Loved the hotel, welcomed by very personable and kind doormen who were so friendly and attentive throughout our whole stay. The room was lovely and very spacious! Pool was busy but still nice! The location was also great, which a short walk over the river into the centre of York and the hotel was a perfect get away from the busy streets after a day walking around. Only negatives would be the foyer and welcome - it was very busy and queues up to the door! There needed to be a more efficient system to show us the additional check in room next door! Also our room backed onto the delivery entry to the hotel so we were woken at 6:45am by lorries and loud noise! This being said we would definitely return and thanks for a lovely stay!

We stayed at The Grand last weekend for 2 nights and absolutely loved it. The location is fantastic, right next to the York wall and only a 5-minute walk into the town centre. The hotel staff were so welcoming, and the doormen in particular were incredibly friendly and couldn’t do enough for us. We parked in the NCP car park just around the corner, which was really convenient. Although the pool was closed for renovation (something we were aware of when booking), our stay was still perfect. The rooms have been beautifully renovated, everything felt super clean and fresh, and the overall atmosphere was lovely. If you fancy any treatments / massages I do recommend pre booking before you arrive as all slots were fully booked when we tried to book on arrival. Popular option! On Friday evening, we had dinner at their restaurant The Rise. We ordered the sharing platter of beef Wellington and lobster, paired with a delicious bottle of red wine, absolutely amazing! There was also live music in the lounge/bar on both Friday and Saturday night, which added to the experience. The only downside was breakfast – at £30 per head it felt quite steep, so instead we ate out in town each morning at a lovely little café called Rise.Brunch, which we really enjoyed. I’ll definitely be staying here again on our next trip to York and can’t wait to check out the new spa and pool facilities once they’re open. :)

An excellent find. Very friendly and efficient staff. We were greeted by smiling doormen and welcoming reception staff. Nothing was too much trouble for any of the staff. Our room was large located on the front of the building and benefited from sun and a beautiful sunset. Discounted Self parking was 2minutes away. (Valet parking is available). Breakfast £25.) was excellent quality with lots of selections available. We will definitely be returning.

Great hotel. Staff all very friendly and helpful. Impressive period building with new additions. Our room looked out onto the road but never noticed any noise at night. We did a one day course in the cookery school which was excellent, would highly recommend. Great location for exploring York. Parking at the station long stay car park is a much cheaper option than the nearer NCP (only £15 for a long weekend). Nice spa and pretty quiet on a Sunday afternoon. Really good breakfast.

Fantastic hotel. From the minute you arrive at the entrance, the staff do everything they can to make you feel special and welcome. The hotel is beautiful and the level of cleanliness is impeccable. We had a beautiful room on the 5th floor with a lovely view. The spa is wonderful too. We will be back!

Doormen to greet and help with luggage, good sized twin room with big, comfy beds, large bathroom with bath and separate shower. Used the one hour complimentary spa which is petite but has pool, steam room and sauna. Sadly there was a notice up not to use the bubble pool that evening for some reason. Still was relaxing and numbers limited by booking to keep it manageable.

We were drawn to this hotel by the great reviews however our room didn’t look like it had been up dated since the 70/80s. It was tired with fraying carpet, a tear in the blinds and marks on the carpet. Very disappointing for the supposedly up graded room we requested. If I could share pictures I would! No desire to return.

Hotel positions itself as 5* however its poor value for money. At £329 per room per night they could have included breakfast and free parking (valet parking option costs £35 which is even more expensive than if you parked at a nearby NCP). Rooms very dusty. Reception not 5* friendly. Restaurant overpriced. Pool you have to book in advance Not staying again.

Great location especially if arriving by train. Rooms are very large with comfortable beds. They are well-appointed but some things are a little worn in places (the carpet mainly). The bathroom is huge with a bathtub/shower combo and separate shower with amazing water pressure. Robes and slippers were provided and nice for walking to the spa. The main issue we had was with the heating in the room which was not working properly. We let the front desk know, and they sent engineering to check while we were out. It was still cold that night and no one followed up with us to see if had improved. This wasn’t great, but the front desk was very apologetic when we checked out. The other minor issue was the cleanliness of the spa. The locker rooms were really dirty at the end of the day when we had reservations. The sauna was also not heated. Otherwise, the pool, spa, and steam room were quite nice

Breakfast is always amazing and lovely lady who seems to work every day shows you to a table . Tea and coffee made to order . The grand is having the spa renovated at present and there’s some disruption . The shower in my room smelt very stale and the room wasn’t ready at 3 pm check in . I love York and I know the Grand will resume normal service for next time .

This is one of the nicest hotels we have ever stayed in. Had a room in a new part of the hotel (260) .. very clean and spacious with a large and comfortable bed. Straightforward aircon/heat management, which warmed the room up well as needed. Excellent breakfast. Could not fault any member of staff ... service was excellent.

As ever the welcome and service and facilities at the Grand didn’t disappoint - unfortunately our room (43) in the modernised wing overlooked delivery part of neighbouring hotel and we were woken at 6 by noisy delivery men (3 lorries in succession) after complaining the hotel dealt with the matter appropriately and relocated us to equivalent room making appropriate compensation for upset and inconvenience. Despite this I would still return as jt remains our hotel of choice in York

The rooms are large, clean and nicely decorated. The staff are very friendly. However, our room was very noisy. We could hear constant noise from the street and hotel corridor, making it difficult to sleep. The taps in our toilet and shower were both broken when we arrived, so we couldn't get a hot shower on the first morning. However, the issue was fixed quickly, when we made staff aware.

Lovely room which was very spacious with high ceilings, nice furnishings (including black out curtains). Staff were very friendly. We loved the marble around the bath and the fittings. Powerful shower which was a bonus. We’ve only just got married and the hotel kindly sent us up a complimentary surprise bottle of Prosecco.

Stayed here a number of years ago. This was a special trip for my 50th. My wife emailed the hotel to let them know about my birthday. On arrival, we went to our suite, in all honesty it was very disappointing. The room was souless, the pictures on the walls, badly working carpet. Like a very large travelogue room.

The Grand York was fabulous. The room was spacious, comfortable, and clean. The concierge service was exceptional, Nigel and Joseph were standouts. Our absolute favorite staff member was Rob, our waiter in the restaurant. He was helpful, friendly, fun, and just had an amazing presence and demeanor. You all need to hang onto him and Nigel. I expected more from a five-star hotel like the Grand. On the day we checked out, I realized I had forgotten my expensive electric toothbrush in the room but decided to wait until the next morning to call, understanding it was a busy time (during Christmas). To my frustration, the staff claimed they couldn’t find it, and I was disappointed that they didn’t call immediately after the room was cleaned to inform me if anything had been left behind. For a luxury establishment, this lack of care and proactive communication is unacceptable. Guests trust hotels to handle such situations professionally, and it’s disappointing that basic standards were not met. Although I really enjoyed other aspects of our stay, this incident completely ruined my experience with the Grand. I hope they take such matters more seriously in the future.

Our stay at The Grand was lovely, we hadn’t been to York for a few years but the standard of the hotel hasn’t changed. For us it is the only place to stay in York with an excellent location for the city and station of arriving by train. The staff are so welcoming and special mention to Wayne at the entrance he is a credit to the hotel, so welcoming to everyone! Our room was gorgeous and very clean and very quiet at night. Overall a lovely stay and we will stay agin next time we are in York!

Amazing property. An excellent location! Five minute walk to the train. And easy walk to city centre. The wall is literally right outside the front door if you’re looking to see the Roman walls staff was amazing the hardest part about this Hotel is the fact that it’s in a historic city That has a lot of road closures for either pedestrians or construction but other than that it’s amazing.

We stayed here for one night. A well located hotel. Offloading area outside entrance and very close proximity parking, both useful. Close proximity to the station. Unexpectedly large room, very clean and comfortable. Excellent service and very friendly staff. The hotel deserves its name The Grand.

I asked to stay in the modern part of the hotel and quiet and it was granted so we appreciate it. We had a nice stay, liked the room and hotel location. We tried some breakfast items which were not very high quality and felt overpriced.

Everyone was so helpful and friendly. Restaurant was excellent. We had breakfast and dinner in the main dining room (did not try the other restaurant with the tasting menu). Stayed with wife and son in connecting rooms. Rooms were well appointed and comfortable.

Everything about this experience was outstanding. The hotel is very close to the train station and the center of the city. The staff, spa, and room were all incredible. The highlight was dinner in the Legacy restaurant which was an experience of a lifetime. Breakfast the next porning wasn’t too shabby either!
