The Churchill Hotel

Stayed here before and was really nice . This time we found it quite noisy been woke up two to three times during the night with drunken guests in the early hours . We also found paying £18 for car parking quite expensive for one night . Poor lunch time menu no sandwich s if you just wanted a lite lunch instead of pizza and burger. Great location though and not badly priced for drinks . Nice and clean

Large room. Easy walk from the train station. Short walk to the town center. Hotel has a lovely outdoor garden area to relax with an evening drink. Would definitely recommend this hotel.

Fantastic stay for a long weekend. Very welcoming staff on arrival and shown to our room. We made a specific room request which was available for us, so that was great. Good beer garden out front which was a nice surprise. Hotel is located within a short walk to the centre of everything. Also plenty of parking at the hotel. Had breakfast a couple of times and the food was very nice. Would recommend this hotel.

Fantastic friendly service, characterful property and a pleasant change from a chain hotel. Not right in the centre but only a very safe 6-8min walk from Minster, shops, restaurants etc… Breakfast was outstanding and good value at £16 for juice, coffee, pastry, yogurt and fruit and Eggs Benedict. Full English a bit more, lighter options from £11. Quite a lot of parking outside at £15 a night (good for York) but it’s very tight & I’d advise contacting them to reserve a place. I got the last one right at the back and it was a real squeeze. Only negative for me was my twin room (124) had a skylight but no pole to close the blind. Hence my room was flooded with light from 5am. Reception were apologetic when I mentioned it.

Hotel was amazing loads of history only disappointing thing was changing patrons to use dining pods.

Lovely two night stay. Warm friendly welcome, excellent check in and check out. Comfortable warm room, modern bathroom with fluffy white towels. We had evening meal in the restaurant. Really tasty, good value with excellent selection of wines.

Really friendly staff on checkin, great advice on what to see and do. Hotel is only about a 5 minute walk to the Minster. Beautiful veer garden where you can also get freshly made pizza.

stayed in the family room , clemintine ,it had a double bed and 2 singles room was very small and dark with a view of a brick wall with a murel of york on it only one window opens and not enough for any air to come in ,the room was very hot even with no heating on, water pressure for the bath was terrible took 30 minutes to fill the bath for my son the water came out so slow ,shower was fine however. There was a loud annoying buzzing sound coming from the wall next too door by 10:30 we got sick of hearing it and it was keeping our son awake .who has autisim and is not the best sleeper to start with,so we rang reception and they said it was the fans from the kitchen that must of been left on,they did go and turn them off but they didnt stop with that annoying noise till 10:45 we had 2 nights booked but cause of no fault to the hotel i fell ill and we left after just one night as i couldnt face another baking hot night ,they did offer us another room but said that may still be a hot room too,so i just wanted to leave and get home to my own bed ,i do understand i couldnt get a refund for leaving early we did ask if we could get a refund for carparking which we got told they would have to ask the manager but heard nothing back about this on a plus location is great ,just off a19 so easy to find and only a 5 min walk to the city walls , sainsburys local just a few blocks down,and the food was lovely ,had a amazing pizza and my fussy eater son demolished the lot.

The Churchill is a lovely looking building with a great garden out front where you can enjoy a drink and freshly made Pizzas. The staff are fantastic, the rooms comfortable and the cooked breakfast are as good as you can get anywhere. Its just a 5 minute walk into town and there is ample parking at the hotel. Our favourite for York.

Clean, beautiful hotel and excellent for a short stay... Had shelves but no wardrobe but only stayed 2 nights so not an issue. Nicely decorated and the staff couldn't have been friendlier or more welcoming. They really went above and beyond and are definitely a credit to the hotel. Would definitely stay again as was convenient for the city centre, just on the outskirts.

We stayed for 2 nights in one of the superior doubles (bunker room) and it was lovely. There aren’t any windows but we didn’t mind this so much as have stayed in inside cabins on a cruise but not suited to all, was fine for a couple of nights. Was very clean and unique and the shower was incredible. Staff at reception were friendly. You have to request if you want the room freshened up rather than having maid service daily but was ok for us. Amazing location, straight 10 minute walk down the street to the minster and an extra 5 minutes to the shambles. Plenty of pubs and cafes and shops near. Would stay again and was great value for money.

We stayed ina small double which is what it stated but we were hardly in our room so it didnt matter. Could not fault the friendliness of the staff and very helpful. Cleanliness was impeccable

We were in a basement room which was lovely and dark at night. The bathroom was compact but very functional and clean. The hotel was well decorated and had everything that we needed. It was easy to park in the car park the fee was £15 per night. It was a 5 min walk into the city centre, a lovely walk too. Would highly recommend and will be back!

The room was lovely - it looked newly decorated and was very clean, with comfortable beds. Will happily stay there again when back in York.

Loved this place, it's perfect for a short break near York Center. Reasons to stay: 1. Staff, so friendly, welcoming and helpful. 2. Location, it's perfect, quiet but only 5 minutes to the Minster and town 3. Hotel building and gardens are spotless 4. Good price for the quality of the stay 5. Food, we only had snacks and drinks in the garden but easy to order, quick to arrive and decent pricing. Small negatives: 1. Daughter found a massive toenail clipping on the chair in our bedroom, freaked her out a bit so I just binned it. These things happen but maybe a final scan from the cleaners would be good. Table was dusty too but it's summer and window was open so no big issue 2. The sofa bed was very uncomfortable & the pillows were marked and flat. Bed pillows were lovely so maybe offer them for the sofa too. Again, no big deal as we only stayed a night but something to consider for longer stays. Any, positives far outweigh the tiny negatives, lovely hotel, lovely staff and fully recommended.

Misrepresentation. Superior Room booking...we hoped for a smart room with a view but it was a basement dungeon. Everything is short changed, breakfast, etc. Parking was £18 per night we thought included, rip off is in the small print. Bit scruffy, room full of dust and crumbs. Staff were very friendly but untrained. Overpriced at £175/ night it was worth a £75 at best. We want a part refund/

Booked the best room in the hotel as a treat. The bridal suit is very large with nice decor. Unfortunately, it’s location lets it down. Being at the very front of the hotel it gets a lot of road noise. As the only room in the main stairwell, it also is subject to a lot of noise and echo from the dining tables that are directly below. On two occasions loud vacuuming and banging could be heard at 0130. Complained after the second time and it didn’t happen on the third night. Bar staff should realise that throwing bottles in the waste and shouting past 1100 can disturb guests. Dining tables should not be positioned at the bottom of the stairwell under the hotel’s best room

Really excellent staff, convenient location, nice enough rooms and spotlessly clean, but unfortunately the sound isolation between our room and either side was really bad, so not ideal if you’re sensitive to that.

We stayed for one night in the Admiralty Suite, wish we had booked for longer. Our room was comfortable, clean and stylish. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The hotel is in a good location and an easy walk into the main area of York.

Lovely bar and outside area, but rooms are very small and no AC so it was incredibly hot and difficult to sleep. Friendly staff but room was disappointing for the cost.

Room was way to small & hot no AC had to keep window open all night for air … but noise from train opposite the hotel was not good as was the deliveries to hotel very noisy. Bathroom so small had to have the door open to dry yourself.

Very clean and friendly. However, no air conditioning We had a small room, so was very hot at night. We had to sleep with open window, and unfortunately we could hear the street noise and the train.

Great hotel, we had a basement room that was very noisy, main gripe was the bed only had a double duvet on a king size bed and only just touched edge to edge. Breakfast great and staff very nice, hopefully we will be back so the negatives can be put right!

Lack of storage space in bedroom

Room was a small double and it was small. Bed not very comfortable duvet cover torn in couple of places. There was a constant hum during the night that’s wasn’t conclusive of a good nights sleep.. mirror light in bathroom difficult to turn on and off almost falling apart. Extractor unit very loose. Shower not great covers the floor whin in use.

The property is nicely decorated and clean, with small bar areas and a restaurant. Bar shuts 11pm. The room was small and warm even with no heating on at this time of year so would be too warm for me in the summer as there was no air con only a small fan. Don't know if there are any rooms with air con. Ideal location to walk into the city with York minster approximately 10 minutes away and 3 pubs 5 minutes down the road with cafés and restaurants off the streets near the minster. Didn't eat in the hotel but had a good steak at the Tomahawk steak house in the city centre and a nice cream tea at Bennetts near the minster. Overall a good base but would book a bigger room next time.

Courteous staff

Ian at Reception was accommodating, friendly and helpful as this was our first stay in York. The room was really nice. We had very good service in the bar and in the dinning room. This hotel is a short walk to old York which was wonderful. I highly recommend this hotel.

Staff anazing very helpful, room was lovely,hotel situated just outside city walls so not far from minster. Parking space in hotel grounds which can be a rarity in york. Breakfast was nice, definitely going again

I would commend the front desk staff - especially Ian - for outstanding service. The dining Staff were excellent - particularly young Summer - and a thoroughly wonderful hotel overall

We loved this hotel, lovely rooms, nice bar and restaurant, helpful and friendly staff, lovely garden. Only downside was that our room wasn't serviced and we had to ask for fresh towels, when we mentioned this at reception we were told that we should have requested this but the check-in receptionist omitted to tell us that. For a 4-star hotel you should get fresh towels and a serviced room as standard. But otherwise excellent.

Our stay at the Churchill hotel was perfect. Clean and well presented. Comfortable and cosy. Close to the city and a pleasant walk to the station. The staff were very welcoming, friendly and helpful. A great choice.

The property is ideally located for walking the 5mins into York itself which was fantastic. Room was lovely.

Great hotel within a stroll of the Minster.

Great location, easy stroll to the walls

Unique building with historical past. Front garden area is lovely in summer sunshine (and warm evening) only 5 min walk to York Minster and City Centre but not affected by street noise. Nice breakfast, all staff friendly, only issue was room we were given looked out onto what can only be described as bin/dump and often staff members could be heard talking outside our window. Bathroom was nice and clean, bed ok. Tea and coffee (bags, which i like) and great touch Kitkat biscuits too. If wed been given a better room might have given 5 stars but overall very good. PS car parking is £18 for the day.

Nice mid range hotel near the theatre, museum and minster

Hotel was in a perfect location for visiting york being only 10 minutes walk into town.

We only stayed for one night for my sons graduation We used to walk past the hotel on our way to visit him and admire the garden area with the Iglos all lit up in the winter. Although not quite ready to book as were being decorated for Xmas we were able to dine in one in the evening and it was magical. We really enjoyed the pizzas and also the breakfast in the morning, the dining areas inside are stunning. The staff were so friendly, cosy bar area,rooms lovely and beds comfy, the location is perfect too just a very short pleasant walk and you are in the centre. Cannot recommend highly enough. Our stay there added to an already special and memorable day. Value for money is so good why stay in a souless chain hotel when you can stay here!

Great hotel, the decoration was excellent. The food was of high quality, properly cooked and well presented. The staff were friendly and helpful. The location was ideal for access to York city centre 10 minute walk.I would recommend this hotel to anyone, and we will be staying again in the future.
