed.

Everything above was wonderful except for a BIG thing!! When we looked out of our bedroom window, ( room 212) the view was a dirty roof top !! That was not a pleasant sight! considering the cost of the room for one night was over $400!!!!!!!!!! Please respond.

We arrived early and the woman behind the desk was not friendly. We asked if room was ready she said no. We asked when and she said no. Ok when? Reply was check in is at 4. I said i know and she did not offer to hold bags or should have said she would call us when room was ready. When we came back to check in another person checked us in and was much nicer. The original woman was unfriendly and curt.

We booked two rooms with a King bed, one for us and the other for another couple we were traveling with. Our room was fine, our friends were given a room with a significantly smaller bed, they believe it was a double bed (room 513). When they saw our receipt showing we booked (and were charged for) 2 King bed rooms they asked for a room rate in line with their downsized bed. They were treated very poorly and basically called liars. Sadly because of this experience they will never return to this hotel. The old business adage holds true here, it's easier to keep an existing customer than to win over a new one, the hotel could have made this right and kept a customer. Aside from this issue the staff was very friendly and courteous everywhere.

Our room was not ready at check in time. check in was 4:00 our room was ready @ 4:30 We had plans for friends to pick us up at 5:00 so we were rushed to take showers and get dressed. Other than that everything was good.

The shuttle driver Pete was terrible and dangerous.. The night manager was dismissive..Had to wait an hour for a hamburger in the restaurant… No dry cleaning service.. No Racing forms..

Nice hotel that we’ve been to several times We had to wait until after 5PM to access our room but when we asked for a 15 minute check out extension, we were told no. We had dinner one night at the hotel and waited an hour after our order was placed. Gideon Putnam charges. $30/day amenities fee for the pool and the shuttle. We used neither but still required paying. The elevator was out of order except for a few hours of our stay. We were on the upper floor and had to wait for a staff member to bring us up and down in the service elevator.

Place was great everyone was very pleasant. Loved the shuttle to town all the drivers were very helpful and friendly!

The hotel is in a State Park. Grounds and golf course are beautiful and well kept. Hotel staff is excellent and very helpful. Shuttle to town and track, just a few minutes away. Rooms are older but very clean and fully functionable. Overall a good stay.

If you like Old World Charm, this is the place. If you are looking for modern and trendy it’s not. The location and the grounds are wonderful! I try to visit every summer and always come home refreshed and relaxed.

A step back in history with the modern amenities. Walking distance to SPAC and a shuttle to downtown Saratoga restaurants.

Old world charm located within a very interesting park and town.

Old hotel. Very nice though. Hotel was costly for a weekend but was comparable with other hotels in that area for the same weekend. Traveling to Saratoga Springs during horse race season is pricey. Best perk for this hotel is that if you are seeing a show at SPAC, you can tailgate on the grounds and walk a few hundred feet to show. Its location is what gives it value.

So perfect if you are going to concert at spac!

This is our third time staying at the Gideon Putnam hotel in Saratoga. We love the classic charm and jazz music in the lobby. Service was very good, room comfortable and clean. We will definitely stay here again. The free trolley rides to downtown are a bonus.

Beautiful property and the hotel is lively. Shuttle transportation is wonderful. Just st wish they would improve on the restaurant. Not terrible in a pinch but could use improvement

Considering what a beautiful property and otherwise perfect experience at the Gideon Putnam Resort and Spa, a new chef would be a deal changer! The cod fish we ordered was still cold inside and the food overall was terrible. And despite the breathtaking property, the hall leading to Victoria pool and bathroom were unkept and dirty. We will be back though!!!!

Great location, lousy hotel. Really wanted to love this place with its vintage architecture and amazing location. But it’s average at best. Staff didn’t appear happy. Could hear the neighboring rooms like they were in the same room. But most importantly the bar was closed after the SPAC concert we went to see. Poor business decision

Loved the history & the charm of the Gideon hotel. It felt like we went back in time. The grounds are amazing. & the Roosevelt spa & surrounding building are historic. We truly fell in love with all of it!!! Dinner at Putnam’s located inside hotel was amazing. Great food. Great staff. Ate there twice. We were located on the third floor in an executive suite & it was fully renovated. It had a sitting room & 1 bedroom. Not sure what the Gideon pumps into the main lobby. But the scent is truly amazing. All of the staff was so friendly & helpful. Shout out to Eric at the front desk since his name is the one I remember. But everyone went above & was always smiling. The place is just stunning & lovely. Perfect weekend getaway. But could stay longer. We truly can’t wait to visit again. Fall was definitely the perfect time. We also visited the spa & my massage was fantastic. I had Jodi. I would absolutely ask for her again.

The Gideon Putnam is a lovely hotel in close proximity to the Roosevelt Baths and Spas. As per usual, the room and staff were excellent. The dining options, however, are another thing altogether. I had hoped in the year between trips to GP, the restaurant would be better but unfortunately, it is still sending out inedible dishes. It’s a shame because the menu looks appetizing and there are no other options nearly as convenient, but buyer beware, it is horrible. It’s hard to screw up breakfast, but the cook managed to do that. My friend ordered an omelet with side of potatoes. The potatoes were under cooked and crunchy and the omelet was over cooked and rubbery. I ordered the oatmeal, which seemed impossible to get wrong, yet the candied pepitas on top were curried, not candied, making for an unwelcome surprise. I love curry, but definitely not in my oatmeal. What will it take for the Gideon Putnam to hire a chef that cares about food? When I complained to the wait staff and the front desk, they just shook their heads as though they’ve heard it before without offering to make it right. This is the second year in a row that I made a complaint about the food and was not offered a refund or some reduction in the dining bill.
