I booked this hotel a while ago and I then read the reviews and there were some which made me think about cancelling. However, I am glad I didn't. Nice, hotel and great customer service. Swimming pool, sauna and steam room available to use from 6am to 11pm which was great. The breakfast was good and being vegetarians the chef cooked vegan sausages for us. Location not too far from York city centre, we walked it there and caught a taxi back to the hotel and it cost £8.40 which was resonable.

Dear Marriott Delta Hotels Team, I’m writing to express our disappointment following our recent stay. Several key facilities were not working or as advertised during our visit. The hot tub was out of order, the steam room was cold in the morning, and there was no fridge in our room. None of this was communicated to us beforehand. We specifically chose your hotel because of the advertised hot tub and steam room, which play an important role in helping my wife manage her arthritis. We also required a fridge to safely store her medication, so this caused additional inconvenience. We would appreciate a response explaining why these facilities were unavailable and how you intend to address this issue. Had a great stay i left my phone lead at home and reception provided me with one to use.Facility's at the spa were great.Staff at breakfast were very welcoming and breakfast choice was was good woukd definitely recommend to friends and family and will be returning when next back in York

We were disappointed with the extra charge for parking at the hotel. Felt a bit exploited as we probably would have stayed elsewhere if we'd known about it before booking. The hotel itself was very nice, breakfast was very good too.

Nice hotel situated right behind the race track and only a 3-minute drive or 20 min walk into York centre. Food was good in the restaurant and for breakfast. Only negatives I would say are that the pool is absolutely tiny. You can’t actually swim in it and if there’s 3 people it’s already overcrowded. The pool/gym changing rooms need a bit of tlc and ideally a refurb: lockers broken, shower door locks broken and hooks loose on the walls. The gym is small but has everything you would need. Overall, good stay and would definitely stay there again.

It was a pretty good stay overall and the spa area was pretty good. The only issue we had was the size of the lift. When we were putting the luggage trolley in the lift, only one person could squeeze ( and I do mean literally squeeze themselves) inside the lift to go with the luggage, it was far to small. The room and rest of the stay was lovely.

If you are taking children read this review. First off the staff are very friendly and welcoming. The family room comprised of two double beds was spacious, it was however very warm and as is typical with hotels the window only opens a few microns so not much fresh air makes its way into the room. There are confusing and hidden policies that make it not family friendly. On the Marriott website it doesn’t mention any restrictions for children using facilities, on the hotels.com website it says under 16s need to be supervised when in the pool area by an adult. In reality there is a total ban on children using anything other than the swimming pool. They can’t go in the hot tub which is an integral part of the swimming pool nor the steam room or sauna. There are abusive “members” who will shout at your kids and make them afraid to use the swimming facilities. The staff can’t show you any official evidence of the policies existence they are enforcing apart from some laminated A4 paper they have mocked up. They did say this policy has been in place for several years so you would think the website would have been updated by now. All in all I can’t recommend the hotel to families and feel like I was miss-sold what we would be able to do on our mini break.

Bar, Restaurant and Breakfast options were good, lovely terrace garden, check-in was brief but efficent. Hotel downhill from there - rooms quite dated, albeit clean, bed good. Swimming pool very old, tiles falling off or removed, quite dirty and locals use prioritised over hotel guests - pool very small anyway and had half of it rented out to baby/toddler/childrens swim sessions - not what you want on a relaxing break!!

The lift was not working at the time of our stay. We had to ask for the sheets to be changed as there was old blood on the sheets. Other than that the hotel was a little tired but ok

The pool had a lot of green slime around the bottom of the pool, the showers in the pool didn’t work. It was cold in the pool area, no cold water to hand once you came out of the sauna. Limited food selection and it was expensive for what you had and it was not of great quality. Breakfast again very expensive and limited. The picture of the pool is very deceptive as it’s very small. Hotel room was very good and spacious and nice comfortable bed

Some parts of the hotel have had a face lift and look bery nice but other parts look patched up. For example showers with ruff sealant in, that are mouldy next to a brand new shower screen. Why not fix both at the same time? The water drained slow in the sink and the bath and the kettle looked like it had mould in it and a damaged strainer in the spout. It’s an expensive stay without the previous luxury feel the hotel once had. Cheap and shoddy fixes have ruined it for me. Would probably stay elsewhere next time. The leisure staff were not particularly welcoming either like it an inconvenience to have to let me in. The steam rooms didn’t feel clean and mouldy parts clearly not well maintained.

Awful. Had to change rooms on arrival as the room we were given looked like it hadn’t been cleaned since the last guest. We Booked two nights and left after the first night because none of us had slept. Rooms were not clean enough. Noise from rooms above could hear everything going on up there and every time they used the bathroom noisy pipes. Bedding was dirty. Pubic hair everywhere in the bathroom and within the bedding when we pulled the quilt back to get in bed after a long day of travelling we were greeted by pubic hair and stains. Disgusting. Room dusty coughing all night it was so dusty. Beds weren’t comfy too soft and pillows and bedding too thin. Literally not one of us slept. Bathroom old and tired and so was the pool area which was so busy and small. Only thing that we can say positive was the breakfast was good.

our room as excellent, we booked a balcony room with the race course view. The bathroom was fab both a bath and a walk in shower. The towels are not so good to small and nowhere to dry them no warm towel rail. We had a meal in the evening at the restaurant which was very nice my partner had fish and chips generous portion, i had prawn linguine very nice. The staff were all lovely all polite and friendly. Breakfast was excellent, great choice and very hot food makes a change for a buffet breakfast. lovely grounds all well maintain. we didn't use the spa as we want to go into York, we caught the bus into York 10mins and great value £1.30 each.

It was an ok property not the 4 star hotel that we expected. The amenities were not great, the beds were hard and the hotel is in need of refurbishment. The breakfast was good and the staff were friendly. The room heating was not working and we had to use an oil radiator. Overall, not worth the price we paid.

Lovely hotel in a great location for York racecourse and a short taxi ride into the city centre (or 30 min walk). Rooms are very well appointed although the bathroom could be upgraded with dual flush toilet etc. Bed was very comfortable and noise was at a minimum. Staff are helpful and friendly. We like that the pool was open till 11pm

I've stayed at the MArriot in YOrk for many years now - in late January and late July. This year, I was severely disappointed to find that my room was boiling hot all evening - the hotel does not have any air con; I asked for a big fan, and got one quite quickly, but it was quite inefficient - had a very sweaty night, as did my daughter on the sofa bed. I especially asked for a room with 2 beds. We got another fan for the second night, which was a bit more efficient, but again an unsatisfactory night's sleep - too hot. The windows are security locked, and only open about 2 inches. Plus our bathroom had no windows at all, so even more stuffy !! Will ahve to re-think where we stay next time.

We stayed at the Marriott in York for the first time on Saturday 29th March. The room we stayed in was 118. This was described as a deluxe room but it was outdated and not deluxe. We were unable to work the heating/air conditioning with the screen not working. On the screen it said 30.5 degrees and we couldn’t get the room any cooler. We both were unable to have a good night sleep and were left very tired and unrested in the morning. This holiday was for a birthday occasion and the stay was underwhelming. I have stayed in several Marriott’s across the country and this did not live up to the standard I am used to. With the heat in the room we only had about an hour or twos sleep. Upon checking out, I wanted to explain to the women on the desk about our stay and how we had a really poor nights stay but my explanation was brushed over by saying ‘you are all checked out now’. If we knew that we’d have a really poor night sleep we would have stayed in a budget hotel, but given it was a birthday occasion we thought this would be a treat.

The hotel is very tired and in need of a refurb - we had the upgraded room with a balcony - room was large but bed extremely firm (uncomfortably so) and the pillows were flat and old. Room also boiling hot with no decent a/c. We’ve stayed her several times but won’t be back now

Booked this hotel for a family trip to York. Picked this hotel mainly due to the family swimming pool (which was good for younger kids) Would only advise booking this hotel if you like nursing home temperatures though. We had to phone reception at 01.30am due to it being ridiculously hot in our room and the rooms not having air con and the fans blowing hot even when on the cold setting. None of us could sleep. The night staff did bring us 2 random fans eventually after searching empty rooms which helped but we still had a pretty uncomfortable night. All corridors and dining area were really warm too and this was mid April so I’d hate to see what it would be like in summer. Parking is £7 for 24 hours which seems good for York. Reception staff were friendly. Breakfast was nice.

Only 30min walk from the City Centre. Room was comfortable and clean. Staff were all excellent. Leisure Facilities were good and quiet during our stay. Nice location with well kept gardens to the rear. A broad selection of choices for breakfast. Not so good - evening meals. Just didn’t hit the mark in how meals were presented and some parts were overcooked. Tasty enough, but at the rates you’re paying, we expect a much higher standard.

£7 per night to park for guests already paying upwards of £150 for a room is an embarrassment. Room dated - likely nice in its day, but that was a long time ago. Room far too warm, uncontrollable temp control in room and windows screwed shut with wood screws - making it not only unbearably warm but also dangerous. Some sort of makeshift air conditioning contraption in room which looks like it dated from when hotel was fresh was a sign that hotel knew of room temperature issues. Not good value for money at all which is a shame as the setting is fabulous. Needs serious financial investment to make good again.

We had a long wait at check in and then they didn’t give us any info on using the pool facilities. We then were given a room with a joining door and there was lots of noise from the next room so had to be moved. The new room was thankfully comfortable and clean but in drastic need of a refurbishment. Also when booking this hotel I was happy that that I didn’t see any mention that you had to pay for parking until after the booking was made and a non refundable full payment had been made

Facilities in reception, room and bar areas were excellent apart from tv kept switching itself off. Disappointingly slow service in the hotel restaurant when we had an evening meal. Breakfast was good though. Bed also wasn’t made properly, sheets and pillows in same state as when we left the room earlier in the room, just duvet that been pulled up. For the price paid, left with a feeling of disappointment.

Very friendly welcoming hotel, very clean everywhere and really comfortable beds and lovely bedding. Requested two chairs in our room rather than just the one and a second was brought within minutes. Excellent breakfast, all freshly prepared hadn't been sitting under lamps for ages.

I was exited to be offered an upgrade, unfortunately I could hear the hum of a fan or generator. I spoke to reception and they quickly swapped my room. This is a nice hotel, the staff are friendly and helpful, the bed was very comfortable and the breakfast was good. To be recommended.

Great location just outside York . Caught a bus in and walked back . Very pleasant by the racecourse . Room was excellent . Staff were outstanding - really I mean that . Breakfast excellent too . Pool. Good for kids too . Only down side - dinner - average pub food in my mind and I know Marriot can do better. . That said we would go back but just not take dinner . Well done to the staff !

Perfect hotel if you want to stay close to York but not right in the town centre. The surroundings and local area to the hotel are beautiful with a shop, petrol garage and 2 pubs just over the road. The hotel has everything you’d need and is perfect for small families, couples and businesspeople. The swimming pool was really nice and a good temperature. Everything was to a high standard and all you could want for a few nights away.

Clean room Hotel had the Christmas decorations up which made it feel and look more inviting. Breakfast lovely, lots of choice. Only negative was that we got two steak ciabattas and two small wines which was over £50 and the steak was inedible / chewy.

We had a great stay. I was slightly concerned with a few negative reviews. But I was pleasantly surprised! The room was spacious and clean, it would have been great if we had robes here so we could use for the pool area. The breakfast was great, lots of choice and a lively selection. The chef came out and spoke to us about dietary requirements, he said was so helpful and sweet. All the staff were so friendly and accommodating. Every single one! We had an evening meal here too and that was lovely. I’d definitely come back. The pool was great, a little busy sometimes but it was half term.

Hello We have a wonderful stay at the Merriot hotel . Both me and my husband had a night way without the kids and were very spoilt by how lovely , clean and accommodating staff were at this hotel for us. I am a coeliac so cannot eat wheat and the chef and breakfast was so lovely and understanding that they didnot hesitate to make me another breakfast and it was wonderful . Thank you so much and we would defiantly come again.
