Good location. Accomodation was about a 10min walk into the centre. Our room was at front of the Inn on a main road, at night you could hear some traffic. Parking available which was a bonus. Room was basic, but clean, fine for a short stay. Windows old, but the Inn is old, so expected, but could do with an external clean. Bed was a double, comfortable. Bar area was nice. We paid for breakfast during our stay, it was lovely. Inn was actually bigger than we thought it would be. There was also an external seated garden area, a games room with pool table and darts. All in all had a lovely stay.

Pub located outside the city walls, a few minutes' walk from the city center. Parking available for customers. Very diligent staff. The room wasn't ready because we arrived early, but we were able to get the key right away.

The hotel was good. The rooms had nice furniture and they were clean. The location was spot on for what we needed. Could walk into the city along the river. Bar is a typical old pub with fantastic features. Beer garden was really nice. Think the hotel is going through some updating and it’s needed but would stay again for sure

Great location, pleasant walk into York from the hotel, good breakfast but you need to order it the night before. We spent three nights there, the bar was pleasant for drinks after walking back from York centre.

Great if you like to stay in a place with character, history and friendly staff, the payoff is its decor is a little dated as were the shower facilities. Value for money was goods with free parking, well positioned to walk into the City centre along the river path. We enjoyed our stay.

I think this was our third year here, staying to attend a festival at the Fulford Arms, 5 mins walk away. Its convenient, has parking, is close to everything we need. The only negative is lack of hooks or shelves in the bathroom. We brought a small camping table with us this year. The bathroom is pretty big, a shelving unit and hooks would be easy to add...

The cleanliness of this establishment was absolutely disgusting, dust all over the four poster bed frame, the bathroom blind was absolutely filthy and there were used earplugs and a plaster underneath the bedside table. The furniture was covered in stains and we were unable to use the shower properly as it was very loosely attached to the wall. Also upon arriving we were greeted by a young lad who was basically running the place alone and wasn't very professional or at all concerned with making sure we were happy. The only positive thing I could say about this establishment is, the location isn't bad. If you want a clean and comfortable stay in York, avoid this place!!

Great weekend stay at The Lighthorseman, spotlessly clean room and bathroom, landlord and staff most welcoming, huge breakfast! Decent selection of food on menu. Walkable distance to the city centre but there is a bus stop about 5 minutes away and taxis are plentiful. I would definitely recommend.

We enjoyed our stay here. Historic old pub within easy walking distance of the city centre. Spacious room and bathroom. Comfy bed. Clean and tidy. Friendly staff. Great value for money. Would definitely stay again when in the area.

Well worth a stop, parking onsite is a huge benefit in York. The room was very clean and tidy and ensuite was not cramped and very clean.

Overall filthy with old dirty cobwebs, four poster dusty, tired room in need of a total overhaul and redecorating. The only positive was on check out we were offered a 50% refund with no quibbles.

Great value 1 night stay. Check in was quick and easy with the friendly barman. The hotel is a 10minute walk along the river to the city centre. Bed was conformable, had a great nights sleep. Nice shower in the morning. The only reason I can't give full marks is due to the overpowering drainage smell in the bathroom. The bathroom was clean but unfortunately there seems to be an issue with the drains. Other than that, I would recommend this hotel for a great value bed for the night. Can't comment on the food and drink as we ate in the city centre. We would certainly return.

Room was in good condition but unfortunately due to the location of the room, all you hear during the night is people walking up and down the stairs and slamming the heavy doors. Also when someone ran a tap / flushed the toilet, there was a very loud noise of water gushing through pipework. This woke us both up numerous times throughout the night and with the bathroom door only closing properly by a latch on the inside, there was no way to drown this out. Wouldn't stay again unfortunately due to not being able to have more than 3 hours sleep in total.

It's basic accommodation. Very dated throughout, needs a lick of paint and new carpets.. Bathroom was quite good however and very clean. Bedsheets and towels had some stains. If you have a room facing the road, take earplugs or your sleep will be interrupted frequently. Overall for the price I was happy. I just needed a place to put my head for the night. Would not recommend for a long stay however.

Great location and easy to find. Check in was excellent and we were shown to our room. The room was a comfortable size, with a small double bed and on the front. We really didn't notice the road noise even though it was 1 of the main routes into York. The only problem we had was an issue with the tv remote, as there wasn't 1 in the room which we reported straight away. The manager came up had a look round too and she couldn't find it either. She said that she would inform her boss and hopefully it would be sorted the next day. We went out for the day and when we got back there was still no remote control which we reported again and the manager said she would phone her boss again. She came up to the room and said that her boss had told that someone had misplaced the remote and they didn't know where it was and that this had been going on for some time now. Why her boss hasn't sorted this problem is any bodies guess as the remotes are quite cheap to buy. This was the only problem we had from otherwise a great stay. On the Friday night we decided as we were a bit late getting there we ate at the pub and fair do's we had very good meals and the beer was excellent too.

The accommodation has free parking and was convenient to walk into the city. When we were there there was no evening meals available so we had to walk to get a meal. Towels were lovely and clean but really hard and scratchy. Shower was like warm and curtains are damaged so don’t close properly

Really enjoyed this hotel as a base for visiting York, rooms are above a bar but no problem with noise, all a little dated but clean with a comfy bed 10 min walk along the river to York centre, would use again if visiting York.

Staying here will be "rough sledding" in the hot summer months. No fans in the rooms, sluggish housekeeping, and old spring mattresses. The plus side is location, neighborhood, a relatively quiet bar for getting work done, and privacy (from little housekeeping). Maps are deceiving. This hotel is *not* an accessible walk to the university.

Lovely 3 night stay, we had double room with en suit which was a good size room, room was clean and comfortable and we slept well the bathroom was a little tired looking and could do with a freshen up We only ate breakfast one morning which was nice cooked breakfast and cereal and fruit on offer Plenty of parking spaces which are free Perfect location only 10/15min walk along the river into the city, if you walk along the main road there’s several bars and restaurants along rout we found a lovely Chinese restaurant Shi Shang great value and big portions Overall a lovely trip with so much to do

Very adequate for a night or two's stay in York. Good size room with connecting bathroom.. All the facilities you need. Close to the riverwalk into York, which takes around 20 minutes to city and 30 to train station. Everything works well including hot shower. Above pub's snooker room, but I didn't find noisy. Nor road noise. Bed comfortable. Simple but well-served breakfast. No fuss check-in. Very good value.

The cons: open until 3 pm, some weird noises from the walls, thin walls and you can hear your neighbors, the teapot was dirty. The Ibar it’s open until 11. but at the end it’s a really nice place to stay.

Room was very clean and the employees were nice. Breakfast and food served in the pub was average. It's a manageable walk to the centre. It was a little loud and cramped, but this was to be expected booking a small room in a pub. The bathroom could use an update, also, to be expected in an older building. I knocked off points because we said we didn't want housekeeping, but they entered our room anyway. This is a boundary that should be respected.

This hotel was great, the host dan was very friendly and accomodating, we were shown our room and given a booklet on thing's to do locally which was nice, the room was clean and all staff were lovley, breakfast was amazing aswell. It was close enough to walk into york aswell which was great

Once again (here 3years ago) we had an excellent stay. the Owner and his staff were excellent. Room very comfy and this time the added bonus of able to enjoy meals and fine wines and beer. The Pub/Hotel so convenient to walk into York centre.
Once again (here 3years ago) we had an excellent stay. the Owner and his staff were excellent. Room very comfy and this time the added bonus of able to enjoy meals and fine wines and beer. The Pub/Hotel so convenient to walk into York centre.

Staff were very helpful friendly and efficient. Very clean room, comfortable bed. Close to the main attractions, the shambles, York Minster, York Dungeon etc. Plenty of restaurants and bars close by. All in all, a great place to stay.

Manager was rude and insulting Room was fifthy, smelt foul, small, door lock broken, left feeling unsafe and shocked Pub is dirty, outdated with dirty tacky carpets. Very over priced Avoid A Positive point was the young male on reception, Finn who was helpful and a polite youngman

We have stayed at The Lighthorseman numerous times and always had a pleasant stay. The manager is very friendly and obliging and its an easy walk into the city centre. Very good value. See you next time.

The hotel was good. The rooms had nice furniture and they were clean. The location was spot on for what we needed. Could walk into the city along the river. Bar is a typical old pub with fantastic features. Beer garden was really nice. Think the hotel is going through some updating and it’s needed but would stay again for sure

Great weekend stay at The Lighthorseman, spotlessly clean room and bathroom, landlord and staff most welcoming, huge breakfast! Decent selection of food on menu. Walkable distance to the city centre but there is a bus stop about 5 minutes away and taxis are plentiful. I would definitely recommend.

Great location, pleasant walk into York from the hotel, good breakfast but you need to order it the night before. We spent three nights there, the bar was pleasant for drinks after walking back from York centre.

The room is relatively small, we spent around 120 pounds to book a room about 13 square meters, so the value for money is average. But the staff are very friendly. Breakfast is optional, 12.5 pounds per person, and the freshly made English breakfast is fantastic. Overall, I would give it 4.2 Stars!
